View Full Version : Should I cut this metal out?

I actually have two questions, the first, as the title says, I'm wondering if I should cut this metal out or if it will be okay. I found a few spot on the windshield channel where it is pitting like this. There are a couple spots that are obvious and need to be cut out. Is there anything that I can use to replace the stock mounting tabs for the chrome trim if I replace a bunch of the metal?

I'm going to cut out this part, but that's the tab I'm talking about.

This is what the metal looks like where I'm wondering about.

I'm also wondering about some rust in the drip rails. I don't plan on smoothing them or I wouldn't be too worried, but I'm wondering what I can do about the bit of rust that's at the bottom since I plan on leaving them. I will be putting sealer back in.

I believe they make screws that take the place of those moulding studs, as far as the drip rails, If your going to smooth them, I wouldn't worry too much about it, that's about how mine look, but I've got rust issues on the dash and firewall area.

Yes, I would remove any rusted arears. As for the trim clip studs. You can use a stud welder to replace them. Just mark the location on the roof panel so you will know were they were in relation to the window channel.

Thanks for all the replies guys. My plan was to cut out the ugly metal, but just thought I'd check and see if everyone agreed. As for the tabs, I will likely use these http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/67-68-69-Camaro-moulding-clip-screws-studs-1967-1968-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem563fbd18e8QQitemZ37043 6544744QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccesso ries#ht_806wt_1167 as I don't plan on buying a new welder for one car worth of tabs.

Yeah, rust holes should be fixed. ;)

Those screw clips work fine. Get a few extra, because they're easy to strip.
