This is the drivers side rear corner of my 69 firebird project. The previous owner installed new full quarters and left the rear tail panel original. The quarter panel lip doesn't fit flush with the tail panel at the seem. The tail panel sits nearly flush at the bottom, and sits in about 1/4" at the top. The passenger side looks ok and I plan to fill in the seem with weld. I would like to do the same with the driver's side, but the uneven corner has me baffled.

since you're planning on welding the seams smooth, cut taillight panel along the seam, line it up flush with quarter and weld, there's not much else to do,looks like that taillight panels has some rust issues that were covered up with filler, maybe it would be a good idea to replace that panel.

Cut vertical at the seam and then horizontal at the body line that is under the bumper? That's what I was thinking anyway. I did some spot checking with the grinder and some 50 grit and the panel is in good shape (very thin layer of filler and straight (hit it with a 12" sanding block and some 80 grit looking for low spots). Thanks!
