Ive been looking for a shop to spray basecoat/clearcoat on my Nova. Body work is done, its wet sanded and ready to go. I will be doing the cut and buff too. Ive tried several shops, but always get the same results= $4000 and up. My budget is $2000. $1k in materials and a days labor right? Am I expecting too much?

What everyone wants is good, fast, and cheap. Pick two and you might get one of them.

Good luck.

MAACO!

They can't be much worse than most shops that call themselves professionals. :_paranoid

One thing I've learned in this hobby: If you pay someone to do the work, it won't be right. If you do it yourself, it will still not be right, but you'll feel better when it's not perfect.

Everything I've paid someone else to do, has had to be re-done, by paying yet another person...or putting on my big girl panties and doing it myself. :willy:

Make sure the shop has a contract for you to sign! I have two cars in my shop right now that have came from two different shops out of state that could not do the work. Just saying..... not all shops are like that. If you have the bodywork finished why not go ahead and spray the car?

What color? Your going to be hard pressed to even buy the color and clear with the reducers, activators, etc for $2k.

Well I have a newborn baby at home, so spraying in my attached garage would have to be well planned.

Going with dark green. I have a friend who can Dupont near cost.

Yeah, you have a point. Not all are like that, but locally it seems like it is the case. I will likely paint my next car to learn the craft just to say I did it. But someday, I hope to be able to just drop a car off at one of the big boys shops on this site and write a check. We're fortunate to have this site, it keeps us current with some of the best builders in the world. :)

Good luck Nate in whichever direction you go!
