Just thought I would share my project and some pictures of my build since you guys have helped me more than you’ll ever know. I have been a reader, watcher and listener for many years and wanted to say thanks for all the information and insight shared.:cheers:
I’ve had my 69 Camaro for about 5 years planning and collecting parts. I can do a lot of things myself but welding and getting body panels to line up correctly are not my strong suits so I brought the car to a professional which was Brian at Screamin Performance in Merritt Island, Florida. I started with what I thought was a very good shell. He set the car up on a rotisserie, sandblasted the entire car and shot it with epoxy prime. He then proceeded to weld up (fix) any and all of my welding flaws on the DSE mini tub install I did at home. Again not my best trait. He also found a very poorly installed quarter panel (not done by me), and some other problem areas found after sandblasting. You often find things you’ve never seen before or don’t like when they’re naked!! LOL. Brian welded up my Prodigy Bar and installed the narrowed Moser 12 bolt. I do have to give a shout out to Frank at Prodigy Customs for his help with planning my project. Brian then removed, sandblasted, epoxy primed, seam sealed and installed two new quarter panels, tail panel and rear filler panel as well as welding in the DSE frame connectors. He made sure all gaps were perfect then seam sealed the entire car and painted the undercarriage with Raptor, a uv protected two-part truck bed coating. It’s hard to see in pictures but looks awesome in person.
Everything that Screamin Performance has done was absolutely top notch, not leaving anything to chance.:thumbsup: This is “NOT” by far an open wallet build (as much as I’d like it to be) and I have to Thank Brian for working with my budget and me.
I can now start installing my motor, trans, wiring, running fuel and brake lines……. the fun stuff. After that the car will go back in hibernation. Hmmm maybe a project name “Project Hibernation”???? Have to save up more money for front-end sheet metal and paint $$$ (ouch).
I’m still an old school drag racer by heart but trying to convert to pro-touring with some suspension upgrades, wheels, tires and some interior things. Slow baby steps.
Motor still old school, BBC 427 with a intercooled ProCharger going through a JW Turbo 400 reverse manual valvebody and a Moser TrueTrac posi with 3.73 gears. Some other specs are a Prodigy Bar, DSE frame connectors, DSE upper control arms, hotchkis front sway bar, Iroc steering box and 2” lowering springs, still can’t afford the DSE coilover conversion. Brakes will be the Prodigy Customs Wilwood front and rear brake package. Fronts are 12.19” drilled discs with red 6 piston calipers. Body has been mini tubbed and will be painted two tone, black and silver or gunmetal with a RS front end. Wheels will be everyone’s favorite TT II’s, LOL, with centers painted the silver or gunmetal color. Can’t afford the three-piece wheels yet. Rears are 17x11 with 335/35 tires and fronts 17x8 with 225/50 tires.
