Im new to lateral-g, my name is Scott and Im from Santa Cruz,Ca. I was lucky enough to get my hands on a very clean and stock 68Camaro 4-spd.
One thing led to another, and now Rich Bermea(roadtouring customs) Gilroy, Ca is doing a full DSE build for me. Front to rear. Using 14in baer 6s all around, and mini tubs. Motor is a 421 small block from skip white performance (590+ hp).
I need help on wheel fitment. I am considering doing a staggared set up on my car. 18in front 19in rear. 275front and 325 rear.
Any thoughts or guidence?
Thx in advance
Scott

Welcome, sounds and looks like a real nice project.
For a staggered 18/19 setup, I really like the setup on this car from HPI Customs (member 64pontiac)
Rear wheels are 19x12 with 7 inches of lip (rushforth rated x) 335/30/19 Tire and fronts are 18x9 (Tire size not sure)

Good to see you post Scotty! :woot:
Guys, this is a sweet virgin car with really nice paint. It's got a great parts list going in too. Scott likes to track too so this will be fun when completed to have another local track partner.

With a 19in rear im not sure if i can fit a 335 cleanly with out rubbing issues in a 68'.
Has anyone delt with a 19in rear in a 68' camaro? Dse tubs, narrowed rear, etc.....
325 sounds like it might be the ideal size for a couple of reasons. less rolling resistance vs. 335, weight, and is run on Z06.
Does a staggerd wheel set benefit the suspension geomtry or hurt in a 68'?

Scott, I know we talked about this car already, and after seeing it at RTTC, it is killer and looks great on its 19s, if that's how big you wanna go.

Scott, looks like your project is coming along pretty good. It is good to hear about more pro touring car builds here in Santa Cruz County. We have some of the best mountin roads around for a PT car, even though they are pretty messed up at the moment. That bad small block shoud disturb the peace up here in the mountains pretty good. Looks like you will have your car on the road long before I get my 69 on the road with the progress you are making!!

Scott
I just got my new Billet Spec 18" wheels mounted on my project car. The rears are 18x10 6.5" BS w/ 295/35/18 and the fronts are 18x7 4.5" BS w/ 225/45/18.
Rear: fit is great. No issues with clearance and with a 1" gap between the top of the tire and radius the fender it leaves a full 3" of clearance from the top of the tire to the first contact of the wheel well. The bulge of the tire is measures 2.25" to the outside edge of the fender lip (used to gauge the looks, not clearance). This may not be of much use to you because, while I'm using the DSE Quadra Link and mini tubs, I'm using a 9" from a 68 Bronco so the track width is a little different.
http://i1180.photobucket.com/albums/x417/mrfixit58/Project%20Over%20Budget/IMG00173.jpg
Front: Fit is OK. If I had it to do over I'd go with a 4.75 or even a 4.875". I can't give any final measurements until the car is finished and aligned but for reference, the tire bulge is 1.5" from the outside of the fender lip. I'm using the stock subframe with the Gouldstrad conversion and off-brand (read cheap) tubular upper and lower control arms. I'm planning on changing to the 1/2" taller upper ball joints with the hope that the better camber curve help keep the tires from rubbing. Additionally, I've installed the 13" rotors and PBR 'Vette calipers. The tire vale is only 1/2" away from the caliper. The only way to make a 14" rotor and the PBR caliper clear an 18" Billet Spec Dagger wheel would be to move the tire stem location either to the outer lip or to the inner lip.

This is an awesome built. Really like the wheels and the stance. What backspacing did you end up with for the front and rear. I plan on putting 18x8 front and 18x11.5 for the rear. I really like how the fronts are tucked in. My car has speedtech subframe, complete kit.

Scotty,
The blue 68 is my car. Sorry if this is too late, I dont get on the fourms much. The wheels are 19X9 with 6.2" back space on the front (on a DSE sub frame) and 19x11 on the rear with 5.7" back Space. The rears could be a inch wider = 6.7" back space and fit with the DSE tubs.

I'll field that. Hooker Super Comps 1-7/8" primaries into 3.5" collectors. They do hang below the sub a bit, but not terribly. I'd guess no more than an inch or likely a little less.

Made my first ever "Run to the Coast 2012" last week. With only 500 miles on the car and switching from driving a 06 Subaru STI 400whp to a 68 camaro 500whp. Lets just say there is a learning curve! Over all the setup felt very neutral. traction was a 7 of 10, and turn in was just average. All of which can be improved. My comfort level in the car was getting better each day, just need more seat time.
A special thanks to Team Road Touring Customs; Rich Bermea, Frankie Judd, Dave Gordon, Eric David, Richie jr (aka. Junior B), and Robert (aka. Clay). With out you guys I would be lost in the pro-touring world. Rich the build went great, and:cheers: the Skip White motor got better each day! Thanks for all the hard work.

A special thanks to Rich Bermea of Road Touring Customs. These pics are from the Capitola Car Show where RTC took home 3 awards for 3 different builds. My car was one of them! Thanks Richie.

Thanks for the nice words guys. Kudos to Rich at Road Touring Customs. First for being honest and trustworthy. Second for getting this build done in less than 1 year! You the man Richie! Gotta love the DSE front clip. All this work done on my car, and the hood never came off. BOOM!:lateral:

Car looks great. Are you making the trip down for RTTC this weekend?
scottysimp7
10-02-2012, 10:41 PM
No RTTC this weekend for me. My pockets are empty. If there is another RTTC in March 2013 I will shoot for that. Iron out the suspension set-up and we are ready to go.

I think it's 18x9 and 18x11 - not sure on backspace specs. 265 front tire and 315 rear I remember that.

what brake master cylinder and booster are you using?
CrossRamRich

We are using a DSE master cylinder/ booster. It is a 9 inch dual diaphram booster. And I believe it is a 1 inch master. It is a very nice set up.
