OK guys- I'm starting to get my 67 Camaro back on the road after an eight year garage stint. Right now the car is stock front end with Hotchkiss coils and Herb Adams shocks. It does have factory disc. Of cousre I want great big brakes and an aftermarket subframe but I am the no budget for car parts guy. So I rememberd that the Stielow's Red Witch had c4 corvette spindles on it. Hmmm.....A quick trip to Ebay says I can buy theses spindles for about 100 per side. Then I can get much better brakes for almost nothing. I want to know how and why Stielow chose these spindles for that car. I assume that they are also taller than the Camaro spindles making the car handle better too. Are there any other advatages to c4 spindles? Why haven't a thousand other 1st gen Camaro owners done this swap? Anybody know what is involved in doing this swap? Thanks for any help and insight. Jason

Because it isn't remotely a bolt on affair. Everything needs to be changed to adapt them- from ball joints, to steering arm location. The amount of fab work required to make it work is not worth the money spent.
If you want an OEM quality forged aluminum spindle that does bolt on, Speedtech and the AFX spindle are the best option for the money.

Make sure to get the Tall Spindles.
You can then bolt on C5 brakes. (you will need at least a 17" rim to fit C5 brakes)

Sorry, I meant to say--get the tall ATS spindles from speedtech.
If you have questions on C5 brakes, call Tobin at Kore3.

While I clearly understand that the AFX spindles do everything you could want out of a spindle, the 1100$ price tag is way out of my price range. That's why I was looking for info on how to use c4 spindles. I know they are not a 'bolt on' but I was hoping to discuss it with someone who has actually tried them. What REALLY needs to be done? Does it require a differrent ball joint or can you re-ream the holes in the c4 spindle? Isn't the Corvette a front steer car and the Camaro a rear steer? Were the spindles swaped side to side to put the steering arm in the correct relation? If the geometry of the steering arms are wrong, can it simply be cut off and re welded? Is there another factory spindle that will work? These are the kind of things I was hoping to discuss. Thanks again, Jason

What everyone will tell you that the work required to modify a C4 spindle would not only exceed the $1100 price, it would not benefit you at all as far as handling...to modify it further would make it an AFX spindle but with dated bearing pack and a limited brake choice range. Just because it fits will not make it right.
These guys are not giving you a hard time. This is not a new idea and has been discussed so many times on different boards too.
If you really want to try email Mr Steilow. He can give yo the run down but it will echo all that was said here.

Caveat: I don't know anything more about this company than the information I found while doing a search.
L&H Kustoms is coming out with a set of spindles that, though not as advanced as the AFX spindles, they are less money.

From their website: "Pro Billet™ Tall Spindles. Designed to fit the 64-72 A body, 67-69 F body, and 68-74 X body platforms, machined out of ultra strong, lightweight 6061 T6511 aircraft spec aluminum with an ultra strong billet spindle shaft machined from 4130 Chromoly steel."
Merry Christmas!

You Would be WAYYYYY better off to drop the idea of using Corvette C4 spindles. there are so many things that are different that it would end up costing you more that 1100 to install them.
if money is the issue this is what i would do.
stock spindles, guldstrand mod. this will get you everything you need and not complicate your life or waste your time and money.
there are many good reasons the C4 spindles are not used on this combination.
you asked the ?

The time when Mark used the C4 spindle was way back when there were allmost nothing pro touring parts available for these cars. But i do agree with you. I would be cool to make it work. I have allways liked the looks of the C4 suspension. You can cut the front streer tie rod arm away and bolt new one under the bearing pack bolts. Offcourse you need to design and machine one.

Have you looked into using taller ball joints?

After talking with Marcus at SC&C, I did the Guldstrand mod, Taller upper ball joints and taller outer tie rod ends to help eliminate bumpsteer with stock spindles. Check out Dave Pozzi he ran a bunch of numbers on different scenairo's with tall ball joints. http://www.pozziracing.com/power_performance_motorspo.htm

Tyler,
I forgot which AFX I want (I know again) there for the 69 with the GW upper and lower control arms with GW's coil over setup.
