Who here has taken there car to the track? I am looking into building a new engine for my 73 camaro but would like to know what some of you have done to get where you are now. Kinda like I dont want to reinvent the wheel especialy if it doesnt get me any where.
So what have you run in the quarter mile and with what engine and performance mods to get it there?

so far its went 10.04 at 134. with a 6 year old 355 sbc, and a 150 shot. exploded the converter at half track. would have been quicker. im building a new setup now. 355. t88 turbo, and better converter. should be good for over 1000 at the wheels.

In the street racer, 9.12 / 147mph. Small block 404, pump gas, TH350, 4.10 12 bolt, 300 shot of giggle gas. But something tells me you are asking about ProTouring type cars.

I've never felt so inadequate :_paranoid
[email protected] with a 195,000 mile un-touched bone-stock low-compression 77 400 smallblock, TH350, and 3.08 gears.
New combo should put me in the high-12/low 13 range when it's done this spring... internally stock '95 caprice LT1/4L60, headers, programming, minor bolt-ons, 3000rpm converter, 4.10 posi rear. :willy:

Ran a 12.40 at 114 I think. 2.0+ 60ft time
I run a 383 stroker on pump gas with a th350 and 373 gears. Very streetable
I had no traction and blew the tranny on the last pass. If I had slicks it would have seen 11's in a 4000lb car.
Let me know if you want more info.

Acually any car type will do,
You see I want to build my own engine and would like to run something in the low twelves. I am however building a pro-touring car. But would like for it to run pretty good times in the 1/4 mile mainly because when am I going to find a road course here in south TX. I still want the car to handle well and have all the trates of a pro-touring machine.

well so far ive went 10.04 at 134 and that was on a 6 yr old 355 sbc. and i exploded the tq converter at half track on just a 150 shot. this year ill be comming even harder with a 300 shot, two quick fuel 650s, and more cam. Next season will be a 355 with a t-88 and nos for intercooler cooler.

My old 68 Camaro which was built Back in 92 ran 12.30's @ 112 in street trim (Comp T/A's & all) on the motor. I drove it to the track 2 hrs, put 7 passes on it & drove it home. Not bad back then..But nothing compared to today's standards in the world of Pro Chargers & Turbo's!

I was runing a 454 LS-6 short block with a set of "049" oval port heads. Heads were gasket matched & bowls rolled, 2.19 & 1.88 valves, Ultradyne Solid cam, Performer RPM Intake & a modified 750 Holley. Car ran very good & streetable. I honestly think I could have go it to run 11's if I played with it more & put slicks, or some killer street tires like they have out today. 60' times were only 1.88. So obviously there was room for improvement.
7.60@185 in current ride. Not PT correct though.

Havent been to the drag strip in about 3 years but the last time I went it ran 12.66 @ 108 mph and pulled the tires off the ground about 2 inches on each side. Yes I know. Weak!! Its a budget build, thats my excuse and im sticking to it. :P
