Guys I was wondering will a LS Hummer oil pan have enough clearance for my LS1 swap in my 69 camaro with a stock frame and with a unisteer rack??

There's a good "sticky" on LS1 Tech in the Hybrid/Conversion section that has all of the dimensions for the different LSx pans. The Hummer pan is 7.5" deep vs. 5" for the F-body and LS2/3 Corvette pans. I don't know if either will clear the rack.

They are dangously deep and serious threat of high centering

just went to the garage and compared the measurements to my 96 chevy small block's oil pan that was in the car with the rack and the measurements are almost identical.Looks like it will fit perfectly without any mods.Heres hoping and will let you know this sat when my new drivetrain arrives.Anyone knows if the dimensions of a conventional chevy small block are similar to the LS1 as in where they sit in the frame??? If they are close this will work.I had tons of room with my old engine in there!!!:_paranoid

Sorry Frank what do you mean? Are you meaning ground clearance will be an issue??

Yes, that pan will hang over a inch lower the the engine crossmember which is a disaster looking for a place to happen

I think that is just about one of the worst pans you can use in a first gen.

Ah man I installed the engine and ya it sits way too low for me.Also the pan hits the crossmember and wont allow one of the engine mount thriugh bolts to line up.Back to the drawing board..........
Thanks for all the input guys and anyone know of the best pan to use on a tight budget?? I have access to a buddy that has tons of different LS series pans and a fabricator to message them as required.

I hate to sound like a elitist but I cannot say I know what the budget pan is, but I know it is not that one. We use our Champ pans on everything.

I read somewhere that Hooker plates will work with the F body pan with only a small notch. Do a search on ls1tech.com in the conversions and hybrid section. Those guys over there have tried just about every combo.

Another option might be the CTS-V pan with Hooker plates.

I know I know but I just had to see how bad it would fit for myself.

I did manage to install the LS1 with a stock subframe and a unisteer rear mount rack and fit a stock Fbody oil pan with no mods to it.I was told it wont fit but had to try it for myself.Im stubborn that way:thumbsup:
