View Full Version : Cast your vote, win a rendering

Poll is up, results/voters are public, and it closes in 30 days. I just went in and choose one from you guys who posted a list because there can only be 18 choices, sorry. You don't have to post in the thread if you vote, I will be able to see everyone who votes and those names will go into the hat. The winner will choose a few of the car's final details and I'll post progress shots as it comes together.

To avoid pointless reading if you're just reading this for the first time. You have until April 1st to put in your choice for the car I'm going to be rendering. After April 1st, you have to vote (in a poll) from the list of cars that everyone else picked, but you'll also get to vote on how the car is going to look in the same poll. I did notice that there can only be 18 choices in a poll - we'll burn that bridge when we get there. So SHOUT OUT! Send me an e-mail, PM, use this thread, whatever you wanna do. Everyone who gets involved goes into the hat to win a print of the final drawing PLUS choose the last couple custom touches. And there is no need to feel disappointed if you don't win, cause I'm gonna be selling prints on the cheap after it's all said and done. Everyone can get a piece of the project the whole community had a hand in sculpting.

Pointless reading below.

OK so here's what I wanna do: keep it simple, you vote for any car you like, I draw votes out of a hat and whoever I pick gets a print of the resulting car rendering signed and shipped to your house. Prints of the rendering then go on sale and the first handful get it dirt cheap and after that it gets a "regular" price.

Take a look here http://odellstudios.blogspot.com/ for some of my more current work.

This is just for fun so feel free to post suggestions to make it even more juicy and I'll settle on something more official in the next week or so. My initial thought is to simply take e-mails and PMs for a month or so, post progress of the rendering so you guys can see how it's coming along and go from there. Just make sure to put something like "vote 69 Camaro" (or whatever) in the subject and I'll put em into a pot. Whoever gets drawn picks wheels and color, maybe a few custom mods and I put something together. Or it could be like a community thing where you guys shout out suggestions to narrow the car down to a group of say 5 or 6 models, then ya vote from the list (this is where the winner is picked I suppose) and everyone steers the direction of the design through a poll - like vote for color, wheels etc. That could be cool. Actually that sounds pretty cool, but I'm tired so it could be crazy. Let me hear some thoughts.

I would suggest doing a car that is rarely rendered. There are a lot of camaro renderings.

I tend to agree. Maybe we could make up a list of odd balls to choose from. Anyone else got any thoughts on this?

Here is a link to the other section I posted in. I'll have to condense them after this gets going.

Ford Mavericks are starting to get some attention but I have yet to see any recent renderings.

I'll stick with the car I voted for. How about a '68 Corvette convertable with a FIA road race theme?

Thanks again for your generosity.

ok so now I'm getting some notes and replies so I'll let this thing grow if that's how it pans out. What do you guys think about a Porsche 944? I just watched an older episode of Top Gear where Jeremy drove one ... I think they're kinda cool and different too, plus I kinda wanna draw one.

Think I'll give you guys another week or two and then maybe figure out some kind of poll where you can get involved with how it's gonna look. Maybe the winner gets to pick a couple of the final details. Whaddya say?

OK so actually I've got:
GTO
T-Top TA
Maverick
Vette
Astro Van
I wanna throw in a couple too so to avoid getting a list of 50 cars let's close this thing down say Friday April 1st ... perfect. But don't worry, this isn't an April fools thing. I'll get a poll made that weekend, so get your picks in ASAP!!!! Otherwise you're stuck picking from the list next weekend!

Moderators: Is there a way to see WHO voted in a poll? I want to put everyone who gets involved in the project in the hat. If not, you guys might have to do something to let me know you voted in the poll.

OK so that exceeds 18 and I've got a few more via PM. We can only fit 18 into a poll so we're going to have to cut it down. If you've got a list, just pick one to put into the poll. Thanks for all the responses everybody! :woot: You've exceeded my expectations, especially since I'm playing this by ear. We'll learn from this go around for the next time. Right now I guess we'll just stumble through, because I also want you guys to get to choose at LEAST the color and style.

Styles I have in mind are:
Mild PT custom
Full custom show car
Purpose built track monster

And we'll need at least a half dozen slots for colors unless we combine some or something...

looks like we've got 4 days left before this thing gets rolling and that Pantera is looking like our winner. I'll get in touch with a winner ASAP so we can finalize the looks and then I'll begin posting progress shots of the rendering as it comes together. Thanks to everyone who participated!!! I really appreciate it and your odds are pretty dang good I think.

This bad boy is 27 minutes from closing and the Pantera is our winna!! I'm writing down all the names to go into the hat and the chosen one will get a PM sometime today. Thanks again everybody and check back here to watch the rendering progress.

nicks67ca is our winner! Here is a quote from his private message and an indication which direction the car is going to go.
"Cool...I like Porsche Slate Grey Metallic for color, CCW classic/4 for wheels. Body mods aggressive front splitter, and a rear diffuser is a must. And maybe a clear type rear hood that shows a set of 180 degree headers with a center exit exhaust similar to a modern super car."

He and I are on the same page on this project for sure and I've got some ideas of my own that will hopefully make this one killer machine. We'll start with a front view, I'm not certain I'll get to a rear view in a timely manner to show the rear mods, but we'll see how it goes. The rendering starts tonight. I'll probably have some pencil sketches to show in a few days.

Finally something to look at ... although it's admittedly not much. I started noticing a shark appearance to the front end and I want to try to bring that out some. The idea is to flare out the grille opening and round the corners, add in vents for "eyes" ... or maybe head lights ... I'm not sure yet. Of course I gotta get turn buckles in there and an adjustable splitter. Whaddya think?
