View Full Version : She won't let me drive!

We bought my wife's (Beth/yield2me) car a little over a year ago. The original plan was to buy a “completed” car that we could do some cruising in, attend a few local car shows and maybe do a couple road trips. The car came with a few “gremlins” that stopped much of that from happening last year. After sorting through most of them we did get her on the road again last fall for a few hundred miles of fun.

Our current plan is to do some upgrades this winter and be back on the road this spring. We plan on doing some autocross where Beth says "I'm gonna drive it like I stole it!"

http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/ad79/edspokey64/Camaro/10-8-2010Camaro.jpg

The big items changed so far:
Swapped the spun bearing/cracked block 454 for a built 468
Swapped the Saginaw 4sp for a TKO 600
Swapped the manual rack for power rack
Dual pass aluminum radiator
Dynamat'd the interior

Some cosmetic things:
Modo pedals
Momo shift knob
Marquez tail lights
Twist Machine fender braces
Closeout panel

Our Winter projects:
G-link
Fab9/TruTrac/31 spline axles
Wilwood brakes
Vintage Air
Sound system

Here’s a before and after (so far) of the engine bay.

The flakey rattle canned driver’s kick panel will be taken care of when I do the sound system.

Out with the old

Got some of the old parts that could be unbolted from the rear off the car this weekend. Gotta do some cutting and grinding to remove a couple crossmembers from the previous setup next.

The old 10 bolt, 4-link, and rotors.

A 1/2 mile gravel driveway makes it a biatch to keep the underside clean.
http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/ad79/edspokey64/Camaro/IMG_5863.jpg

I'll have to re-route some fuel and brake lines as well.

Got the rest of the old rear setup off the car today. The front cross member with the loop was a major PITA. Took a couple cut-off wheels, 4 reciprocating saw blades and then a BFH but I finally got it.

Well I'm living up to my screen name. It takes a special person to turn a couple weekend project into a couple months!

Got the Fab9/TrueTrac assembled, the G-link mostly done, and started on the rear brakes. Next I need to clean up my old brake lines and run new fuel lines. I'm also considering building my own 3" stainless exhaust. After all of that I'll remove everything then clean up and re-paint the spots of bare metal.

We're also looking into going EFI. So let me know if you have any suggestions on places to research our options. I've been looking at Holley and Fast's websites and read a couple threads on chevytalk and chevelles forums.

Finally stopped working for long enough to get some things done on the car again. Changed out the master cylinder, ran new front brake lines, and installed the front disc brakes. Since I need to run new rear brake lines I decided I better get the exhaust built/installed as well. I bought 3" Magnaflow mufflers and x pipe and then built the rest with sanitary stainless pipe and pre-formed fittings. I've been wanting to learn how to tig stainless and figured this would be a good project since its mostly hidden. :D I found out that the welding was easy compared to measuring and fitting everything. It took a bit of cursing and a few beers but I got it done.

We just returned from a trip to the Big Island. Had a really great time. The vacation was long overdue.

Since I'm not as far as I should be on Beth's car, we rented a "constellation prize".

We saw it in the parking lot of a rental company as we drove by and her eyes just lit up. This car is damn near the same color as her 69. We had a reservation with a different company already for an Impala (or similar). Luckily the two companies operate together and we were able to have them pull it from the other lot. It was a bit of a price jump but definitely a lot more fun than an Impala to cruise around the island. I probably only got to drive it about 5 out the 800 miles we put on it but cashing in the new brownie points was worth every penny. :unibrow: :D

http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/ad79/edspokey64/IMG_6764.jpg

The island is full of twisty roads that were a blast with this car. We'd never buy a new one because we just love the classics way more but it was definitely the right car for this trip.

http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/ad79/edspokey64/IMG_7457.jpg

There was 8 miles of gravel from construction when we drove up Saddle Road from Hilo to head across the island. The fog/rain gave Beth white knuckles for bit.

http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/ad79/edspokey64/IMG_7690.jpg

Here's a pic of the car at the Southern-most tip of the US.
http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/ad79/edspokey64/Camarosouth.jpg

Self-hijack over.
I did finish up the brake lines and fab up muffler hangers before we left. Bleeding the brakes and doing a tune up are all that’s in the way of driving it again. Though we still have Vintage Air, Rick’s tank, EFI (whenever it arrives) and a long list of other odds and ends to call it “complete for now.”

Been working on Beth's car here and there the last couple months. Finally took her out for its maiden voyage of the year last night. Went and bedded in the new brakes and then cruised around town for a while. Between the G-link and new 3.73 gears it feels like a new car. Our previous 4 link just did not work at the ride height we were running and the old gears were 2.73s. :_paranoid The exhaust is quite loud inside the car. It currently dumps right behind the passenger seat floor boards. I have to put sound deadener in the trunk yet. I am also going to work on tail pipes out the rear after I get the Rick's tank installed that's been sitting here a while.

Here's some videos from last night. Audio/video quality is kind of crappy… I'll get some better video once we have everything broke in.

I've also got the vintage air 90% installed. I just need to wrap up the wiring, charge the system, and attach the vent hoses. I'm waiting to hook up the heater hoses until I swap out to the EFI manifold. We did receive our EFI setup. I need to finish planning the fuel system and then decide if I'm taking on the swap this season or just enjoying the car and do it this winter.

Thanks Wayne! The weather has been beautiful this last week. The previous 3-4 weeks before were horribly hot and humid. I even bought an AC unit for the shed. All of the things I've done to the car are firsts for me. The learning curve plus long work weeks makes for slow progress on some of these installs. Now is a good time to be driving.

Our little town has had its celebration days all week. Tomorrow is a car show in the park. Tonight was the customary cruise night before the show. We took the camaro to the car wash in town and cleaned her up nice. Then started cruising around. The streets were bumper to bumper stop and go traffic. Go a car length and stop, go a car length and stop. It was kind of boring with 600hp and stick shift. 95% of the vehicles cruising were pretty much brand new. Over 50% of them were pickup trucks. (Gotta love small rural towns) There were maybe 30 classic cars out tonight and a handful of 80s and 90s mustangs and camaros.

After cruising for about 15 mins an 18 year old kid in a 2001 Aurora rear ended us when were stopped. Luckily it was in the slow traffic and was just a bump. It scratched the bumper, scuffed the lower tail panel and cracked the paint a little. He’s insured and all will probably be fine. But it was quite the buzz kill.

When it first happened I stepped out of the car to look at it. The two cars were up against each other and we were holding up traffic. I told Beth that we should drive ahead to the next block and get out of traffic. I went back to tell the kid what we were doing and Beth had started the car and took off without me. The kid’s car was full so I had to walk a block and a half to catch up to them. Man that was like insult to injury… But we are laughing about her leaving me now.

After that whole deal we took the car for a cruise in the country side to get out of town and blow off some steam. Beth even let me drive for a little bit. She must have felt bad for leaving me.

Thanks,

From the way this car was built I don't think it was a drag car. Though I think it had some used pieces borrowed from a drag car. The ride quality was rough but we were running the car too low and the suspension was bottoming out.

Over the last few days we've put around 100 miles on the car breaking things in. The G-Link makes it feel like a whole new car.

Small update.

Pulled the old manifold/carb and started mocking up the EFI setup.

My old setup wouldn't allow an air filter to fit under the hood. I knew the EFI setup was shorter but still had my fingers crossed about it fitting.

Thanks Wayne!

I'll measure the height of my setup next time I'm in the shop for you to referance against yours.

When it was in the shop getting the rear repainted we had the shop trim the radius around the air cleaner under the hood. Our air cleaner had also clipped that radius with the old setup. Part of the hood inner structure had been hacked up by the previous owner so I didn't feel bad about doing a bit more.

Hey Wayne,
I measured up our setup tonight. It's approx 8 3/8" from front lip of intake to top of throttle body. With the air cleaner on it's a hair shy of 11". The air cleaner has 1 1/4" drop base which barely hovers over the rails. We'll see if there's enough air flow this spring.

Slowly picking away at it. Finally got up the nerve to cut a hole in the firewall. After locating where I wanted it I drilled just the 1/4" center hole first. Then I attached the hole saw and ran the bit backwards to cut through the paint/filler. Then slowly cut the 2" hole. It didn't go as bad as I feared it could.

With the birth of our first child (Jacob) last February and a busy year with work there has not been much Camaro time. Jacob came 6 weeks early and it’s been a wild ride ever since then. I'm glad to report everyone is doing well. It’s hard believing that he’s almost a year old.

The Camaro did not leave the garage in 2012. Definitely need to get it out this year. I’m taking some time off work at the end of the week to get a few to-dos checked off. Thought I’d post up a couple older pics to get myself psyched up.

The last thing I did was get the Rick’s tank mounted. I plan to work on the fuel lines and tank venting this week.

If all goes well I will be posting up some updates on Sunday.

Update time. Spent half of Thursday and the majority of Friday working on the car.

Started by laying out the bulk of the parts left to install and typed up a list of “needed to run” items to prioritize my work.

http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/ad79/edspokey64/Camaro/IMG_0252.jpg

I spent most of my time laying out the fuel system. Got the front/return lines ran to the regulator. The return line will also flow thru a cooler I mounted in front of the radiator.

http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/ad79/edspokey64/Camaro/IMG_0253.jpg

For the feed side I struggled with what to do with the y-block. I ended up making a little bracket that re-uses one of the holes from the previous coil installation. I may move it lower so the lines hug the top of the valve cover. I need to figure out where to mount the MSD box and coil so I can finish routing the feed line.

After the fuel lines are done I will focus on the electrical system again. Need to get power to the Holley ECM, fuel pump relay, & Vintage Air unit. Then it’s on to a few exhaust updates before changing fluids and pre-fire inspection.

Painted our MSD box with a black rattle can kitchen appliance enamel. Seems like a nice durable finish. I roughed up the factory red with a scotch bright pad before painting. After the black dried I hit the high spots with a palm sander to bring them back down to aluminum. Time to clean it up and get it mounted.

http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/ad79/edspokey64/Camaro/IMG_1461.jpg (http://s923.photobucket.com/user/edspokey64/media/Camaro/IMG_1461.jpg.html)

Been trying to reuse or cover up old holes in our smoothed firewall. Found that a 2.125" billet fuel filter bracket works great for a coil mount. Even the holes matched up to the old chrome bracket. I also did a little trimming to clean up the MSD mounting bracket.

http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/ad79/edspokey64/Camaro/IMG_1466.jpg (http://s923.photobucket.com/user/edspokey64/media/Camaro/IMG_1466.jpg.html)

Chris Robinson's Major Havoc (http://www.lateral-g.net/forums/showpost.php4?p=476067&postcount=248) build thread has given me some good ideas for finishing our fuel system.

Now that spring is here I need to take time off work again to wrap up this project.

Had a little time this afternoon so I got the MSD box mounted to it's bracket and then to the firewall. I also played around with options for my fuel supply and made a shopping list for fittings needed to finalize it. I originally had the regulator mounted off the intake behind the pulleys. I don't like where the return line runs in this setup so I'm going to reverse things and borrow Chris's idea on where to mount the regulator. This will work better with the cooler I'm mounting in front of the radiator as well.

Took Wednesday off to work on the car and also put in a few hours today. Wrapped up making the fuel supply lines and finished a few small items. Need to make a bracket to support the regulator yet. I also plan to pressure test all of the lines after rounding up a couple fittings to complete the testing manifold. I started tackling the wiring today. Have a handful components to get sorted out. Holley HP EFI harness, Fast Dual Sync Dis, MSD Digital 6AL box, Fuel pump/relay, and a Vintage Air unit. It was daunting at first but picked away at it and think I have a good plan now. I’m hoping to take another day off this week to keep at it.

Looks great Ed. Good job.

Was out in the garage by 630 this morning. Other than stopping to mow the lawn it was a productive day on the car. Wiring is over half done and I got most of the fuel lines flushed and pressure tested. Should have time this weekend to keep plugging away.

Here’s pics of the pressure testing setup. I flushed the hoses with water then attached the valve side and blew them out with air. After that I attached the gauge and pressurized the hose. I let it sit a couple minutes listening for leaks and watching the gauge then bled off the pressure. So far no leaks. :hapdance:

This certainly isn’t as big of a deal as others are experiencing for weather or flooding this year. I just thought I’d share the “excitement” we had this morning. A crazy thunderstorm rolled thru last night. It was nonstop high winds, down pouring rain, lightning and thunder for 3-4 hours. When I got up this morning I hopped in my truck to go see if anything blew away at our office and was met by our friendly law enforcement on our washed out road.

http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/ad79/edspokey64/road%20wash%20out/20130526_090336.jpg (http://s923.photobucket.com/user/edspokey64/media/road%20wash%20out/20130526_090336.jpg.html)

We have approx 1/3 mile of gravel from the concrete road of our development to the city street. It crosses a small creek about halfway. (normally 2' wide) There is a pasture on one side and backyards of another development on the other. The barbwire fence of pasture caught debris and created a dam which backed up the water enough to top the road and wash out more than half the road width. I can tell from the knocked over grass that the flow was over 100’ wide at one point last night. This road is our only way in or out.

http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/ad79/edspokey64/road%20wash%20out/20130526_085133.jpg (http://s923.photobucket.com/user/edspokey64/media/road%20wash%20out/20130526_085133.jpg.html)

With it being a holiday weekend only one of the city maintenance guys were in town. Thankfully he was kind enough to come lend a hand. I spent over an hour pulling/digging away the debris on both sides to open up flow. It started raining again when I was out there so I got thoroughly soaked and covered in mud. I clipped the bottom 3 runs of barbwire covering the culvert to help prevent this from happening again. The cattle aren’t going to fit through the 24” culvert anyways…

The maintenance guy grabbed the city’s pay loader and made trips through town to bring 5 bucket loads of gravel to get us temporarily fixed up. We removed the big rocks around the gas line and backfilled around it by hand after it was inspected for damage.
http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/ad79/edspokey64/road%20wash%20out/20130526_085101.jpg (http://s923.photobucket.com/user/edspokey64/media/road%20wash%20out/20130526_085101.jpg.html)

The city has plans to pave this road when the pasture gets developed for housing. Hope that day comes soon since it'd be much nicer to drive the Camaro on.

Spent all of yesterday working on the car. All fuels lines are done and pressure tested. The supply line off the tank leaked during the pressure test. I mixed up some soapy water and found it coming from the swivel nut portion. I reassembled with a dab of thread sealant and that did the trick. Until that point I had left the male/female AN threads dry during testing.. I also got the II Much Fab fuel tank vent installed and plumbed and a few more electrical connections completed. Hope to work more on the car tonight or tomorrow. We have some misc remaining parts arriving on Tuesday so I’m hoping next week brings a more exciting update to this thread.

http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/ad79/edspokey64/Camaro/IMG_0538.jpg (http://s923.photobucket.com/user/edspokey64/media/Camaro/IMG_0538.jpg.html)

Between lat-g, google and you tube I’m starting to feel like I could rule the world! :sarcasm_smiley: J/K But I have been learning a lot as I go with this project. Pretty much everything I’m doing is a first for me. Yesterday I did find TDC for the first time in my life after some reading and watching a video. I gutted an old spark plug, drilled it out, ran a piece of all thread thru it, then ground down a jamb nut so it would fit into the head threads. Our old cast iron heads are laying around yet so I had something to test fit before trying on our aluminum RHS heads. I verified I was on the compression stroke by holding my finger over the #1 plug hole as I manually turned the crank. Then I inserted the piston stop into cylinder 1, placed a piece of tape on the balancer, turned the crank slowly until it stopped and marked the 0 location on the tape. Then I spun it the opposite direction until it stopped and marked the 0 location on the tape again. Wrapped a small piece of paper around the balancer, transferred both marks to it, matched up the two marks while folding in half to find the center point, then wrapped it back around the balancer and marked the center point on the tape. Not too surprising but it matched perfectly to the original line on the balancer.

http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/ad79/edspokey64/Camaro/pistonstop.jpg (http://s923.photobucket.com/user/edspokey64/media/Camaro/pistonstop.jpg.html)

Took some time but since we bought the engine preassembled and I was not around the shop when it was installed I would have been making an assumption that it was right. I’ve learned the hard way on this car that ASSumptions only cost us more money and time later. Time to get the distributor installed and verify the plug wires still fit.

It was a long week of ups a lot of downs and some ups again. Sometimes these cars just kick you square in the nuts! :bang: Chased a ton of gremlins. Most of them came from a couple wiring issues (my mistake) and a usb driver/old ECU firmware issue (bought the Holley setup 2 years ago). Worked till midnight a couple nights and took some extra time off work. On Thursday I started over and worked thru the instructions several times and found the wiring issues. Friday morning we could get it to fire but it wouldn’t stay running. The timing was bouncing around and couldn’t be adjusted. In the afternoon we called Holley’s tech line and that’s when we figured out the firmware/software weren’t jiving. I hadn’t thought that was an issue since the computer and ECU were talking. After updating everything we prevailed and got the car running. It started off pretty rough but began to smooth out after we got the timing synced to the software. It is pretty cool to watch the system learn and self-adjust.

Unfortunately the issues kept us from making a local cruise night. On the plus side working through the issues has given me a thorough understanding of all of the new system components. Another positive thing from this week is that my dad came over last Sunday afternoon and Monday evening to lend a hand. We run a business together but haven’t spent that kind of personal time together in years. Really hope to keep that going.

Still have a list of things to button up before the first drive. She’s getting close but time for a short breather.

I agree Greg. Other than the initial motor/trans swap, I've done about all the work myself. I don't mind working alone... But I must say it was great sharing the experience with my dad. Plus there are few things that just require an extra set of hands. He stopped by for a few minutes Friday night just to see how it was looking and hear me fire it up. I think he was more excited to hear it run then I was.

Been a long couple of months since we fired up the car and I last posted an update. Illness and death in the family along with a crazy work load can really burn a person out. Thankfully things are normalizing.

Took a little time off work this week and got some things buttoned up on the car.
Heat shield on fuel lines
Adjusted exhaust to add clearance to fuel lines and built new/better muffler hangers
Installed speedo gear/adapter
Wrapped up AC wiring and cleaned up wiring under dash
Fixed a clearance issue between the throttle linkage and air cleaner base and took slack out of throttle cable
Installed seat belts in the back seat and a hook in the package tray for our son’s car seat
Got the AC charged
Buttoned up the engine bay and cleaned the interior.

Driving to the AC appointment Wednesday was the first time the car has been on the road in 2 years. Man, it’s crazy to think about that… After picking it up I put on 20 miles of town and hi-way driving. There is a bit of a stumble when taking off with too low of RPM that I still need to figure out. But other than that the EFI really lets the car pull strong and smooth.

Yesterday our town had a cruise night. It was great to finally be able to load the family up and go for a drive. Made a couple laps around town then met up with some friends. They had never seen the car out of the garage before. Hung out with them a while and then decided to take a couple more laps and head home. Traffic was bumper to bumper at a snail pace which really sucks with a torquey big block and manual trans. We decided to head towards the edge of town and do a loop around the industrial park then head home.

A couple blocks away from home the exhaust fumes/gas smell got really strong. We’ve got a header leak and the tune seems to be running rich so I assumed it was coming from that. We got her pulled into the garage and I noticed wet spots on the driveway and floor. It was gas! I did a once over of all the fittings I could easily access and did not see an drips. I cycled the fuel pump a few times and finally found the leak. It was a pretty rapid drip coming out of the braid hose that runs from the driver side fuel rail behind the distributor to the regulator. It was dripping onto the EFI wire harness then down on to the bell housing. Thank God nothing caused it to ignite! :confused59: I was not able to pin point where the leak originates from. It seemed to be coming through the braided ss at the low spot but I could not see an obvious hole. It could be coming from a hose end and traveling down to the low spot. There are no pinch points and the hose is not rubbing on anything. Everything was hot so I did not dig into it too much. I wiped up what I could and put a fan blowing on the engine bay to cool it down and dry it off. I had pressure tested every hose before final install and fire up. Hopefully I find something obvious and can get it remedied quickly.

Here's some obligatory crappy cell phone pics from Wednesday.. Will shoot some better pics and maybe a video next time we take the car out.

I took a minute today and pulled the leaking fuel line. My plan was to pressure test it again but there was an obvious burn spot on the braided SS. :brix:
I investigated a bit and found the wires that shorted on the line. Looks like some electrical tape came undone and exposed a couple bare wires. This bit of wiring is another lovely thing that makes me want to slap the previous owner/builder. :twak: I don’t understand the laziness in leaving bare wires so long when crimping ends on them… :sieg:

I can’t totally blame them for this incident. I really should have traced these down and cleaned this crap up when I was installing the EFI. I’ve got some more braided line on the way and should have it fixed up this weekend.

I am extremely thankful things did not get out of control the other night! It certainly could have gone horribly bad in a hurry.

I learned the hard way to NEVER wire tie a wire to braided ANYTHING... that stuff is like 80 grit!!

I don't run braided next to anything I don't want a hole in!

Glad you find the culprit Ed. Hopefully that is the only "mistake" you find. Yeah, braided wire can be a bit abrasive.
Good luck man!

For sure! I had a spare moment today so I looked over the wiring some more. I found a 12" section that had all of the insulation burnt completely off. That must have been cooking a while.. These wires are bundled with sensor wires that go back to the gauge cluster. I don’t recall losing any gauges so I’m going to have to do some investigating. Looks like I have a bit of a re-wire project ahead of me.

Wasn't tied to it but I left the wires loose and didn't prevent them from touching the braided line. The wiring will be much improved when I’m done. I'm also going to sleeve the new hose with a heat shield when I replace it for an extra layer of protection.

Nice build, just read through it.

Thanks Wan Man!!

Spent all day yesterday doing yard work and did not get out to work on the car. I made it out there today while our son was napping.

The fried wire was originally pink and was bundled with a white wire that was labeled as a ground. The pink was too destroyed to see any wording. I started tracing their path and pulling them loose. They were taped together with most of the main wiring harness. One bundle went to the starter, another that went to the electrical bulkhead and the others were all of the gauge senders. Getting at wires between the bell housing and firewall is a PITA. My hands had to contort in in ways they never have before. Some of the electrical taped was soft and slimey. I’m not sure if that’s from heat or from the fuel leak. It was quite the mess.

Here’s some of the carnage.
http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/ad79/edspokey64/Camaro/IMG_2271.jpg (http://s923.photobucket.com/user/edspokey64/media/Camaro/IMG_2271.jpg.html)

Here’s the 2 larger wires/terminals I found them connected to. The white was labeled ground and the pink said it was an ignition feed. Thankfully the car has an AAW setup and I could reference a diagram. These appear to be what hooked up to an old distributer. That must have been a while ago since they’re not used with my current Fast or the MSD Pro Billet that came on the car. These 2 connectors were placed right next to each other in a ball of electrical tape with no insulation between them. If the other ends hadn’t shorted out then these might have later anways.

Should be able to get these cleaned up and make up the new fuel line next time I’m in the garage.

Had a little more time this evening so I started cleaning up the wiring. Got a couple of the runs done. Still need to handle the gauge sender wires.

Capped off the larger white and pink wires. They appear “ok” so I decided to leave them in the area in case I ever need them.

I’m replacing the electrical tape with DEI heat sleeves and locking it in place with heat shrink.

Woke up early and got out to the garage by 6am. I wanted to get some work done while everyone was sleeping and before it got hot outside. 90+ temps with humidity make the garage no fun..

Wrapped up the wiring cleanup project and got the new fuel line made up. I sleeved it with a piece of DEI Fire Sleeve. That combined with getting the wires secured should be a major safety improvement. I also went back over all of the AN connections and loosened/re-tightened them 3-4 times as Greg suggested.

My wife asked me the kind of question a guy just can’t say no to! Do you wanna come home and……………… take the Camaro out?!

We were blessed with an amazing 45 degree December day. I really thought the nice weather days were gone till spring. Forecast for later in the week is in single digit lows and nothing above freezing in the foreseeable future…

When she first texted me this afternoon I was about to make a parts delivery to one of our jobsites and didn’t have anyone else to make the run. She said the car didn’t fire at first so I ran home to check it out. Really thought the cruise wasn’t gonna happen since this was the first drive since I redid the wiring and replaced the fuel line. Thankfully it fired right up for me. I watched it for a bit while it warmed up. All systems looked good so gave Beth the green light to head out while I made the delivery. When I got back to the office she stopped by to pick me and we went for a nice cruise in the country and around town. Made a couple “spirited” pulls and had a some fun as well. Definitely a great way to spend a nice afternoon with my wife!

Still have a project punch list to wrap up this winter but thankfully nothing that will stop us from driving it next year.

Here’s to a short winter! Spring can’t come soon enough!

Snapped a quick pic when she pulled up to our office.

Thanks Casey! This car has been quite the journey. I’ve enjoyed learning new things as we made the changes. I definitely learned things take longer than you first think. I’m glad the project list is winding down and Beth can start putting some miles on the car again. I'll start on either my Impala or another project next.

Beth absolutely loves the dark blue. Even bought matching nail polish. She really gets a kick out of cruising alone. People get excited seeing a cool old car driving around town. They’re always surprised it’s a girl driving. Then their minds are blown when they find out it’s a manual trans and has a 600hp BBC under the hood.

Yeah, -20+ wind chills can really make a guy reconsider his living arrangements!

Too funny ED! My sister bombs around in the '69 Camaro - big blower sticking out of the hood -- and people are blown away it's a SHE driving…

AND she's not afraid to get on it!

Well -- not like WE do but she'll still get after it.

That car is an attention getter for sure! You did a nice job sprucing it up.

Beth said she had some fun with the car before picking me up. I was a bit nervous sending her out alone since we hadn't put miles on after fixing the electrical/fuel leak problem. I am extremely happy that it was a successful voyage. Having the car ready for her to hop in and go have some fun is exactly what I wanted to accomplish.

I just saw this thread for the first time....awesome work! Love your dedication on working through the gremlins that we deal with in this hobby. And I know it was a few years ago, but hope your trip to The Big Isle was a blast....Saddle road had a new bypass opened a few months ago that eliminates most of the "sketchy" areas.:excited:

Thanks Joe! This morning I looked back through this thread. We really did a lot of work on the car I certainly learned a lot! The Camaro is running fairly good other than needing the battery replaced it fires right up and is fun to drive. It does have an exhaust leak coming from the driver side header. It stinks up the cabin with exhaust fumes so we try to drive with the windows down…. I have a new set of headers to tackle some time but it will take redoing exhaust piping so I'm holding off for now. There’s also some binding in one of the steering knuckles I need to figure out. The wheel doesn’t like to stay in the center and kind of “jumps” either left or right. No real updates to post about as of now. I still have about 10 other items on the punch list to wrap up. :whenitsdone:

Our baby (Jacob) referenced earlier in the thread is now 3 ˝ and is joined by his little brother Alex who’s 3 months. Time sure flies! Jacob loves riding in the Camaro. We strap his car seat in the center of the back seat and throw on some ear protection. He says “mommy’s Camaro is really fast!”.
