Hi guys don't you just hate recalls! Such a pain in the a$$ to deal with . Well I just got a doosie. I got a letter in the mail they re called my hip implant. How do you like me now! I can't believe it. They re called them from the market because they are putting metal shaving in to the blood stream and are fracturing some peoples thiegh bone. The worst ones with the most trouble are the complete hip replacements Which is t he one I have. lucky me. I can't believe it, I'm stunned. They already have a lawyer on TV offering to take cases for this. As if building a new car and a garage isn't enough.

Nice, how does that work? They cover the hospital bills to "re-do" the surgery? What a PITA. I feel for you brother...

That sucks Wayne. Sorry to hear that. How can a manufacturer be so careless as to overlook something like that?
Best of luck brother. Stay strong!

If you don't mind me asking-what brand of implant do you have?

Wow Wayne! Man oh man... that's a tough one!

Hey --- Stay positive! Maybe you get the garage as a "benefit" of going through this?

Damn, Wayne!

I was always amazed by those implants...and the one in the recall is metal-on-metal bearing surfaces in the ball/socket - You'd think, "that can't be good" (?).

You would think that they would make one component out of metal and the other out of, say, ceramic. I'm sure there are just a whole bunch of engineering considerations and conflicts involved with a piece of hardware being inside of a human body....crazy stuff.

Well maybe they can put a Zerk fitting on the side of your hip, Wayne?

Wayne, GOD bless you brother. I work at an orthopedic surgery center part time. I see first hand how hard on the body hip replacements are. Also, the rehab that comes along with it. I hate to be this way buddy, but get in on the class action lawsuit if there is one. Don't let them off the hook that easy. As if the manufacturers make everything okay by letting you have another hip surgery due to their negligence.

How do you know they were negligent? What if all their testing showed no indication that this could be a problem? Don't get me wrong, I think the manufacturer should be responsible for the time needed to heal, and for all of the medical bills, but why should anyone win the lottery because a company thought something was perfected when it wasn't? Keep that sort of thing up and sooner or later no one will dare manufacture such items, and then who do we sue?

Thanks guys. They looked at the metal/ceramic combination but they are prown to cracking. Im a big guy so the doctor figured this one would be better. I don't blame them they wouldn't have put them in if they knew. Atleast I hope they didn't know. Money makes companies do risky things.
Atleast I can sit here and watch my foundation going in for my garage. It keeps my mind off everything else.

Hang in there, and dream of the nice new garage!

Besides, it could be worse, my ex-girlfriend's father had a heart valve recalled many years ago...
