Ok so once a week, I frequent Jack in the box and order my cheap lunch. 2 regular taco's and one Jumbo jack hamburger. The jumbo Jack is 1.39 without cheese and 1.79 with cheese. And the taco's are 2 for 99 cents. But get this each taco has a slices of cheese, standard. So do the taco's only cost 9.5 cents a piece? or Are they selling me the Jumbo Jack for cheap in hopes that I will add the 40 cent cheese.

What's even more funny is I never order cheese for this reason, but 1 out of 3 times I get cheese by accident.

Any insight from those much smarter then me. Back to work I have some cheese to pay for.

My local Wendy's had a sign out on the lack of tomatoes. If you don't specifically ask for a slice, you won't get one. Sounds like someone needs to invent a "processed tomato food product" to go with that mystery cheez.

It's all about the add-on sales. Any smart franchise will insist on employees asking "did you want cheese on that" or "would you like an apple pie with thaaaaaaatttt?" If you get it 1 out of 3 times w/o asking... that just shows how tough it is to hire good people. :_paranoid

One of my biggest peeves is when going Subway, (or any other joint where cheese is standard) they charge for extra cheese but if you opt to not have the cheese, they will not credit you that cheese. Somebody, tell me.. is the cheese worth a dollar or not?

Big question is how they can sell 2 tacos for 99 cents and make a profit. Think about the basic overhead to run any business.... Payroll, insurance, utilities, supplies etc. There has to be a mark up for everything just to break even let alone make a profit. So think about how cheap their supplies must be to mark 2 tacos up to 99 cents and make a profit.

It ain't real meat in those tacos

Loss leader?? get you to come on for those and you'll buy something else.

I hit up jack for 2 tacos, and their fish sandwich, fries and a drink special once or twice a week. I only get charged $3.27. I am a cheap bastard, but some reason I do enjoy those mystery meat tacos.

They want you buying a drink. It costs pennies for the cup, ice, and drink. Plus they gotta get rid of that spoiled meat somehow....:D

They don't care about the cheese.
Did you order a pop? They make the money mostly on pop and a few other high margin items. They don't really make any thing on that other crap you ate.

I wish we had some high margin items like that........ OH TO DREAM.

Oh and if my "BOYEE" Brian was here, this thread would have already made ten pages and Lat-g would be sponsored by Jack in the Box. Because not one of you guys have integrity or money.

I wish guys like Brian hung out here more often..........

Put a vending machine in the shop. It'll generate traffic (ha) ... at the very least you'll make some money back from the guys in the shop and we've determined it's the highest margin item you sell. Win-win. :unibrow:

This morning my cheese was 2.25/lb. A few months ago it was 1.47/lb.

I order 15 cases (48lb case) a week per store. Thats 720 lbs of mozz cheese a week and @ 0.78 cents more per pound. Im spending another $561.60/week just on cheese. $29,203 a year extra out of my pocket. :(

Thats just one store. Times that by 2 since I have 2 stores. Im spending more money on cheese this year then your average person makes per year.

Ahhh its depressing.

Cheese is an exported commodity. Global demand is up and the dollar is weak so it takes more coin to get the melty goodness.
