That is nice work, but I have to ask. Why in the world would somebody put the logo of Harley parts on such nice car parts. Btw, I'm a Harley guy. Built my own. But the screaming eagle stuff? Does the owner run a HD dealership or something? The screaming eagle stuff is "ok" for factory, but not exactly real high performance. No insult intended at all. Just kind of strange.

Sti Guy, Love the bulkhead setup! Cool Idea. What is it on? Also, is that a haas TM mill? We run a TM2 Looks similar in the photo. I can imagine you have had some interesting setups/jigs too.

As for the screaming eagle thing..... its for a customers car, and the short version is that hes not really a car guy, and where he is from, their sports team (or something like that that he is into) uses the name etc and thats what he wanted.

Definately not my choice, and probably not the answer your looking for, he doesnt even own a harley. But im sorry, I just did what I was told!

Here's a set of tailights we are working on...a bit tought to see, just finished the last finishing pass since this pic, just gotta do the backs.

They are 3d and angled. They are for a 76 Ventura of all things.... I know I know, what can I do??? They paid for it!!

Hey, no problem. I was just curious. I've built bikes too, and the whole screaming eagle thing is just something that always makes me shake my head a little. Never saw it in the car world before. First time for everything. Nice work.

This is a really awesome thread. I would really love to learn how to design and program stuff on a Haas machine. I have actually looked at what night classes are offered at my local Technical Trade School that is in the town I live in. The bad thing is I don't see any classes labeled "How to Make Custom Hot Rod Parts 101" listed in the course guide. Any advice or knowledge that you could pass along would be really great.

If you can afford the time/cost to take an entry level machining course at your college, then DO IT!!! Machining practices are pretty universal, and its fun to learn, regardless of what you are making. Once you learn basic practices, you develop an understanding of what you and the machine is capable of and the sky is the limit. I am JUST learning all this stuff.......

One of the coolest parts other than coming up with the part itself is trying to figure out the best way to hold on to the part your making and try and limit the number of setups, (unless you have a 4th axis!!)


But yeah, go for it!

Yeah this is something that really interests me. I know you said that you are using a Haas machine but what software are you using to design and create the tooling path? Mastercam?

Awesome. Are you mainly self-taught on it or did you receive training on it? Do you think the sky is the limit for this program or do you eventually think you will hit a wall with it?

It does alot, but yeah I can definately see it running its course soon.

I am self taught, but my business partner is a machinist, BUT he has been out of it since CNC went mainstream, and so we are both learning CAD/CAM together. Having a machining background is priceless when it comes to work setup and everything else though

Chris nice work!!! Do you take requests? I'm looking to get a set of fender badges made for my 68 Camaro. I have 327 badges and was looking for a set that is 406. Same exact thing except 406. I was planning on having the recess painted black to match the car. Can you do or point me in the right direction?

Heres the follow up to our 76 ventura tail lights. We didnt do a finishing pass on the mounting flange, as we were running way too much time into them and you dont see it. But they came out nice! Once the lenses are in they will be sweet. It is tough to see until its in the car, but they are leaned over 10 degrees.

Here's another side project. It looks like just an air cleaner, but its totally custom top and bottom lid.

The client had a round, but wanted an oval, problem was the oval off-the-shelf stuff sat too high with the demon carb, and would hit the firewall. so ours is offset forward (not my favorite thing, but hey!) and the base has a female pocket in the shape of the float bowls to sit down low. I dont have a pic of the bottom because this car is now at Rad Rides By Troy getting some work done by Mr. Trepanier!

Actually the hole is made by drilling a small hole , cutting a bandsaw blade, inserting it through the small hole then welding the blade back together.

Here's something that might be of interest to the machining guy's here.....the part being machined in the video is D-2 Tool Steel that is heat treated to 60-62 Rc..........these are Embossing Punches for one of our customers and there is a .250 transition radius between the flats....we used to grind all the flats and then Paddle on the Radius in the Jig Grinder....It used to take about 2-2 1/2 hours in grinding..........Watch the chips flying of the punch......Remember.....the part is 60-62Rc............It's all in the coating of the carbide end mill...........Wild Stuff......Between 16 pc's we held size w/ .0002

Here is our latest piece. I think its the best we have come up with yet, at least the most intricate piece. Its the fuel filler cap we made for our RS-V camaro. We wanted to stay away from the round cap and make it suit the Marquez tail lights and the Ring bros. handles...... Just our take on another way of doing it.

Had we thought of it sooner, before paint, we would have made a recess for it and a radiused reveal like the tail lights have in the stock tail panel, but for this one it will have to do as an add on piece...... which also leaves it open to be used on virtually anything!

The border is the same design and chamfer as the tail light bezels, and the center of the piece, as well as the center of the cap, will be media blasted and done in a grey color like the tail light surrounds. the holes around the cap are drilled and tapped for some cap screws like the Ring brothers door handles.

So its almost done, but I HAD to post it before it was!!!!

I put it on the car, keep in mind it will look different with the center done in grey and textured with blasting...... and it is missing the cap screws and is not polished yet!!!

Air blast only.............per the manufacturer of the cutting tools instructions.........the neat thing is that all the heat from cutting leaves with the chip......part is almost ambient temp

Some caps/weld bungs for a coolant tank and washer reservoir for the RS-V camaro. Matches the fuel cap. Still needs polishing and Cap screws to finish!
