I had a guy come in the shop today, and was looking at my projects.. He then said he had something I was missing.. LOL A 1972 Opel Manta, that is complete and in pretty good shape, but doesnt run (Not that anyone would use the original Powertrain) Anyway, I can get the car delivered to my door for 500 Bucks.. Now, I need this car like a hole in the head, but it does cater to my different category like my Volvo's.
Just wondering if anyone on here has had any experience with these cars, and if they are really worth messing with.. I found a youtube video of a bad ass car running a Volvo Motor.. It is Turbo and SuperCharged, and you can really hear the thing whine.. I have been debating on building a car so I can come play with you guys in the RTTH events, but I want something unique that wont cost a crap load if I tear it up.. LOL I would also like something that could be a contender, at a bargain price...
Damn, there is nothing like an AWSOME SUPERCHARGER WHINE....

I always wondered where you come up with these bizarre cars. Now I know that they actually find you. That is a great looking car. The compound charging is cool too.

I am the only fool around here that will buy them... LOL They come to me like they are abandoned dogs, and I dont have the heart to let them rot or get crushed.. If I dont buy this one, it may be taken to the scrap iron yard and crushed.

If I had the garage space, I would snatch up cars at prices like 500 bucks without thinking about it.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! I thought I was going to be unique...
It is almost unbelievable you bring this up now. I just contacted Shawn Mascoll last night about doing a rendering for a 1974 Opel Manta. I have a buddy from Poland who has been a fan of old school rally cars for a long time. We got to talking a couple nights ago about building a car together and after looking at some cars, I fell in love with the Manta (no idea why). I'm having a rendering done and it will be my next project whether I build it with my buddy or do it myself.
I've been looking around at them online and see you can get a car in pretty good shape for $1,000. My thought so far is a supercharged eco-tec, 5 or 6 speed, 17's, and some body mods to give it a modern day rally car feel.
For $500 bucks you can't go wrong. I would jump on it if I was you. Worst part is, I won't be the only one with a PT Manta. DANG!

my neighbour had one when i was a kid, he was like Mr Burns from the simpsons. He sold it to a young guy who fitted it with buik v8 and jag IRS [well it was the 70s]
only about the size of an E30 bmw, but great charger style body.

Last summer, i went to south of France with my brother-in-law to pick up a 72 Manta A for him.
Clean little car, no rust, 1100cc with Weber carb, koni shocks, ATS wheels, we made the 600 miles trip back home without any problems. Here in Europe these cars were very popular in Rally Races back in the days and are still in historic rallies.

My Dad bought one new back in '72. I passed my drivers test in it. That car made it easy. :)

Saw this Opel Manta Luxus at a festival I went to. Hadn't seen one before. I don't know anything about this car, just saw it in the parking lot. Good luck with the projects! Love seeing these different builds!
