View Full Version : Who has the new CTS-V?

I was down at the Cadillac dealer today and that CTS-V is looking mighty appetizing. I can lease it for the same denero as a 11 535i. Since it outgunned the M5 last year, it's a major consideration. Anybody have some feedback? I think it would make a decent daily driver.

I have had wood for one since they hit the streets. So I talk to every owner I see with one. Everyone loves them. It is hard to be in my business and take that new car hit with all the oppourtunity I have available to me. I am just waiting for them to get a couple years old and I will snag one at the auction.

I almost pulled the trigger on a Certified 09 that they were making a smoking deal on. It had no NAV, but who cares. I test drove it and it was an amazing car.

I'm happy to see GM finally compete with the likes of BMW and Mercedes Benz. When I look at new cars its a pretty narrow line of site. I'm not sure I need this much car but it's a pretty damn good deal I must say.

Todd,
PM Stielow for his impression. He did some testing on the the Caddy for GM.
I believe last year some time.

I had the wife in one for a little while and I loved it,We traded it for a SRX with AWD and NORTSTAR,The newer Caddy's are a great car. Right now I'm looking for a 09 SRX with no miles...(soccer and baseball). the 2010 is just a little to ugly for me. If I can't find one I'm going back to the Cts V. Get it you won't regret:thumbsup:    it

I seriously looked at one but couldn't get past the gas guzzler tax. I don't know if it is because I felt guilty or I just hate paying taxes. Maybe it's unrealistic to expect that level of performance without being branded a gas guzzler. It's a great car though, I don't think you can go wrong.

It's got to be the weight. The ZR1 isn't a gas guzzler. Even the new M3 is a gas guzzler. Hell, I've pulled down 15mpg in the Camaro! That's alot of lazy cruising at 70-80mph. It's nice to have a viable American option. Maybe I'll take that salesman up on that early morning test drive one of these days. It's probably a bad idea.

I belong to other forums where people own that car and love it. Not sure if this helps, but a good website is, cadillacforums.com
Good luck Todd. Keep us posted as well.

Drove one loved it, performance car in Cadillac clothing. If I could live with the small size for a daily driver I'd be all over it. Just does not work for my life style... I'm keeping my eyes open for a used wagon version for the wife.
Go for it Todd!

I have a buddy that is on his 3rd ZO6 and his 2nd CTS V --- He LOVES them...
It's still a tough comparison all around to an E63... but... it ain't the same money either. You could have a his and hers CTS V... so really not right to compare 'em heads up.
Then if all was equal - and I liked the Caddy - I'd be more interested in total cost of ownership -- CTS V used prices vs BMW/MB used prices... which one is going to get me back a bit of my buck. That is where the domestics have typically fallen on their face. But, that may have changed with the performance these cars are getting, and the build quality.

The fact that the E60 M5's have really bad resale values doesn't help the cost of ownership of the BMW, nor does the 10-12 mpg. I know that doesn't usually matter for our toys, but in a daily driver....16 would be nice!

I paid 100 grand for my M5 -- drove it to SEMA and back home - drove it around a bit - with 10,000 miles on it - I got 60 grand for it (I hated the car so didn't care as long as it was GONE!)... so I can personally attest to your statement about HORRIBLE resale.

I loved everything about the car -- EXCEPT --
It was an absolute gutless pig under 4000 rpm - which meant - almost all the time you were driving it.
The SMG transmission is worse around town than driving with a 15 year old your teaching to drive a stick. Herky jerky. My friends all made fun of it if they were riding with me.
On the road - the thing was fantastic. But 99% of my daily driving is going to the grocery store.

Todd -- If you remember our original discussion - I was going to do the euro delivery. Since Alex (#1 son) is spending June there (he graduates today as a matter of fact).... then when I tried to plan it - it was going to be -- Adrienne moving to start school at ASU June 1st - and trying to get Power Tour in - and do euro - and get my motor back in the Nomad... and I went into a WTF - no way I'm going to do all that. My life is pretty "leisurely".
Canceled the euro delivery. Wasn't going to work out. Haven't gotten back down to see what's in inventory (or around for a dealer trade)... yet. I've got remodeling on at the house - dealing with them - and this graduation thing - and the motor thing. Cars I have plenty of! They can wait a few weeks.
To answer the "maserati".... The Eyetalian stuff is just not "me"... I don't feel right in stuff like that - and I don't look at them even if they're next to me at a light. Just not my thing. The only reason I "need" another car - after selling the M5 is because we now have no 4 door multi people car and I need something along those lines. The truck is too big to drive daily - the 650 holds 2 and 2 babies in the back... The Mustang is going to school with Adrienne - the Magnum is what Alex is driving... the 37 Ford is a complete POS (drivable but I'm not taking it very far) and the Nomad is the Nomad - not driving it daily either...
Life is tough...

I have on 04 top of the line 4 door HSV Holden as my daily.
They teased us out ere in Oz with the Caddy. They bought in 3 CTS's (not CTS-V's) as RHD. Then killed the program.
The CTS-V was going to be my new daily.
Three cars we just don't get out here:
CTS (of any kind but I would only have the CTS-V)
Camaro
Vette
All 3 would sell out here, but economically we just ain't big enough (population wise) and the brits want all that euro crap....

I have driven a few of them, nice car, but I am a BMW guy. I love my M5 and M6.. I agree the M doesn't have the low end power like the Cadillac, that's why I put the 650 hp Dinan stroker motor in the M5 and my M6 is getting Supercharged. The Cadillac is fast, but still doesn't have the fit/finish like the BMW in my opinion. It's a great bang for the buck though. I got to drive Hennesseys CTS-V at his track, if the car had a good clutch in it, I think it would run a 10.8XX..

I think the M's resale values really speak volumes about them. They're worth about 50% of what they cost.
Here's an ebay ad for a "performance upgrade".... it's a mere 11 GRAND - and all it is.. is headers and an x pipe.. who hoo.... 52 HP...
Sorry -- but that's just SAD... and I'm a loyal (since 1976) BMW owner.

A big negative on Hennessey... most of the stuff I've seen from his shop - doesn't last very long - and many times scores a DNF in heads up testing... While it usually makes big "numbers" -- there's a lot to be said for RELIABILITY...

If I was that worried about resale, I would own half the cars I own..LOL! The question here is about M5/CTS-V. They are both great cars, but owning 3 M's, wife just got a X5M and spending time behind the wheel of several CTS-Vs, I still prefer the M car, just my opinion.

You and I might not worry about resale values -- but the average guy does.
I disliked driving mine enough that I was HAPPY to only take a 40 grand hit after 3 or 4 months of driving it. Every time I got in it - it pissed me off... and I can more than afford to not have to live with that. It hit the road - and I was happy.
Yes - the BMW quality might be slightly better overall... but it's not twice as good overall. My buddy has a new one - his second - and I was very impressed with the door slam (thud) and the overall fit and finish... but then I also looked at it as a Cadillac, with that last syllable being my "thought" of their products...
I made a mistake not buying the 6 speed transmission. I most likely would have liked the car a little better... BUT (big butt) I'd crawl out of the M5 and into our 650i drop top car - and the power (we're talking seat of the pants feel here) just driving around - was night and day. And that REALLY pissed me off... and of course - I have a wife that would nip at my heels with that little bit of info...
In the end - the CTS-V is a bunch of car - more fun to drive in NORMAL driving... and if I had to choose a "work" car daily driver - I'd certainly be looking at it as a value for the $. Get in drive it - no need to have to spend 11 grand for header$....
And - if you compare the M5/M6 against the AMG E63 - which comes with nasty snarly exhaust right out of the box... and the torque is just huge... then it's no contest. But now we're adding a whole 'nother car to the mix. But if I was needing 4 doors - big trunk - comfort - and a bit of grunt... the M cars would NOT be in the hunt. And you can buy a his and hers Caddy for the price of the E63... but I'd still take the E63 because I can. The OP (Todd) still has to make a living... and haul clients... and Kelli... I was stopped by the CHP just west of the AriDzona border on I-10 for 104 MPH... in a BEIGE BUICK rental car...
The nice young CHP man took my license and did the usual check - came back to the passenger window (where my wife was) and said... "take it easy will ya!"...
My thought about this was -- it was getting toward the end of the shift - and he didn't want to hassle with an arrest... AND he was dying to get on the radio and tell his buddies what he'd just witnessed.... i.e., "Guys - you won't believe this.... I just stopped a BIEGE BUICK doing 104!!" They're probably still talking about it.

Don't bring a E63 into the mix, I had one.. for 2 weeks and sold it. Mercedes just do not handle at all. Their transmissions are slush boxes. I guess I like the M cars because they are fun to drive and handle..

SW -- That's funny...
You and I must think alike... I buy a car - if I don't like it - it's GONE...
I agree with you that the M's handle better - and the trannies (automatics) are far better programmed. My M had the SMG -- and that with the complete lack of bottom end is what killed it for me. But the car had the best seats I've ever owned - the 20 pos. Multi whatever they're called... LOVED THEM.
I do like the E63 exhaust note... and the bottom end is eeeeeeehhhhhhhaaaa for around town. That was another thing that killed me about the M - it sounded like a wheezing Honda with a garbage can muffler... just nasty. Guess I like the big V8 rumble over the buzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.... We have to remember what TODD (the OP here) is looking for -- a client car - fun to drive but "more doors" - haul all the cute little Vegas girls around town all day... and we can't forget that part... 'cause it's what HE NEEDS that we're debating...
I love the insight this thread has... 'cause we're all looking for the right answer... and most guys don't get a chance to blow a car off if it's a big mistake... they're stuck with their decision - good, bad, or indifferent.

My daily driver is a 2009 CTS-V. I honestly enjoy driving this car just as much as my 2009 Z06. While it isn't as fast as the Z, I consider it a better car. It does everything well, and can easily hurt some feelings on the highway.
As for "grandpa" status, I don't remember any Cadillacs that looked grandpa like mine does. Lowered on D3 springs, and rolling on HRE 20" wheels.

SW, I'd run my little Caddy against your stroked M5 ;)

If you are wondering what a certain make or model drives, feels, looks like..ask Tony. He has owned or driven everything under the sun.

I'm really digging the CTS-V's. Awesome cars in my opinion. Won't do much good in the Northeast without a second beater car for the winter.
As are all your rides Tony, the CTS-V looks great!

Here's a curve ball for you guys. I bought a 2010 Audi S4 yesterday. I've been a BMW guy for 6 years. This car has me hooked on driving like I've never been before. It's so damn fun and refined. 0-60 in under 5 seconds with all wheel drive and pulls down 18/27 mpg. Interior is top notch and all the gadgets are really bitchin. The sound system is unreal in this thing. I didn't know the car existed 4 days ago. I went over and test drove it and drove it home.
It's Meteor Gray.

Nice car Todd! Congrats. I'm an Audi fan as well. The S line is a great Audi line. I LOVE the Audi A4's!! The RS's are VERY NICE! (a bit out of my price range, but very nice!)
Congrats and good luck with it!!

I have also recently been converted to an AUDI fan. We bought an '06 A4 2T as her daily driver and after using that car for a year I am seriously considering a future upgrade to a better faster AUDI like the S4.
I just changed the oil in her car last night for the first time and got a good look under the car, and wow is it.... um... unique.:wow:
Oh, and these things are unstopable in the snow for those that live in such an environment:P

I test drove one -- nice car. I rejected it because the backseat is too small for what I wanted otherwise I'd have bought one. You're right - very well engineered and was fun to drive. Too bad they don't make the A8 anymore for the US market.

The back seat is marginal but it's workable. I could've leased the 11 535i just as cheap but the styling really doesn't float my boat. The CTS-V was also in the same payment territory but Kelli will be driving it part time and her school is a hike. I think it's a really good economical decision. It's really a niche market for Audi. I'm super impressed with the car so far. You can just punch it around a corner and it just sucks you around it with no slippage. This car is hard to beat stop light to stop light. The power is bias 40% front and 60% back and it can adjust that as well. Mine has the performance differential similar to the true trac in the camaro. It sends up to 70% of the torque to the traction wheel.

Very nice car Todd
That is exactly what my wife wants but I told her I didn't think the S4 came in an auto. Hopefully she doesn't see this picture :_paranoid

It's not really an auto. It's a dual clutch thingy magigy that the computer controls. The computer matches rpms on every shift. It's really seamless though. I just got back from lunch and flat footed it from a stop light. Just hooks and goes like hell. I wouldn't go take it for a drive. It's that good.

Honestly, I wasn't that interested until I drove the car. I never thought I'd own an Audi. I've never been thrilled with the looks of their cars. This is the best car I've ever driven. Quick, nimble, efficient, killer sound, just a great daily driver in the concrete jungle I surround myself with. I've got my 666hp rocket in the garage. I couldn't be happier with my decision at this point.

Audi S4 is a very well built car. Driving experience is different with the AWD. I bought my wife a '10 Audi S5, it is a very nice car. Interior is top-notch, very modern looking.
But it is still no CTS-V. Not even close. Lisa is even bored with her S5 after driving the Caddy, wants me to sell her car and give the CTS-V to her as a daily driver.
Not a chance :)

I'm just not a huge fan of Cadillac styling. Not crazy about BMW or Audi styling either to be honest. The traffic here gets worse everyday. This car is perfect to playing traffic frogger. Maybe I'll do the CTS-V next time when they redesign it. I drove it and like it, the deal was right, so I took it home.:unibrow:
