hey Vince, thanks.

Gaetano, the only thing left is EVERYTHING

Evil Genius needs to do the 3-link and finish hanging the pedals. after that I can get it back and start prepping it for paint.

I've figured out whose going to build the motor. need to pull the trigger on that soon but it's a big check :(

I need someone to buy my damn z06

I know what you mean, hope it sells soon. I'd like to sell my boat but the economy is narrowing down perspective buyers. I haven't even bothered throwing it on the market.

finally got the car back yesterday. the 3-link is done! I've got a ton of work to do to prep the "chassis" for paint. also, I sold the vette! so I pulled the trigger on the race motor!

Good choice on speed-o-motive, I know a couple of guys, one with a blown small block and had nothing bad to say about them.

thanks Bryce.

Gaetano - yes the limit is still 9.5:1 for HP, torque is 9:1

ok, got the insides painted. now it's time to get this thing assembled. other info:

1. I'm having speed o motive down in west covina, ca build the motor. I got that started after I sold the Z06. motor will be ready in about 3 weeks.

2. bought a used 9" diff/carrier off craigslist. it's a posi but seems the clutches are worn. guess I need to rebuild or spring for a better diff and just use this for the carrier.

3. got the lexan windshield I ordered. will need trimming before it will fit.

things should start moving more quickly now (I hope)...

basically finished the dash and hung the fenders/hood on the car. need to fab some kind of grille setup. Don't know when I'm going to be ready to race. I'd love to make the March date but we'll have to see how things go.

oh, and not sure what thickness the aluminum is. it's what the dirt modified guys use for body panels...

Hey Asif, was wondering how things were going with you. Glad to see your just about there.

A new director took over AI and word is he changed some rules and pissed some people off so alot of them pulled out. That and the economy isn't helping either. In AIX some of the best guys pulled out because it turned into a horsepower reigns game and only the guys with the money to spend are still running.

Most guys from those classes went to CMC2 or Time Trials.

Glad to hear your shooting for mid November.

I'm switching over to NCRC for my track days due to costs. They have just started a Time Trial program if you are interested. I wont run Time Trials program but will run most of my track days with them since you can run any class with them and still get lap timing as long as you are running an AMB transponder.

Lookingt forward to seeing how that thing runs, good luck.

Doug Gale runs Track Masters and he is very cool. He lives in my neck of the woods over in Granite Bay.
I've run with them maybe a handfull of times.
The Track Masters guys are very fast. Not something I expected when I first started running with them since they are not like a NASA or SCCA type group and the variation of types of cars will surprise you. The only bummer is they dont do lap timing.

So your taking the recently built Javeline?

Hope it stays dry for you. Keep the shiny side up

I've been checking the NCRC site and it looks like there is still plenty of room in open group for the 23rd. Need to be sure it isn't going to rain. If weather looks good I should be there.

As far as the 8th goes, It's hard to pass up a free track day especially in your own backyard but I need to dig up some longer studs with the correct knurl size for my front hubs because the mounting pad on the new wheels is too thick for the existing wheel studs.

cars been tech'd and log book issued!
I have a rookie license!

got the car out of paint last Thursday and jumped on a test session at Infineon on Friday (weather was awesome). it was just a 3hr afternoon session and I had a few issues that kept me off track for some of it (plus there were a number of black flags and even a red flag).

I was thinking about your vibration....

Do you have a lot of body lift at high speed? If so you may have a pinion angle change that is leading to vibration. It would be interesting if you get the same vibration on a chassis dyno.

asifnyc
02-15-2012, 10:03 PM
hey Bryce,

I did think about a chassis dyno and am looking into that. my pan hard bar is ABOVE my axle and people have commented that it is not ideal and could/would cause lift.

here's a pic of the car leaning... looks like a lot to me but what do I know?

nice job.
Ideally you want the rear roll center as low as possible, however that generally goes with higher spring rates to keep the car balanced.
How long is your phb? center to center? The center of it is the rc of the rear of the car, so you want to get the phb as long as possible to put the rc in the middle of the car,so that the forces on the springs and shocks are even side to side. Thats why watts links are so good for road racing in a stick axle application.
I would never go higher then axle centerline for the phb height, however you will need to stiffen the springs/shocks as you lower the phb or you will just create more of a push.

Very cool write up. I'm tossing the Idea around for an AI car next year as well. Your story has given me a bit of inspiration.

As to your vibration, I had a similar issue, and it ended up being the rear end was junk. Swapped to a new Speedway Engineering unit, new Currie third member, and no more high speed vibes. I know that is probably no what you want to hear, but at a minimum I'd check the rear axle for "trueness" and pic yourself up a second carrier to rebuild. Never hurts to have a spare set of gears around.

Sun

3:25pm qual (20 mins)
5:20pm race (30 mins)

well, I blew the motor at the April Buttonwillow race (missed a shift, spun to 10k)...

took a couple months to get the motor rebuilt and then I was stuck at work all summer. But the rebuilt motor is back in the car and I'm headed back to Buttonwillow for the Oct. race...
