I think we are far enough along on this one to make it interesting for everyone, well maybe not everyone after all its not a Camaro.
This is a genuine non orig numbers GT 500 Shelby and we are gunna cut into it, I can here the purists screaming now!.
this will run a shelby alloy 427 block with blue thunder heads heads and TWM/Borla injection 6 speed tremec Magnum,TCP suspension front and rear, Baer 6s brakes, the customer has asked us to remake all the Original shelby fibreglass in metal.and end up with a fit and finish to rival his high end cars.
Bit of a challenge, lets see. Sorry if this is abit boring to start with.

This will be a great project, I'll be watching this build for sure! I'm a Shelby purist, but I can't help to think of what would have happened if Shelby had his hands on our modern technology when he were building these cars. This will be a fine example of that mystery!

Really cool! I am a huge fan of the '67-'68 fastback body style, especially '68 GT500's. I see in the rendering though, that your going from the '68 Shelby nose to the '67?

How many hours do you think you will have into copying the fiberglass sheby parts in metal? I am just wondering how it would compare to buying the fiberglass. Great work. Scott.

We will have around 150-200 hrs in them, dont forget that this is a genuine GT 500 so it already had all the original glass pieces just the customer wanted more of a 67 style front and no glass on the car only steel to give it more of a hand built, one off feel.

OK update time, fabbed up the front last couple of weeks, lengthened the hood
3 inchs and fabbed a functional hood scoop, decided after welding on the front half of the hood (repro piece of CR***P) that I would fab the scoop in aluminum and bond it onto the hood.
finished fabbing the front fascia, next Im onto the lower valance/ air dam then on its wheels to have a look outside at its profile.

Great thread.
Can you tell us a little about your alum/steel bonding process ?
What product are you using?
I assume you form a flat flange on the bottom of the scoop and that's what you are bonding to the hood surface.
How does this bonding cope with the different expansion rates of alum and steel ?
I've often wanted to join alum to steel on body work but was always concerned with this.
Great car although I much prefer the '68 Shelby front end to the '67 front end.
Thanks for all the photos I always learn so much from these well documented builds.

The adhesive we use is part of the lord fusor range it is specifically designed for bonding materials with different temperature expansion rates i.e fibreglass to metal, aluminum to metal etc ,most of the new cars now days are bonded.

its a 60-61 model, been going on the build for a couple of years,C4 front suspension,5.4 Aussie GT Modular engine,5 speed auto(soon to be 6 speed manual) 4 link rear, will have the complete GT interior grafted into it as well.
I thought about doing a project post on this one but didnt know whether anyone would really "click" with it.let me know if you want and Ill make it Happen.

Love to see you start one on the Studie! Appears to be a GT Hawk? A buddy stuffed a 560 Caddy motor in clean all original one 20+ years ago, made for a real sleeper.

Big Hold up on the motor at the moment, so I cant get the Engine fitted and do the fab necessary to fabb exhaust etc,So rather than having a no show for a few weeks I sent it over to the Bodyshop and had the boys gap and smooth it up and get it to poly primer,Back to My side this week to Fab up the lower Airdam stone panel.

Looks like 5 million bucks.
Carroll Shelby would certainly be impressed with this one, sadly he'll never get to see your craftsmanship. Exceptional!

So much amazing workmanship on this car.
I notice you modified the radiator support so that it is removable. I was thinking of a similar modification.
You have any info on how you did this. I'm assuming you cut the piece out then boxed the open edges then drilled holes and bolt and nut to fasten or welded a threaded nut to screw in to.
Looks like you may have a counter sunk bolt going through the top.
Did you use thicker metal to box it in? guessing two fasteners per side?
thanks for any info, Mike
