Hi guys, I am building a 67 Camaro for a great guy, Kevin Mahler, he is a lineman for the power company here in California. He works in adverse conditions and makes sure the lights stay on. He wants this car to be a tribute to his trade, hence the name "Livewire". After a teardown and metalwork, the car has been transported to Luke Mau at L&H Kustoms for bodywork and a "mile deep" paint job. Luke will be posting pics, so stay tuned. Have a few specs.
383 small block
Tremec TKO 600
Ford 9 inch
DSE minitub and subframe connectors
DSE leaf springs
DSE roll bar
Baer 14 inch 6p
Gen 2 upper and lower control arms
Pro billet components spindles and steering arms
Hotchkis swaybars and front springs
Rushforth Livewire wheels
2300 watt Exponent stereo system w/Pioneer deck
Porsche Meteor grey paint
Thanks for looking. It will be a cool build, Rich.:lateral:

Ok here are some pics from last week when I was down at Rich's shop picking up the car.

Here's Rich hard at work cleaning up the body seams before welding

The car is fairly rust free as it had spent its entire life in the San Jose area.

Got the doors stripped down and had them along with the front fenders media blasted today before the freezing rain comes. The doors are in really nice shape and just one little surprise. who ever did the car previously they ground through the front of the door skin and then just "mudded" over it. nothing a little welding cant fix.
then got the lower trim holes filled along with the door lock holes as it will have power locks.
Ok heres some more pics

I guess I'll need to start a build thread on DaveO's 69(Project Grey matter) in the background.

Get the engine monday that is being built by Cres Martines at Gilroy Automotive Machine. It is a 383 with Scat forged crank and 6 inch rods and Icon pistons. Dave Crower came up with a cool 4/7 swap solid lifter cam and lightweight valvetrain. Heads are Dart 200's that came with the original 327 configuation. Should put out 475 horse 470 tourque according to Crower. Subframe has been welded and powdercoated ready for reassembly with the trick Gen II upper and lower control arms, and L&H Kustoms/ Pro billet components spindles and bump steer correcting steering arms.:unibrow:

Well were back on the car making progress on the bodywork stage. Had another project we had to get finished up. Plans are to have the car painted by the first week in March. It will be painted 09 Porsche Meteor grey. Here are a few photos

Welded up the hood pins holes. This hood was for Rich's car "Pro Vintage" but the owner wanted an SS hood and Rich wanted a flat hood. It was already pretty straight and had a nice paint job on it so it was a great base to block it flat.

WOW :wow: :wow: :wow: that is one nice camaro. I did notice that you welded in a shock cross member (like DSE) and went with the torque arm, how much more wheel travel did that provide? Different shocks too ... yes?

I set up the car for the Detroit Speed leaf set up, hence the crossmember. I mounted it for the option of going Quadra Link. We are using the Speed Tech torque arm because it a cool design and its different. Just as we are using Gen II front suspension. Special shocks are replacing what you see here. I will post pics when we get em on. Wheel travel is about 2 1/4" at that height. :thankyou:

I love the Gen II stuff, its very cool. Upper arms have bronze bushings, lowers have spherical bearings. I recently used this on a Chevelle and it rides like a dream. The wheels and tires are off of One Lap Camaro. The front is 18 x 9 with a very deep backspace of 6 3/8. I have L&H Kustoms spindles now which are awesome pieces however the wheel has prompted a change to Ride Tech true turn. The tires are 275s. Yes, a limited turn radius. :thankyou:

Did you mod the fuel tank in any way for the mini tubs?
I don't see trimmed corners. :headscratch:

Negative, we may upgrade tank in the future. The exhaust dumps to the ground so it was not necessary to mod the tank.

I talked with Rich last week about the Gen2 control arms  ! I really like the way this 67' is turning out, only thing I'd have done different is a LS engine, maybe T56. I guess I'll have to wait a little while longer to see the rest of Rich's  on this one!

Thanks guys! This car was a fun build. We did the Optima gig at Laguna Seca and had a blast. The car was flawless all weekend. Drove it there and back. Checked oil and tire pressure. The only tool chest was an ice chest full of ice cold ones! We recently did a photo shoot for Chevy Hi Performance, so look for it sometime this year. Mary Pozzi drove the car once in the autocross and had a very competitive time, so we know it has it in it. Kevin drove it Extremely consistent which was awesome for his first time ever doing anything with a car. He is hooked now so we should see more of him and his car. Special thanks to Fox Shocks, they make all the difference in the world. Thanks to Dave and Mary Pozzi for their driving instructor services and Gilroy Automotive Machine for the great engine. Luke for the nice paint and Kevin for letting me run with my vision. :thankyou:
