View Full Version : Project American Heroes III 1970 Chevelle Sells For $250,000!

Route 66 Motorsports recently finished a 1970 Chevelle, which is the third in a series of souped-up muscle cars built for charity. The Armed Forces Foundation helps and supports the families of injured veterans.

The top seller in Barrett-Jackson's first Orange County auction on Saturday was this very special 1970 Chevy Chevelle. Built by Route 66 Motorsports and chronicled by Super Chevy Magazine, it's known as the Project American Heroes Chevelle, and it brought a cool quarter of a million bucks for the Armed Forces Foundation.

The car itself is a 1970 Chevelle, with an intercooled, supercharged GM Performance Parts LSA engine where you might expect to see an LS5 or LS6 big block. Detroit Speed & Engineering did the suspension, the binders are Baer's new "6P" brake system, power is routed through a TCI Automotive 6x 6-speed 4L80E transmission, and the end result of these and about 30 other component contributors is one badass Chevelle that sold for $250,000 on Saturday afternoon.

Watched that live on speed channel. Really badass car, truely one of a kind.

Since the proceeds went to charity, is that a tax write-off?

You can write off anything higher than the value of the item (in this case the car)..

Dave (who bought the car and last year's car for $500k) does this to support the troops.. a true patriot who cares about our military.

In the three years the Project American Hereos deal has raised over $850,000 for the troops.

Look for those companies that sponsored it and throw a thanks their way for the donations.

The wheels were done by BOZE and were super cool.. each spoke had the logo for a branch of the military near the hoop.. very cool "one off" touch.

Does the entire amount go to the troops? Or does part of it go back to the shop to cover costs?

Either way its a cool cause.

the entire gavel amount (this time $250k) goes to the charity.. the costs to build the car are completely donated by the companies involved like DSE, Route 66, TCI trans, GMPP, Boze, Baer, etc.

Also, Barrett Jackson doesn't charge any fees or buyer/seller commisions on charity cars.

It was an amazing car to build and we are glad we could help our troops...The Armer Forces Foundation is a great charity and we couldn't have done it without the large number of sponors who donated so much!!

We were proud to be apart of this, the car pulled great money for a great cause and everyone should be proud that we can come together in these hard times and help out the ones who really need it. We will always be apart of these kinds of builds when asked it was alot of fun. The room was full of joy when the car hit $100K and went up. Good times
