First of all I would like to say I am impressed with some of the projects you guys have going on. My name is Brian and I am in the process of rebuilding my 1970 chevelle from the ground up.
Currently, I am in the process of replacing a lot of sheet metal.
Heres my situation..
I love the protouring look that I have seen in magazine and many of the vehicles on this site. That being said I will be removing the emblems, wheel well moldings, rocker moldings and adding some 17" inch wheels.
I was thinking of retaining the factory mist green color with black SS stripes because most of the chevelles you see are red or black. I have a set of 17" TTII but I am willing to sell them for something that is more unique. I would lower it so the tires would start to tuck in the wheel well.
What would you do? Am I headed in the right direction? Will this color combination pop?
I am not just going for looks,My whole suspension and drivetrain have been done. I have added a 1.125/1 sway bars and I will soon be upgrading my springs,In the future I will upgrade the stock disc brakes.

All I can tell you is when we were heavy in muscle cars, we kept a row of 12 to 16 LS6 Chevelles (our specialty). Out of all the colors, the Green Mist was sold around, could not give it away, along with the Autum Gold. We boought and sold 30+ of those things, before we finally raffled that car through the Chevelle club to off it.

It depends on the reason you are building this car. If you do not think you will be selling the car in the near future then the resale value is not that important so go with the green if thats what you like. If, on the other hand, resale value is important to you then you might think about picking a color that has a broader appeal to the people that might be looking to purchase.
Just my two cents.

To me, resale value, and overall crowd / fan desiability are one and the same. If you don't mind being the guy with the "nice car, to bad it's that color" Car, then go for it.

I plan to keep the car for a long time but agreee that resale value and the number of turned heads are similar.
well I am back to where I started..
what color would you paint it? with or without stripes? and what body mods would you do?
I had a dark green interior but i guess that can be changed.
I am just trying to stimulate some ideas

Silver w/no stripes. But then that is for my idea. Could always try photoshop on a pic to see what appeals to you.

Well, lets see. Black is timeless. I personally am not much a fan of reds or blues, in other words, I don't paint my own cars those colors, BUT, they are very popular across a broad spectrum. There are some rather nice variants of reds and blues to consider. Even if someone does not love reds or blues, like me, most find them acceptable. Silver is a neutral color not likely to offend anyone, and some love it, almost no one hates silver. Yellows and Oranges are hot, but you either LOVE them or HATE them, not many are middle of the road on those colors. For the record, while I love Yellow and have hadm success with yellow, I have also found yellow to be the color most likely to offend! Greens are tough, funny enough, the plan right now is to use a rotten pickle green in a two tone design on our Rivera, and I am not usually a green fan. But we like funky greens. And as much as I really think Orange is a fad color, we will be using Tangelo in a two tone design on The Milf Project. But then again, I know the painter and can redo whenever it goes out of fashion
I don’t know if I helped much here. All I have done is give the opinion of a 25 year painter / builder and show veteran, also a dealer that sees colors comes and go. If you would like to tell me what colors in general you like, I would be happy to help you pick a nice shade or variant you will like, at least give you an opinion. And you know what they say about opinions! Just decide if you want to be trendy or timeless.

I think it would look cool, you wouldn't see too many others painted the same color. I tend to go against the grain though. I could see where it might hurt resell if that ever comes up down the road.

Didn't Foose do an older Corvette on Overhaulin in a soft colored green with tan in it? I thought they added a small red stripe. Check out Overhaulin's web site.
That was a top notch color scheme.

I had a 1970 Chevelle SS 396 that green mist colow with black stripes. It wasnt my favorite color for a car but still cool. I think a dark green with white stripes looks good.
Great color and green is making a big comeback! Just unload the TT-IIs and you'll have a unique ride. If you needed to dump it at auction, I'd go red like everyone else but if you love the car and want to keep it, go green!
As for not drawing a crowd with green, I'll be sure and tell everyone I see standing around Chicayne so i can get a good picture for once!

When it comes down to colors, i look at it this way , if i have a car that is a numbers matching car, and it is going back together that way , hands down it goes back to the original color.( for ex. a SS or a Boss ) Once modifications have been done to the car i think the color thing is wiped off the board and then it comes to personal prefrence . With that said, personally i really like black and med to dark blues. If you want to resell the car red is always a sure bet. As of late, some greens have really grown on me, for example House of Kolors Lime time green!! Lime time green with Black stripes with a set of 17's on the front side and 18's on the rear (Budnicks or Billet Spec.) and you will have a real head turner!!

I do not much much experience wih using photo editing pictures.
I don't know what I want to do.... I would like to use the mist green but I would love to see it on paper all smoothed out, lowered, with some wheels. If it looks good I will go that route and some people will like and some won't.

I am going to post some pictures at s10forum and see if someone can photoshop it for me. They have a section only for photochoping.

try a midnight green pearl with charcoal stripes and charcaol rims with the outer ring polished slammed smoothed and cool
im a painter... when a customer wants to pick a custom colour we send them round the new car dealerships and tell them to find the colours that look the best, then get the paint code
try finding a green you like, cause not much will go with a green interior except black, silver's and green

go for the green, but pick a darker green that matches the int color for the stripes. obviously its not a resale color, but it would be different, and in a world where every other car is black or red....different is good

You asked a loaded question..As we all know, we all have different opinions and are entitled to them. Sometimes asking a question like this can confuse you even more. Been there done that!! We all like input though.
I think as Frank said. Reds & blues will always be safe colors. Kind of like TT wheels. You see them everywhere but always look good & excepted. Me personally I like being different. I think green in the right hue would look good. I think if the car is built & detailed right, you can almost pull off any color. I have seen some cars with what you would think is an hideious color, but they were able to pull it off. But some...you say WTF?? Once again though just my opinion.
In the long run though, it's your car. Do what you think looks best.
Did I confuse you more?? :D

You also have to look at the rest of the car. Mist Green is a vintage color. So it begs for other vintage cues such as cast spoke wheels, the right amount of chrome trim and as you mentioned--a matching interior such as darker green. Even a black vinyl top can help complete the look.
So if you absolutey must have the latest Budnik trick of the week 22" polished wheel, Mist Green may not work.
It sounds like you dig the color. You can now get large diameter tires with vintage redline stripes. Wrap em around cast spoke wheels such as the offerings from Vintage Wheel Works or PS Engineering, complement the look with the right upholstery, lower the car to draw more attention to those redlines....and you'll be beating off the bidders and onlookers with a stick.

I agree Steve. If I wanted it to look original I would have kept the vinal top, trim and 14 inch wheels.
I am still very confised about paint color. I was considering silver but silver isn't anythinsg special. I was thinking about a custom orange/ bronze but then should I keep my fiber optic lamp monitors?
I had a rendering done on my car. See link below What do you think???

Any other wheel recommendations? I tried a few other wheels but most of them are too expensive(1700+) or they don't belong on a car from the 70s

I was thinking this Satin Jade Pearl color on this 300 looks nice. Not sure how it would look on your car. I have 5-10 colors i cant decide between for my car. Light m/blue, black, silver, and a sandlewood color are on my top 5list, but i added this satin jade pearl color to the list also.

Man... I just went through this color picking process myself... what a pain in the ass. The more people you ask (like I did) just gives you more ideas and complicates or draws out the process.
I did something that really helped me. I chose 5 or 6 colors and gave the codes to my painter. He sprayed each color on a test panel of sheetmetal about 8x11 each and sent them to em. I compared them in the sun and in overcast. I tell ya this really helped me. Might wanna try it. Cheap investment to make before you spend big $$ on a paint job.
I really like the mist green on your rendering. Maybe try some gunmetal/anthracite/gray wheels and I think it would be killer. It really is your call and you have been told more than once the 2 routes you can take - your choice, or the safe resale choice. Do what you think is best and don't look back.
Good luck!

Silver is a non-color. Very conservative and safe. There is nothing wrong with that. Just be sure that words like "conservative and safe" are in line with your goals. If your goals are not clear, define them with words like vintage vs modern, stealth, flashy, subtle, dramatic, colorful, racy, industrial, euro, punk, street rod and my personal favorite: post-apocolyptic.
Define your goals without naming a single color. Your goals will help you define more than just color. Other parameters such as wheel selection, engine dress up, steering wheel and gauge selection, seat type and upholstery, and of course striping will also fall into place.

Green can be an awesome color, if done correctly and chosen wisely. My dad painted his car an awesome Range Rover Green. If I were you, I would visit many new dealer lots and find a green close to what you want. Get the color code of the car's trim tag and take it to your nearest paint shop. Then tell them to mix up a batch of that, but customize it how you want. The paint shop should be able to mix the paint to how you want, whether it be a bit lighter, darker, metallic, kandy, etc. Green really is a cool color, and since it isn't done much, it will make your car stand out that much more.

I plan on painting mine a two-tone silver but Jeff Schwartz keeps using a green primer on the car and damn it sure fits.http://www.fquick.com/images/vehicles/full/11074820.jpg (http://www.fquick.com/garages/viewgallery.php?action=viewimg&id=4820)

If you're going to go green, make sure you spend alot of time getting the right mix. It's a tough color to pull off imo.

Color is up to you, however, I hope you are going to stay away from those Gragar rims. IMO bad idea! Yes nice rims cost money and that helps big time making the car and color look right. Plus go with at least 18" rims. Huge wheel wells to fill in this car. Ask me how I know?
MY car has a stock looking exterior and interior look to it, except for stance and rim/tire selection.

its funny you should bring up green. i work for barrys speed shop, yes the same one as the tv show, we did a car a dark metallic green. it was painted with PPGs new line of water born paint. we had to have the spray booth modified to paint this new stuff and from what PPG told us we are one of a few custom shops to be retrofitted to be able to apply these new colors. i have to tell you as a fan of green it is an extreamly vibrant color. i dont know for sure i can find out if you are interested but all the prep stays the same however the clear is harder then what is currently being used. kinda like an epoxy from what i was told. apparently thanks to the goverment, yes the same people that want to have the smog law repealed, are mandating this system for all new cars.
