Here you go gang. It was a great event and we had a really run time. Major kudos to Dan Weishaar, Doug Renner, Rob McGregor, the One Legged Jihad, and all that attended. It was a good time had by all. Below are all the results.

Cool, thanks for posting those. Golly geez, looking at the results, I did better than I thought considering I only got 3 runs in. My old-school carbureted iron big block with my 300 treadwear tires ain't so bad after all. Best part of my day was when, in the middle of our 2nd run, I heard my wife say, "God, this is so much fun." Having her on board with the whole thing helps big time!

I got to ride with Doug on his 34.4 pass and he absolutely drove the snot out of his car on that run. It was a real blast and it taught me a few things about pushing my car a little harder. I can't wait to see what Doug starts running after he gets his new suspension and new LS motor in place. Great improvement by Matt also. He's really getting good out there now. Of course Steve in Bad Penny and the OLC were laying it down as usual.

I did not know that Kyle Tucker in his '70 Camaro came so close to beating that lightweight Maier Racing Mustang. That's pretty amazing driving right there, by both drivers.

Definitely a great event. Congrats to all the other top finishers! :cheers:

Man I was so jealous watching all you guys from the fence. My unisteer rack won't allow me to make that last left hand turn on the course or I'd join in. 3 point turns don't look so cool out there. Take a wild guess what part is going up for sale this winter? lol Cars looked/sounded great everyone.

Hope you all have had a good time at the first four Goodguys events and three of them had the Goodguys AutoCross. We have fifteen events during the season that have the AutoCross and looking forward to adding others for 2012 and adding some Sunday AutoCrosses to the mix.



Next up is Nashville TN that will have the AutoCross running all three days. Yes Sunday from 9 to noon we will be running the AutoCross and the winners will be challenging the track all three days to figure out the winner.



On another note the Truck class has been won at all three events by one guy!!!! it is time to knock him off and get another truck into the mix...Calling all trucks!!!



The Vendor class has seen three different winners with Bret from Ride Tech, Kyle Tucker from Detroit Speed and Mike Maier from Maier racing. So far two Fords and a Chevy.



After Nashville Goodguys will be doing two AutoCrosses on the same weekend, one in Colorado and one in Pleasanton CA. I will be at the one in Pleasanton and Trent will be in Colorado. Hope to see some of you there.

Chris, wait till you slip in the "lighter" motor you have going on---it was awesome seeing you bust into the 34's on your only the 3rd pass--this was a great event between the Newmans, Matt, Henry, Shawn, Scott, Carl, GW, Dave, Stig, Jon, Rupp, Robert, etc, etc---what a blast. Wish we could do one a month---congrats to you my friend--that was awesome. Thanks again for the use of the room!!

That must be the ford math. I doubt that hes over 260, I could be wrong though. Still more than I have....

If you ask Mike -- he'll tell you 250 HP.... "a mild cammed 302" I think is what he said.

Shows that on the Auto X -- it's about driving skills not HP wars.

It is funny and sad how no one gives Mike any credit for beating everyone with his 280 hp mustang.

In the very next sentence after the one you highlighted I gave both drivers props for both doing a great job of driving. Geez, trying to praise people is a tough gig around here.

It is kind of a back handed compliment when you say the light weight Mustang, like he had an advantage. Why even mention light weight? And Greg is right, he probably does only have about 250 HP. I have driven it. It does not have a lot of power compared to most of the cars out there. Mike has it set up beautifully with his suspension and he drives the hell out of it.

Because HP to weight ratio is important.... it explains how a "relatively" low HP car can be so "quick". But of course... then that discounts the drivers skills because just because it has a high HP/Weight ratio wouldn't mean much with an unskilled driver. Light weight is also a GOOD quality in a "race car" -- so I think he was paying Mike a compliment. It takes some skills to build a car that is properly balanced and is light weight but stiff and strong.

Go run a small SCCA venue and get back to me. Rupp and I ran almost identical times in Autocross at El Toro. I got beat by 4.5 seconds by the fastest miata at my last autocross. I realize he was on A6's but he would have been in the Maier/Tucker time zone on street tread.

I sat out there this weekend and watched Mike in his Mustang really rip around the track and I was really amazed by it. It's a very nimble vehicle and he drives it beautifully. I consider the 'nimbleness' of his car to be a result of weight and suspension. I thought to myself(as others did), it's going to be very difficult for anybody to come close to beating him on a track like that. When I saw the results posted here, I was like, wow, somebody(Tucker) actually did come close. I tried to write a nice post where I complimented some people and I wrote those few sentences you're focusing on because I was amazed that someone actually came close to Mike's blazing times, and I included the 'both drivers' thing to give Mike credit also. I said lightweight, because YES, his car is lightweight and very nimble on a track like that and I didn't think anybody could come close to him and the way he drives it. Maybe I should've used 'nimble' instead of 'lightweight', so it gave credit to his suspension setup also.

Reading your posts where you're hammering me for not properly giving Mike props, I realize now that my assumptions are false about how having a lightweight car is advantageous on a tiny autocross track like Del Mar's, and that HP makes little to no difference on that same type of track. I was thinking of ways to make my car lighter(carbon fiber, aluminum engine, etc) to make my car more nimble and quicker(along with other suspension mods). I guess it's back to the drawing board for me!

Mike did a great job of racing and so did everybody else. :cheers:

I guess it gets a bit frustrating when I hear people say the only reason Mike does well is because his car is a bit lighter than theirs. There is much more to good times other than weight. I am sorry if this was not your intention. You are not the only one to say it, so my comments were more directed to others that say the same thing.
It looks like the entire group of autocrossers are getting better and that is a great thing. Better cars and better driving.

Thanks Greg, The family had a blast this last weekend. The group of people that this sport brings together is BY FAR the best people around. It was great to spend some more time with you, Rodger, Doug, Brett,...... It is pretty awesome that a group that is out to beat each other can be such good friends and genuinely want to help each other go faster even if it means getting beat.

I know i was not the only person out there that commented on the fact that its a tight group of people when the heads of some of the larger company's, ie. Kyle from DSE, Mike from Maier, Brett from Ridetech, all played musical cars and took turns tearing up the course.

The other stand out for me was Jess Gould was out their running the Dart! Even though she was not the fastest it was the most fun to watch!

Skill beats HP every time.... just because a guy has big HP doesn't mean he has to use it. This even works at a drag strip. Sticky tires beat street tread every time... Light and quick beat heavy every time.

Mary Pozzi = beat you every time
Mike Maier = beat you every time
Brian Hobaugh = beat you every time


Steve Rupp - not so much. :rofl:

I think you need to review the El Toro score sheets again. Autocross, you have a strong case.

I saw any track, anytime..... Don't discount their experience and years of tuning and driving the same car. It makes a HUGE difference. I do agree that they are all damn good drivers and I'm certainly not trying to say I'm an equal.

What do you guys think Mike's Mustang really weighs? I woundn't really call the car lightweight, hell, it weighs more than my Honda S2000 does by 150 or so pounds.

In reality it comes down to car set up and ease of driving. Case in point, when Kyle hopped out of the car, he was pretty shocked at how easy the Mustang is to drive at speed.

I keep trying to talk Mike into bring his real race car out and not his wifes car, but he's not having it. Maybe next time we'll put the baby seats in the back seat of the Mustang to give the whiners a ride...

I think the difference here lies somewhere between real autocross/race drivers---Mike, Mary, etc--versus guys like Chris and I who were there for strictly the fun part of it---I know that is what Chris is commenting on--we don't hold ourselves up in the same light as we would Mike, Mary, Kyle Newman, Tuckers, etc. No one was cheering louder for Mike, who is one of the nicest guys out there--when he broke into the 39's than all of us. Don't misinterpet a few thank you's for a slam against Mike---no one who was at the event---I believe I can speak for many---are thinking the way it's been made to sound here. Any of you that have seen Mike in action with the Mustang know it's something you have to see---he is amazing in that car.

I think everybody has to have a bit of competitiveness in them. You can always tell the level of competitiveness by the amount of time and money one spends on tuning and upgrades after an event.

Frankly, I cant wait ti'll I lose my competitive edge. It will save me a ton of money. I think my next investment will be sand, palm trees, and cocktail waitress's :unibrow:

Thanks Kyle, and nice getting to know you better. You are one hell of a driver, and it was fun seeing your different driving style as compared to mine when you took my car for a spin.

Ill make sure I stop calling Craig..Kyle lol.

Good time with all and a great group of people....Doug did beat the S&*t out of that one legged Viagra machine. It sure will be different with 2 legs and an LS3 erection.

Tom from AZ has a bad ass stock looking 67 Camaro. That thing hooks up and thanks for the ride along.

Man Im bummed.... Jon's 72 Nova now is faster and his driving skills are going to push that budget minded machine to faster times than mine. So, I guess back to the drawing board for me. Congrats and good job Jon.

As usual, No Limit is a great group to hang out with, Tina was a great host and kept inviting me to the group lunch back at the camper, but I kept using my lunch time to look around. Maybe next time Rob and Tina. Thanks
