Damn that just gave me goose bumps. I love the TT Gallardos that are all over the TX Mile, but that sound right there makes them sound like little girls.

There were more first gens than Lambos at this TX Mile. It was awesome seeing big red up close and talking to the crew. Best part is hearing it scream past the mile marker at 217!!!

Awesome event.

I wonder what some of the new power specs are. What she weighs, and what trans she's running. Not to mention what rear end ratio is......

I was curious about that, too, so I ran a few numbers in a trans/rpm/gear spreadsheet that I have. Going with a non-OD transmission (like Nascar), 26" diameter tires, and 8k rpm, it would need 2.85 gears to go 217mph.

It sounds identicle to the cup cars Ive seen hauling down the front stretch at daytona

Very cool race car.

I'm glad to see its out of that lame car collection in Laughlin Nv. where I saw it last.(a long time ago) I remember walking around the corner and seeing it sitting there thinking to myself, it CAN'T end like this!

What was the top speed in its original configuration? 222 mph comes to mind.

I totally agree with 110% Why they need to make the coolest car ever like an total idiot??? It has run over 220 mph without the ugly scoop.

When big red ran over 220 it wasn't in one mile. One mile comes fast. Those scoops are usually very aerodynamic and add horsepower because of the air forced in. I don't agree that he looks like an idiot when the hood has an actual function that improves performance for the application of that day. When your doing an event like that you don't sacrifice speed to make someone else happy, you go for it. That is why big red is big red.

Yeah bummer on the scoop, but whatever. It's still bad azz.

And yeah that ain't no pro touring car and doesn't even resemble one. Because it don't have Vintage Air.

Yes and no... Yes because it would be cool to see what she would run with a high boost tune... and no because i don't want to take the time to put more cage in it, send it out to get the high octane tune.(down time)

I would be curious no doubt to see what it would run though. I guess i could always sit back and bench race the mile with a calculator... :unibrow:

Very cool race car.

I was going to say...it sounds just like a Nascar at full song.

Rear tires sure make a ka-chunk when he puts it into gear....serious set-up for sure. :hail:

Or we just run our own little DC mile..... where?

Oh and the hood scoop, as long as it's serving a real purpose, I'm ok with it, it's a bit fugly for sure.

I'll just throw this out there, and its from memory so it may not be exact, but should be pretty close.
The 222mph was top speed on a long straight during silver state race. Not a 1 mile event.
A few years ago big red did a 0 to 200mph to 0 competition wich was held at altitude and he hit around 178mph (it had a max of 1 mile) and then stopped in something crazy like 11 seconds.
I saw one video of him hitting around 204ish mph in the mile, I believe not a max effort pass, and a very respectable speed.
I assume to get a little more power and to hit a higher speed, the scoop was added so he would run better then last time because there is no point in running the same number time after time. I'm sure if he road races it will be back to the old hood.
Theres a lot more history in there but I'll leave it at that.
I'm not sure why, but it bothers me to hear the negative comments about such a great car because he put a scoop on it to achieve a higher top speed. No offense to anyone who posted any negative comment, but knowing the history and some thought into why it was used at this event might not see the negativity posted for the world to see.
Polly motor sports car uses a wing, its not a kids cavalier, it has gone 250+ mph and needs it. I've seen negative comments about that as well.
I don't mind the 'I don't like the looks' comments but the 'idiot' comment is in poor taste here I think.
Just my 2 cents.
Ok I feel better now.

He did 217 fastest run at Tx Mile. Headwind was there but not "strong." I think we were seeing 8-12mph cross/headwinds. Car is amazing.

Crew is really awesome as well. I chatted with them a bit and they ended up getting our contact information and sending us some Big Red gear as a "thank you" for the timing crew!

Cool guys for sure, and awesome to see that car going that fast NA in a mile!
