I think Gaetano( track junky) would give everyone at optima the most fit's.He's flat super fast. His car is as close to a stock suspension as it gets.It would be nice to see a car like Gaetano's run against full after market chassis parts that everyone else will be running. We might find out that some of us just wasted a bunch of money.I know Todd want's to go real bad.Scott you always make real good choices,So pick the best person who YOU think will make the best showing.Gaetano,Todd,

Thanks to the few that gave me a vote. Todd's been around here alot longer then me and certainly deserves the vote.
I will say though, my main reason for wanting to go is to find the ultimate suspension set up. The only way to do that is to run my stock(except for upper control arms) but tuned set up against skilled guys like Finch, Stielow, Tucker, Parrott(whom I dont think was invited but should have been to display his suspension set up) and Todd with his G bar set up.
On another note, even if I was invited this year I couldn't afford to go. I spent too much money testing and tuning the car this year and the wife has cut me off.
A shout out to my sponser "Dream Speed Motors". They made me 8 seconds faster at Buttonwillow and 6 seconds(could have been faster, only got one session in on a cold track)at Thunderhill.

Very cool of the Optima team to do this... thinking it may be to build up some goodwill after the late notice-no spectator ruling perhaps. Either way, kudos to them for allowing this entry.
That being said, I better vote for Todd since I am staying at his house! :woot: :D
I would love to see Gaetano mix it up with those big boys too - I think he and Todd would give em all fits.

Yep, Todd was my first thought when I saw the thread. As Rybar said it just seems like a no brainer on such short notice.
Van B, I also think you would have also been a good choice because your car is great and you are always respectful member here of which I am sure factor's in Scott choice:thumbsup: I wished more members could run their cars at this event because honestly I have went the last two years and some of the cars selected IMO are just show car seat fillers that don't really belong. Todd, Van and Track Junky's type of cars are what I want to see...oh wait that's right we can't seem them anymore as spectators:mad:

Payback gets my vote--especially since I am staying with him----evidently in the garage--but still.
Top this off with Dave, Todd and I going to dinner with Greg---man, what else could be better? (Todd or Greg paying)

Frank, I am just as anxious to put this ultimate suspension set up to rest as you are. All of you that have followed my threads on the PT forum know that my ultimate goal has been to see how a stock suspension measures up and to see which set up is going to put me down. I have posted 3 track days at Buttinwillow this year trying to get Bad Penny there but unfortunately Rupp had been busy with making changes.
Everybody keeps pounding me about it being the driver, but get a bunch of skilled drivers together with different set ups and that makes it even keel in that respect. The only thing seperating us from there would be the suspension set ups.
Bottom line, I need proof of the best set up so that I know which direction to go with my car. I dont want to be spending hard earned money in the wrong direction.

Wow!! Talk about car enthusiasts that want to see a knock down, drag out, battle of the muscle cars. Way to represent guys!!!
Unfortunately I am about 25k into the car this year starting the build just last May so you can see why the wife wants to cut me off. Hell, I thought I was going to be living in my car trailor for awhile.
In addition, aside from travel, food, and lodging expenses I still would need the correct tread wear tires which I am afraid would put me over the top.
I cant even begin to describe the extent you guys will go to see some hot track action and how that makes me feel.

OK guy's, my head is spinning. I'm having a hard time with the idea of excepting cash from you guys. I think I should gracefully bow out.
Chris at JCG and Jon at Drvers Inc, I would be proud to represent you guys on my car if the tire offer is still good. My front fenders have room along with a possible windshield banner. Any size just as long as it looks good. I will be hitting all of the NASA Time Trial events next season which should give you guys some decent exposure. I will also work at winning my way into Optima for next year.
In addition, the guys at DreamSpeedMotors also feel that we would need more time to tune with the 200 tread wear tires.
Pappy Fain, Greg Weld, and 5280/4, you guys are solid and I cant tell you how much I appreciate the cash offer and I'm not to proud to except the offer but it just doesn't feel right.

Gaetano,
Don't look at the cash as a gift, it is an investment in the spirit of competition. I want to see how the various suspension systems compare on the road course. I don't expect you to do as well with the cones -- not your thing -- and the really big brake cars will perform well in the braking competition, but its the road course times I am really interested in. You are the old school "missing link" with a reputation for speed. It wouldn't be right for you not to be represented. Good luck with a selection.

Here's the deal guys ---- it's SCOTTS decision who goes and represents HIS website... so no matter how much we beg or coerce and jibe each other.... it's his choice.
I can think of about half a dozen people I'd personally love to see get the opportunity... But some people aren't prepared -- some might not have the time off work (boy am I glad I don't have THAT problem! ) -- some might not have the desire -- and some might not have the finances.
I wrote Scott -- that if he picks someone that does not have the finances -- My offer is good for that person as well i.e., my offer is not limited to Track Junky I threw it out there because HE said his wife was cutting him off (in more ways than one probably!). They don't have to make public announcement about it - or make a big deal out of it etc... I just personally would be happy to help someone - one of us out if he or she needs it in order to step up to this fabulous opportunity.

Somebody should be all over this. It's a serious intense hot rod experience, great people, amazing event- Pro Touring overload! Then there is Sema, if you have never been it will blow you away. Even with mechanical failure I had a blast at the Optima. Contact Scott represent!! He'll pick a Bad Ass car for sure.
The chance to lay a smack down on Bad Penny, come on!!! ha ha

Can I run for both sites? :unibrow:
I think I'm starting to see your angle. Wouldn't that be like running as two separate entries, giving you more of an opportunity to win, no?
Seriously though, congrats on the invite Todd!
I'd like to see Gaetano run. I'm not sure how Optima would feel about it, but if the community can get him in, that would be great. As Scott said, it is probably a once in a lifetime experience, take advantage of it. Gaetano, you might not be able to get in again, and if you're more concerned about learning than winning the whole thing you shouldn't hesitate to go.
I've had so many socal people from the community offer to help get my car to sema, I feel like I need to pay if forward. I'd happily donate to the cause getting Gaetano, or anyone else there as well.

Lots of activity since I last looked before bed last night. Telly V.'s trailer offer makes the numbers work for me, I think. Must be my quiet and reserved nature that is keeping guys from throwing money at me.
Now to convince mama that a week in Vegas is a great idea while she stays home alone with our daughter.
I might have an extra quart of oil to donate, .
Being a long time member on this site should account for something IMO.

Although I'm cool w Scott making a choice, I suggest he take maybe the top three guys that throw their hat in the ring and put 'em up on a new thread/poll and give the members 24 hours to vote.
Between Carl, Van and Gae this is a 'can't miss' as one will get selected and our community will represent.

yeah both van and carls cars are kick ass! hell i even loved vans car with that big azz hood ! but i do think there needs to be some fair way of deciding who gets it and not by a vote. a coin sounds good to me just dont use a stinking penny!!!:D
btw- i dont think it was a popularity vote Van when it came to gaestano going it was just that whole idea of a stock style suspension car running with a experienced that know that specific car very well. i know that was my reasoning for want to see him attend and it seemed like others also.

My vote goes towards Jeff. Hes got a great set up and experienced. Maybe Im a little bias:D , but Id like to see it go to a local fanatic here in WI. or more or less the midwest. Plus it would be a great oppurtunity for him and Telly to hook up for the tour down there.
Either way its a tough call towards representation for Lat G considering the contenders play a part on both Lat G and Pro touring. Question is which one is more dedicated to this site.
After a lot of discussions and deliberations, Jeff Van Buren will be taking the invite.
Edit... CarlC will be taking Jeff's spot as Jeff has elected to not proceed.

Thanks everybody and especially thanks to Scott for thinking enough of me and my car to choose me to represent Lateral-G. I have been PM ing and talking to Scott since yesterday morning and have had a lot of deep thought about whether to accept or to have him move on to Carl or Gaetano. Either would have done him proud. I only hope that I can fill the shoes.
I need to get my head into the autocross and speed stop challenge. At Road America (my home track) I was able to place 5th in the road course behind Kyle Tucker, Ryan Matthews, Brian Finch and Jeff Schwartz. Stielow, Finch, Tucker and I am sure numerous others that I am not thinking of, will be tough. It is an honor just to be selected.
Todd, I hope I don't need the tools or shop space, but I will be sure to take you up on it if I do.
The 2nd toughest part of the decision was how to get the car out there. Telly V has access to a two car trailer and can haul mine with his, but it is not enclosed. I am still open to suggestions regarding enclosed transport from Wisconsin or the Chicago area to and from Vegas as I do not have the time available to me to trailer it out and back myself. If anyone has any reasonably priced options for me, please PM me.
Spending the money on transport, hotel, airfare, etc. was a tough sale with the wife. She is being a good sport, but I am sure I am going to hear about if for three weeks before I go. I am sure I will have to do a bunch of a$$ kissing up until and after I am back.
Thanks again, and I will try not to disappoint!

Well Alrighty Then!
Jeff, I wish things would have worked out for you to attend. No blowing smoke, just a sincere belief that it would have been great for you to represent everyone here. I'll do my best to make as good a showing as you would have.
The car is off to Magnuson on Monday to have a tune done. In true hot-rodder fashion I put a new TVS blower on the car right after Jeff accepted. She's running well but Drew will work his magic to fix the small bugs and make her purr.
I can use some help/advice on how best to handle a few logistical matters.
For those that are attending OUSCI with a car, how are you handling the logistics for Friday? I'm late into the game and am looking for some help on how to move vehicles (I'm trailering to L.V.) to Pahrump. If anyone is making a similar tow vehicle move on Friday from L.V. to Pahrump I could really use a ride.
Is there any place to store a car trailer in Pahrump during SEMA?
Anyone have a line on a place to stay around Pahrump? I have no plans, and rooms are short, for Friday or Saturday night.
Finally, I have not heard back from FM3 yet but is there a place at SEMA for competitors to display their cars this year? Last year they were displayed in the area in the far corner of the Hot Rod Alley. For those that displayed last year, when did you need to be in Vegas?
Thanks for the support guys. It means a lot to know that there are others in my corner willing to help.

Great choice---having flown with Hollywood, I can attest to his icy cold unflinching no fear of speed. He's also great doing duets off the Grease soundtrack on Karyoke tuesday nights.
See you out there Hollywood.

I've only done Karyoke once. My boss and I were in a Korean Karyoke bar with customers in Maui about 10 years ago. As you can imagine, we were the minority. After plenty of liquid libations, he and I sang "Play That Funky Music White Boy." We laughed our butts off as everyone in the bar cheered us on.
Hey, the Dos Equis guy called me last night. I was honored by his call until he said "I've heard of this Dr. Rennert fellow. Can he come to my private SEMA party?" I felt so used.

Carl, I should have room in my trailer but I believe we have to drive the cars from SEMA to Pahramp. But I am willing to give you a hand in anyway I can. Just let me know what you need exactly. Thanks Curt

Show 'em how we do it in SoCal...
If you need trailer storage, I've got a place in Henderson about 10 mins from the strip.

Hey Carl,
I have room at my place for your trailer if needed. Go read the official rules, your car will need to be at SEMA on Monday I believe and a road ralley is part of the event after Sema. The Silverton would be a perfect place to stay if you can't find a spot in Pahrump. I bet you could find a place to park the trailer as well.

I wasn't too clear in my original message, so let's see if I can get my thoughts across.
Right now it looks like I will trailer the car to arrive LV early Monday. So, I need to be able to drop the car off the trailer and get it into the Coral on Monday (thanks Todd, I forgot about that paragraph.) Todd, are you planning on driving your car from your house to SEMA on Monday? If so, you need to get back home. Perhaps I can follow you in my truck/trailer, we put both cars in the building, and then we ride in the truck/trailer back to your house. Or, I drop the car off the trailer at your place, we drive/drop at SEMA, and get ride back to your place? Let me know your thoughts. I'll PM you my cell number if you would like to discuss.
Since I'm driving the car from SEMA to Pahrump I need to figure a way to get my truck/trailer to Pahrump on Friday, MAYBE. This is where the logistics get a bit sticky depending upon where I stay. Let's see how things flow over the next day or two before getting neck-deep.
Curt, are you staying in Pahrump on Friday/Saturday? If so, and you have the room, I may take you up on storing the car in your trailer at night. If it's at all a problem, just say so. I do not want to be in the way.

Carl, I am staying with Todd--I can drive the truck and trailer to the track for you. Dave can follow in my car. We are all attending the event.

Thanks for the phone call Doug. I really appreciate it.
Thank you to everyone for the encouragement. It's going to be fun!
Blake, I'm with you on the departure time. Two hours to go five miles from SEMA to the freeway is a good test, eh?

Carl --
First - congratulations!
Second -- True story. Some buddies and I were doing the Spring Mountain driving lessons... and upon checking into the Best Western one buddy asks the petrified geriatric desk clerk -- What's the major industry in Pahrump besides casinos? Her prompt response "hookers".
I thought I was going to pee my pants. She was dead serious.

I spent a lot of time soul searching over the weekend and came to the conclusion that it did not make a lot of sense for me to spend the money it would have taken to make the event. My wife was not in favor either. She stresses when I travel anyway and suffers from migraines and has been having a lot of trouble with them lately. Add to that a two year old running around demanding constant attention. Needless to say, timing just was not right, especially with fairly short notice.
I fully expected to get a lot of crap from you guys for turning down a once in a lifetime opportunity. Thanks to everyone for not rubbing it in. Thanks also to Scott for first offering me the opportunity and for his graciousness when I had to back out.
I wish I were a west coast guy right now. Best of luck to Carl. Scott made a great choice. At least you have the right car. A red Camaro and it's not a 69!

Yep, I'm driving mine down that day and I could hitch a ride back home with you and you could drop the trailer at my place. I'm undecided on whether I'll take my trailer out to the event Saturday morning.
