1968 Camaro front wheel fitment / rubbing Q

I've searched and though I got a few questions answered, I'm still missing a few so I figure I'd ask.

On a stock subframe, it seems like 18 x 8.5 with a 255/35/18 will fit according to James OLC when I searched

Though I know I should match the wheels to the subframe, I have to buy new wheels first since I have to return wheels the car came with to the owner's friend. They were 15" anyways and on the car since the wheels he had on looked funny with the shortened rear housing and mini tub.

I plan on running 305/30/19 in the rear and I want to max rim width if I go to an after market subframe later.

So, What I want to know is, say I run a 245/35/18 on a 9" rim and I end up rubbing on full lock with this combo, where exactly would I rub turning right and turning left. Also, do people tend to rub turning right or left?

The reason I am asking this now is that I don't have my car on my since the car went straight to the interior shop after I purchased it, otherwise I can look and see for myself.

on a 9" rim you should be between 6.125 and 6.375" back space, on a stock sub frame. i will bet the rim touches the sway bar or upper control arm first.

On my '69 I'm running 17x9.5 275/40's with 5.5" back space. I rub frame at lok-to-lok but not to bad. Cant be much different for a '68.

Like stated above you will rub frame and possibly sway bar but if you are alright with that then the backspace Blake suggested will work. I see a bigger problem though. A 245 wide tire should be mounted on a 8" wide wheel. It will look stretched on a 9. We often spec 265 wide tires or 275 wide tires on a9 inch wheel. Remember that a rim is always one inch wider than the stated width as you have to account for the 1/2" bead on each side. So an 8" rim measures 9" overall.

Also, why such a short tire? You'll find that most people run a 245/40/18 up front as the tire is the right OD.

Thanks for your input guys, this will help when I order the wheels. Well on my M3, I run a 245/35/18 on a 8.5 and it seems to be a perfect match. another half inch will make it stretch just a LITTLE.

The short tire is to match a 305/30/19 rear but get max rim width for an aftermarket subframe later on in the future.

BUT, from OLC's set up, It seems that you can run 275's which makes me reconsider the whole thing. I had no idea this can be done on a stock subframe but with speed tech arms and afx spindles, seems like this can be done!
