We did this last year---was a great trip. We had somewhere between 7 to 9 cars during the drive up the coast from So Cal to Nor Cal---one of the best road trips so far. We take 405 to 10 and end up on Hwy 1 (Pacific Coast Hwy) for approx an hour, then jump to 101 around Oxnard--head to Cris's shop (JCG) and then back on the 101 through Pismo and up to Pleasanton. It's a great drive there--then we ran the auto X Sat, Sun--then headed back Sun afternoon. I'm up for staying through Sunday and coming back Monday--but will play that by ear. Wanted to get an idea of who would like to make the road trip again this year. You guys from Nor Cal, we will be stopping at Jardines (not sure of spelling) in San Juan Baptista (pretty sure that's where it's located) and hope to meet several of you guys there for dinner (around 5) and then cruise the rest of the way from there. Lot's of you asked this year for an early warning to start making plans, so here it is. If you'd like to join up with us, let me know here in the thread. Here's some pics from last year's trip.

Yeah man. Been looking forward to this. Not sure how far south I will come meet you guys but count me in.
Hey, I thought the good mexican joint people were raving about was closer this way like in Carmel or Salinas or something? Or am I thinking of something else?

Bad Idea ruined me---now I know what a properly setup car feels like and should handle like. I love that car--everyone should have to go for a ride in it. Since the folks are coming, does that mean James is staying to watch the shop?

Doubt Greg would fit in Rodger's car without a few strategically placed phone books on the seat, which might get uncomfortable on a long drive.

Please do bring the AMG Battleship (can I call it the Bismark?) up coast though!

Oh and before I forget, Greg, I'm going to offer you a spot shotgun in my car on the autocross. I bought a little click-counter so you'll have an easier time of keeping track of all the cones I hit.

Well... I'm not going to bring the Bismark down for a hot rod show -- but I just might join you characters in the little red go-kart... IF I'm allowed to go with the "Camaro Crowd".... in a real hot rod? The seat and all the controls have been custom made just to fit my tiny posterior with the steering control hoop clearanced for the belly button "inhale and exhale" stroke. Some "coneheads" actually had me taking off my shoes and socks in order to keep track of their cone count (per run I might add), so any cone counting aids would be a welcome addition!

PS. The reason we don't show the participants the times is so I can play favorites, and nobody but me knows who my favorites are... I also don't want to publicly embarrass (with a large gas powered 10" high, red lettered display) some of the snails that claim to have skills to match the high horsey powered machines they bring.

I'm heading to Portland @ O'dark thirty on June 2nd -- picking up the 32 at S.A.R. and dragging south. Should get into Nor Cal - Chico or Willows or thereabouts that night - then into Pleasanton on the 3rd. Plan to cruise the 32 a little it around town -- then hit the show Saturday AM. It shouldn't be hard to find - it's red... There's only maybe 50 or 60 of them there.

See you guys there!

Anyone want to hook up for dinner plans etc -- PM/Email me for my cell number. Doug and Dave both have it if you see them they'll share... So let's plan something!

So there is a decent group of locals and Socal guys meeting at Jardines Friday night on their way up. (I cannot make that)

I'd propose we should meet for dinner after the show on Saturday somewhere around Pleasanton. I'm sure the Socal guys are staying around the fairgrounds.

GregWeld
05-22-2011, 04:59 PM
Sent you and Mister Panel Gap a couple dumps I found to have dinner at Saturday night -- near the fairgrounds there.

I'm at the Hilton Inn at the Club (whatever that means but who cares) and will be there Thursday afternoon sometime. I think it's real close to the fairgrounds. In years past I've stayed with a buddy in San Ramon - but I'm bring down a buddy so we'll just grab a couple of rooms this go round.

GregWeld
05-23-2011, 07:12 AM
I was just trying to get an idea (or a rough headcount) -- a bunch of rowdy guys for beers and pizza.... or a few guys that just want to eat and BS would be Haps Steak joint. I don't care which one.... but think it's more based on how many guys. Half a dozen is easy for Haps.... 10 or 12 would be more suited to the Gay 90's Pizza shop?

I'm bring down a buddy with me - and given my personalty - I might be a party of two. He has to eat with me or he's got to find a way home. :unibrow:

We also have the owner of the 68 Camaro we did the rear on signed up and coming on sat, i think his wife will be running it? Since we've met before I'm giving your old memory the benefit of the doubt, and I'm going to assume you're talking about the driver at the beginning, not the guy rapping in the car - if you even made it that far through the video (and I hope you didn't). Okay --- While I HATE to do this --- I'm canceling my trip to Pleasanton... the WEATHER is just not worth the effort - and particularly given the car choice... and open wheel roadster - even if the streets are "damp" just flips water EVERYWHERE including the interior. That just ain't happenin' ! Since it's going to be COLD as well... and it's supposed to be NICE here I'd just as soon fetch the poor little POS and cruise it around here.

The $64 question --- should I keep the reservation at HAPS?? Or will many of you also choose to change (coming up from So Cal...) to sit in the rain.

"Goodguys" Autocross-June 4th.
After raining most of the day, it finally cleared up enought to get some Autocross runs in.
Ole "4 Play" HHR-SS [330 H.P.-Pedders-Ect.] got in four good runs, and ran quicker than I would have imagined. Each run, lowered my time almost a second, until best of four runs, was a 32.98 Sec. run. Was quicker than most daily drivers and one Roush autocross prepared Mustang[many mods].
Going back tomorrow morning for some more fun. This is a real hoot!
Mike Maier's new build, 65 Mustang was impressive, with a quick time of 28.6.

It turned out to be nice today. No rain delays and many runs. I think I got about 6 - 7 runs today between 10am and 2 pm. After the Goodguys staff worked all morning to dry the course, they let us run about 10 or so laps to dry it out. After that, a good time had by all.

It turned out to be nice today. No rain delays and many runs. I think I got about 6 - 7 runs today between 10am and 2 pm. After the Goodguys staff worked all morning to dry the course, they let us run about 10 or so laps to dry it out. After that, a good time had by all.

Very cool Brian. You ran the Vette there right? How did ya do?

I did fairly well. I won the Street Machine class with a 27.7xx. After they cut off the official runs, I got a 27.5xx.

Mike Maier ran on Saturday in the wet with his upgraded 66 Mustang and got a 28.3xx. Watch out for this car with his 850 hp Rousch Yates engine. No more 280 hp. He had a problem with a prototype suspension part, so he borrowed his buddy's 68 Mustang with Maier Racing parts and got a 28.1xx to win the Vendor Class.

Rob McGregor won the truck class with his No Limit truck. I believe he was a high 28.

Whoever stayed home, missed some fun for sure. Lots of good fast runs, especially the guy in the 4 door Mercury. He went pretty quick, and no cones.
I got fifteen runs in the two days[4 on sat.-11 on sunday], and the ole HHR-
SS kept getting quicker. Had so much fun, now I'm hooked.
Finally got the ole sled into the high 31 bracket, on 122 c.i. motor.
I can now see why you guys have so much fun. R. "Moon" Mullins
