So our front door on our house needs stripped and refinished, but there is also some damage at the bottom corner. Last winter the door froze shut and when it was opened it pulled outer layer of wood away (see pics). The rest of the door is in pretty good shape and it matches the side-lights so I'm hoping that I can repair it. I'm pretty handy, but don't have a ton of woodworking experience.

I'm pretty comfortable stripping and refinishing the door, but I am looking for the best way to repair the damage.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Since the door isn't solid wood, I'd recommend getting a kick plate that matches your door hardware. I'm no expert on refinishing wood, but I can't imagine you'd ever get it to look uniform again since the piece with the woodgrain pattern is broken off.

Brandon,
That door is trashed, first off it took the veneer completely off and second its out of date by 15yrs:D Looking at the hinges from the photo its a prehung unit (5/8 radius hinge butt) You pay the shipping and I'll send you a front door. Most likely I have what your looking for at our shop. PM me if your interested
