yeah someone got a deal and someone is crying on the other end . Is the rumor true that is just recently sold for $170,000 from stuart , and now the new owner tried to make some money but lost $22,000 plus the 8% ????????

I figured it would only do $110 , guess i was wrong , and alot of others were also !!

I would have liked to see it drive in, but it was already on stage when they came back from commercial break. Probably scared half the bidders standing close by...

Hey, just remember Jody, you always have that other "little" Camaro project...

148? Was that with or without the premium?

I guess either way I was about 20k short with my guess here. About normal for me....lol

Yep and the seller lost about $11k off that.. plus transport. So he cleared around $137k .. I know he paid more for it than that.

The buyer paid around $160k.. about what the seller originally paid for it.

8% is a lot of $$$ when you get into the big buck cars..

Nobodys crying, the seller is happy with that amount. The numbers being thrown about that he paid are not correct, he basically got his investment back minus the 8% commission. Plus he got to enjoy the car for a year.

He did not buy the car for an investment, he bought it because he thought it was cool.

I think it's cool that a well-built pro touring car can bring big bucks when it's a number-matching nothing. And I can build that car for less than it sold for, so technically I could make money building these, at least at that example.

By the way, you didn't answer me on the other site, what can you build the Aluminator for?

LOL, did not build to sell quite this fast. I do have the SEMA offer and the Daytona offer ( both standing offers) in the can, but just not enough yet. I am waiting to see if the recent ink helped any. :unibrow:
If I truely had built to sell, no doubt with the magazine coverage on the stands, it should have been in Scottsdale this weekend, but just not what I was after. Let me get thru Year One experience, Power Tour, Columbus Goodguys, Woodward, etc, this year, then we will see what the market will bear..

It was and still is cool Jody , Relax!!!!

That 170 rumored number has been flying around for a year now . if it was wrong , why would someone not just say " it sold for ???"

Its cool ! Again i dont mean to upset anyone!

Seriously, I am not upset or mad. It's tough typing to convey what I'm trying to say when you can't hear the tone of my voice.

You mentioned that you could build it for less on the other site, and that you didn't understand the value of that car. Then you "appeared" to be happy that the seller lost money. Sorry if I misinterpreted that.

I'm dying to know what you could build the car for, please humor me!:D

I called and talked to Stuart 3 cars before it hit the block. He seemed excited about the sell and I bet he wishes he bought it back at that price. I did not get to see the car sell as I was off looking at other potentials, if you know what I mean. What a sweet car and a sweet deal.

Im not sure you could duplicate that car for double the price it went for.

Even if it could be duplicated for less it doesn't matter.. when you buy a finished car you sometimes pay for the "convinence" of getting instant gratification.

I would think it would be tough to duplicate the car for less than $150k if you had it built, but that's not really the point.

If a hot rod is nothing more than a sum of it's parts, then the hot rod builder didn't do a very good job. In this case, if the buyer is savvy, he knows that the Aluminator is a Detroit Speed and Engineering update. Anyone who thinks the DSE name doesn't carry any clout needs to take a ride down there and tour DSE the shop. Folks are hauling their cars to DSE from all over the country to get the "DSE Touch". SW from Texas. Scott Shafiroff from NY. Some folks are just calling them up and saying: "Hey, go find me a car and do it up. Call me when it's time to pick a color..."

Specs are important. Turn-key convenience is important. But a DSE car brings with it a reputation for quality, performance and reliability. It's no secret that the DSE Touch makes some peoples' nuts burn with envy. I see it all the time--and it cracks me up. But there an easy solution to that annoying burning sensation:
Step up!
To alleviate that envy, all any aspiring builder has to do is:
-Quit your day job. (Your wife quits hers as well)
-Buy a NASCAR Busch Cup caliber shop far away from home.
-Pack up and move your life. (Make some enemies in the process)
-Hire a team of 15 or more skilled craftsmen.
-Invest, design and manufacture a product line.
-Spend $4000 per month PER AD in magazines to market that product line.
-Haul ass to a bunch of major shows each year.
-Build magazine quality cars and round up the exposure.
-Do that a bunch of time over a 10 year period.
-Buy, read and actually understand Small Business Accounting for Dummies.
-Oh, and don't forget: You gotta sell your pride and joy Street Machine of the Year winner to make it all happen.

That's all anyone has to do to. Piece of cake. Do it in your sleep, right? Complete all of the above and then you too can have your customers' nothing special "used" cars go across the block for "too much money". Me? I got worn out just typing this post.

What time (eastern) did it go across the block?? I have it on DVR. My guess was only $8K off...not bad so far. I have seen that car in person on power tour...and its sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet! As the commercial goes.

It was the last car to roll across (on the televised show)

Guess they saved "the best" for last :D

Off topic: Has anyone been doing the fantasy bidding? It is difficult to decide what these cars will go for. The closest I came was 1,000 bucks on the Edsel wagon. I missed the mustang fastback by 30K. 13K off on the Alluminator.

It came on near the last 10 mins of the show.. so if they repeat it just be sure to catch the end :)

Oh, and they really on got half the action since they were in process partly durring the the commercial.

BTW.. I saw a friend of mines HEMI Coronet go on the block. It was a recreation of a factory drag car (red).. beautiful car and I am sure he was happy with the $118k he got (before fees)

In regards to the Aluminator, keep in mind that all the awards and magazine coverage it has gotten plus the rep of DSE added quite a bit to that price. The same exact car (build by an unknown) with zero past exposure might of brought $50k less.

Me and a friend bought a 34 Ford and I went to check out a chassis fabricator about 100 miles from my home. I'll see The Aluminator on the reruns for sure.

I do. It is sitting as high as a Conestoga Wagon as the stock suspension is still in it. I am changing directions slightly on the front sub frame and going the Due route that takes all of my existing suspension parts and I can send my Fikse's back and have them widened to 18 X 10's in the front. I do need to take some with the speedster piece installed with the Roll bars mocked up. Its raining today but I will take some of just the body if the sun is out tomorrow and post them.

Steve, my thoughts exactly on DSE. First class all the way and I've been stating this for a while now, DSE = resale and quality. Parts or build there reputation is second to none, IMO.

The seller, a friend of mine, is happy. He didn't lose or make money, which is good, IMO. The new owner will be happy also. He flew all the way from Canada for the sole purpose of buying this car.

It was nice to be there and watch it go across, and to hear the car again - nothing like the sound of this car. When Charley owned the car he told me nothing he has or had sounds like this car. I agree, it sounds silly but that is what I miss most about this car is pulling up to a red light and listening to that awesome sound, thanks to Jody for putting the parts together for that sound.

Scott, Jody, Jim thanks for the calls and Scott again for the video.

Quite a place and lots of fun. Glad to be home though.

Thanks guys for all the kind words about this car. Steve well said again - you must have access inside my brain,LOL.

My guess was $155K. I hope I am as close or closer on the other two.

Scott, is the contest guesses hammer numbers or after commission?
