To all:

Finally, with the help of Ben Hermance, and Jake Parrott, I think we have enough of what we need to get the project started officially.

Concept/Story:

She's a natural beauty with graceful classic lines. Driven to Hell, to become a Devil on the, "Trans Am", Race Tracks of the Past. She continues Evolving through the Nurturing of Modern Performance Engineering, and the Harsh Environment of High Stress Competition.

"Bettie", as I've decided her pet name to be, is based on the Similarities these two share by way of Images I've seen, and the stories I've read of the famous Pin Up, "Bettie Page".

There were a number of things about this car that have been 30 years in the making. I had a 1969 Camaro in High School, and before I had finished with it, I had to sell it to go to College. I really needed the Money, and I was able to get $4800 for it to start College. That was in 1980, and a LOT of Money for a '69 Camaro back then.

Since then, Technology has taken a Quantum Leap forward in Aerodynamic Design, Chassis and Suspension Technology, and the Drivetrain Choices that are available. All this, and the "Pro Touring" building style being developed has made my goal to encompass as many of these developments as I could, while retaining a nice driving Street Legal Car.

This has become a Labor of Love, regardless of the industry Norms, and the Mainstream Accepted Trends it might upset.

Chassis and Suspension: JRS Apex C6 Front Subframe, DSE Subframe connectors, JRS Modified Lateral Dynamics 3-Link

The chassis is composed of one aftermarket front Subframe from Jakes Rod Shop. "JRS Apex C6 Subframe" It is connected via DSE Subframe connectors and a 12 point Roll Cage, to a very modified rear subframe. Two Firewalls, (One fore/One Aft)

Weight Jacks on all 4 Corners

The JRS Apex C6 Subframe Suspension will consist of upgraded C6 Corvette Components. The rear will be modified for a more performance oriented Lateral Dynamics 3 link Suspension.

Genesis Cockpit Adjustable Front and Rear Sway Bars

Front: Penske 8300 Double Adjustable Shocks

Rear: Spax Double Adjustable Shocks

======================================

DriveTrain: Mast Motorsports LS-3 427 SS, Keisler R/T-56 6 Speed Dogbox, Strange 9 inch Housing, Nodular Iron Center Section, Tru-Trac posi unit with 3.89:1 Gears

======================================

Car Exterior Cooling System(s)

Radiator Brand TBA, Fan Mark VIII

Oil Coolers for the Engine, Gear Box, and Rear End will be used to help components last with the Belly Pan

Front and Rear Brakes will be Ducted
======================================

Brakes:

Front: Wilwood 6 Pot Calipers, 13 inch two piece Rotors.

Rear: Wilwood 4 Pot Calipers with Parking Brake, 13 inch two piece Rotors

Wilwood: Proportioning Valve

======================================

Body and Modifications:

Body Year: A 1969 Camaro Base, with 1970 Camaro Top, and with the "A" Pillar leaned in an Additional + 4* Hopefully this will Help clean up the Aerodynamics, and still use only parts that were being sold as "NEW" during the same year. (ie. Some 1969 Camaro's were sold into the Early part of the 1970 Year, as the 2nd Generation Camaro's were not ready yet with the newer Body Style. There were places that sold the second Generation Camaro's as the "1970 1/2" models, with the 1969 Models being sold initially as 1970 models.) Since this was the case, we took and blended the two years together to enhance Performance and Styling and to build a true 1970 1/2 Camaro.

Body Materials: Steel, Fiberglass, Carbon Fiber, Aluminum

Body Additions: Adjustable Dive Plane (Canards), Adjustable Splitter, Adjustable Spoiler, Diffusor

Lower Body Pan: Full Belly pan with wind vanes and Tunnels

Mirrors: Talbot 4 inch, Brushed Aluminum

Some Body Features will be altered or removable, depending on type of driving being done.

Due to using the Belly Pan, a number of Vents will be used to evacuate Hot Air out of the Engine Compartment. (Placement in Rendering is approximate location)

Will Try and Create a True "Ground Effects" car, By Shaping the Underside, and the Exterior for Decreased Lift and Wind Turbulence, and Increased Down force and Stability.

Tow Hooks Front and Rear

======================================

Interior:

Recaro Topline "Style" Seats. Full Leather with Heating and Cooling.

"Cool Suit" Hook Up's and Controls with Cooler, for Track Days

Two Person intercom installed

Vintage Air

3 Section FIre Systems

Modified Sparco Steering Wheel w/ Control Panel Added

Extra Wide Rear View Mirror

=======================================

Wiring: "Isis"

=======================================

Wheels/Tires: (One Set will be for Wet/Dry, the other for Dry Only)

Front: 17X10 PS Engineering, "T/A II", aka "Mini-Lites", with 285 mm or Larger Depending on Fender Modification.

Rear: 17X12 PS Engineering, "T/A II", aka "Mini-Lites", with 315-335 Tire Brand TBA

Front: 17X10 Kenesis 3-Piece Wheels 285mm

Rear 17X11 Kenesis 3-Piece Wheels 315mm

=======================================

There are many things I'm sure I have forgotten. As things start to come together, I would enjoy answering (Or at least Trying to Answer) any questions you might have. It will take a while, but we are getting things pretty planned out. Most things are sourced, the logistics are coming together, however there are still plenty of hurtles.

Jake Parrott, Ben Hermance, and myself have been working on this project already for a number of months. Due to the many Design elements it has taken a while to get them resolved. Ben has been a huge help cyphering my unintentional cryptic directions and notes.

I feel confident that Jake will do a terrific job on this project, and help make these ideas into something Beautiful. We should have plenty of pictures.

I truly welcome ANY and ALL Comments on this Build. Both Pro and Con, along with your reasons. I am very interested in your thoughts.

Take care and thanks for reading.

Sincerely,

Ty O'Neal

Thanks for the opportunity to help Ty and thanks for the comments on the rendering guys. There's some really impressive modified 69 Camaros coming out in the next year or two, I can't wait to see them done. From what I've seen, they're all pretty extreme but have different goals and different flavors...something for everyone! :thumbsup:

Hi Guys!

Sorry I've been absent, I had to put my wife in the Hospital as she has pneumonia. She will be fine, I've just been hanging out with her at the Hospital the last couple of days and being supportive.

I'll catch up real soon.

looks like my kinda project... I appreciate going against the modern silly big wheel look and using the lighter, more reasonable 17" diameter to keep the unsprung weight down. It will look way better than the rendering too with some tire on it.

do you have any side view renderings or rear iso to get a better idea of what that 2nd gen roof line looks like on it? Going with the "fastback" shape on the 69 is definitely thinking outside of the box.

edit - I just noticed the box next to the pic - I overlooked it/didn't see it 'til I went back after my post but I can see the roofline just fine there.

I'm going to do some of the interior, some technical designs, and I hope to build the Aero Parts. I would really like to try some of the reayl well designed ones I've seen. Since most of the speeds will be fairly slow ( < 100 mph) the designs will have to be more aggressive so hopefully some benefit can be realized by having them on the car.

Jake will be doing a lot of the "Heavy Lifting". I still don't have a lot of strength in my shoulder yet. I have a number of months left on that.

Love the 914!

First favorite car I ever had. I think I was about 8 y.o. at the time. I caught the bug early.

I think the subtle line changes will make working with the wind a bit easier. I really want to study and play around with that aspect of this car.

I want to get it to work first. If it also looks cool, all the better.

Same with the wheels. In testing if it needs more rake, and I can't get what I need out of the suspension adjustments, I can always put a taller wheel/tire combination on it.

Plus, by being able to lower the car easily, I think working with a smaller Diameter Wheel/Tire combination is a no brainer.

Thanks for writing,

=============================

I was wondering exactly what was meant by the question. I am welcome to ANY AND ALL QUESTIONS!! I just want to clarify one every now and then.

I bought this Pro-Touring Car from someone who had also changed it. I'm really not planning on selling her anytime soon. I've waited since 1979 to have this one and that was Too Damn Long!! :D

Plus, I think if the workmanship is good, it will always have value to someone. I sincerely think "Pro-Touring" is here to stay, and we are all probably still in the early stages of it.

Looking at the Street Rod area of Building, I doubt there are any Truly new things someone can do in that area.

I'm glad that this car has some "Hopefully", genuinely fresh ideas on it, plus some real functionality.

I would worry about resale if I got rid of my cars. But other than a Pick up Truck and a Harley, I still have just about every car since the mid 80's.

1986 Porsche 928s
1965 Riviera
1997 Suburban
1998 MB ML 320
1987 MB 300 SDL
Looking for a TR3 for my wife.

I'll let my Grand kids worry with what to do with them.

People love to say that, until the time comes when they do want to sell the car, and then complain no one wants it. But just blame that on the economy, ;) .

I think if a car has good workmanship, and a well thought out design, there will Always be a segment of the population that will want it. The Graphics and everything on this car will be a "Film", like they do on Police Cars, so I can change it if I want, or If I just want a RED car, I'll have it stripped off.

I plan to advertise on this car also for my Real Estate Business, or a different Venture I'm looking into. I know it will get a lot of attention, moving or sitting still. Helping to save myself some advertising dollars helps pay the car off anyway at least a little bit. Plus, I'm hoping some of the names on the car, "Jakes Rod Shop", "Hermance Design", and the S.C.T.A. Road Runner Car Club, will get a call or five off of having their names on a neat looking car.

We will see how well it generates any action.

I'll Live and Learn.

Todd:

You are right. 99.99% of the time I will base any large capital expense on the residual value of the asset when I'm finished with it, AND you're not bashing.

Don't worry about that, even if you were I'd take it in stride. I've been in sales to, "Thick Skin", you know!

I hope everyone feels free to say anything they want about it or me. The design is out of the box a bit, and with that I knew it wouldn't be everyones cup of tea.

I love this hobby, and ideas from anyone who want to add to the conversation is welcome. Besides, "Paybacks a Bitch, Right??":unibrow: Just kidding.

This is an indulgence for me. A break from Serious Business and the Stress of Life. I'm just looking to have a great time playing with it, and seeing if I can get some utility out of it over and above it being a toy. (Without Killing Myself)

Speak freely please.

To Everyone:

Sorry for the delay, my wife has had a relapse and I had to put her back in the Hospital for severe Dehydration. They Gave her tons of Fluids, 2 units of Blood, Oxygen, and now some PT, as She has become weak through this experience.

I am terribly concerned with her health, and until she recovers, I will only be focused on her and will only be able to post every now and then. If this is too much information, I apologize.

If you wouldn't mind, please continue to keep her in your thoughts and Prayers.

With God's help and great Doctors she'll be home soon.

Thank you everyone who has kept my wife in your thoughts and prayers. I am lucky, after these last 2 months or so I was told she can come home Monday given everything stays ok.

She has been really strong through everything and persevered admirably. I have learned a lot more about her character through this "adventure".

She is ready to get on with things as I am.

Also things can get back to normal so some time can be spent on "Betty", the She Devil.

HOOO WAAA!!!

I will start and get some progress reports made, and I have spoken with jake and he is preparing one of his subframes custom for this car. Down bars, weight jacks and a Cock pit adjustable sway bar are going on it. Once completed, it will be shipped down here where I can put it on, and get the new LS3 installed. I'll also work on the interior a bit, then send the car up to him for some special metalwork and some paint.

With any luck at all I hope to get to know some of you all in person at an event or three. Looks like there are a lot of people from Texas so we might have to organize an event down here or something.

Texas needs to represent!

Anyway, I'm glad to be back hopefully for a long time, and thanks again to everyone who has been supportive.

Everything and everyone are helpful when times get tough. I'm just glad this is going to have a happy ending as it was pretty scary at one point.

Take care and enjoy your weekend.

To all:

Sorry it has been so much time since I was on the site. Here is where I am with things.

Jake is finishing up the front clip for the car. Once done it will be sent to me. I will install it down here along with the LS3, R/T T-56, and the custom 3 link.

A bit of extra time on the front end has been needed to add a couple of items I wanted to put on it.

1) Adjustable Sway Bar (Cockpit adjustable)
2) Down bars comings off the firewall.
3) Upgraded C6 "A" arms.
4) Room for a Mark VIII sucker fan and still work with the body mods
5) I'm nixing the weight jacks in the front as the adjustably Jake has designed into the front suspension should be more than enough to get the nose down low at the track.
6) Custom headers are being designed to work with the exhaust systems requirements
7) There are a couple other items that were needing to be sorted out that I think has Benny worked through.

=========================
A couple of things that have again raised their ugly heads have been the health surrounding my wife and the death of my father. Sometimes when it
rains it pours.
After some bad health my father passed away and was buried last week. Margaret my wife while favoring the bad ankle she had, accidentally broke her right one with the cane she was using.:willy:

I'm again writing from the Hospital. All this however, we are still moving forward. Since I last wrote I was looking for a 1962 Triumph TR3B in "Powder Blue", for my wife. I found an unrestored and rust free model in Kansas City which not lives at our home. Makes a great Drive in Hamburger car.

While waiting for the Camaro parts and getting the Triumph, I came across a 1964 Corvette with 85% of the Mid-America Grand Sport kit on it. The poor owner had been hit hard and was needing to free up some cash in a hurry, so I have my next project ready and waiting after I finish SHE DEVIL.

I have the 1965 Riviera in the shop getting a make over. I will have Ben due a drawing of it soon.

With all the chaos going on, every spare minute I have had I have tried to stay busy working on something Car related. Things get down right depressing, so I do have a bunch of things working. I usually won't do this sort of thing, but sanity is a nice thing to have going for you and this is the outlet I have been using to help keep mine in tact.

I'll update on all the cars soon, I just just need to download the pictures off my phone and post them with a bit of information.
==================================

FYI: The Keisler 6 Speed R/T Gearbox for the Camaro is being finished. Again I wanted a couple extra things for it.

1) It will be the Road Racing version with a tighter gear spacing throughout all 6 Gears

2) I am having the proper fittings attached to it in the event I want to put a cooler on it. Having the Dogbox configuration, it would not surprise me to get it pretty warm with some decent spirited driving.

3) I am going to have the gear box put into a "Perfect fit" Configuration to make sure I don't miss anything. I am SO ready to get this car rolling.

Anyway, I hope this has helped bring things up to speed for everyone.

Here is the latest update on "She Devil"

"She Devil" is awaiting some very crucial parts, however I have got the Cage in the car now and have had the three link modified for better performance. (Instead of saving the back seat as originally designed, I had the bar lengthened for better geometry as well as some adjustment changes.) With a good cage in it and some cross bracing, your back seat is effectively rendered useless. I think it has what it needs now. (Enough rear room for a couple suitcases, and a "Cool Suit" ice box. I found one on ebay for a decent price.

A shop that makes some very expensive race cars was used to do the rear suspension modification work. Since I was having rear weights jacks put in the car, I needed to step it up a notch from the average builder. I like how it is now as you can adjust how the rear sits, and adjust the weight balance very easy and quickly.

The cage that was installed is not only for safety it is also extremely rigid now. There is a lot of cross bracing designed into it on several different planes. Sound confusing? I'll try and get some pictures to help explain what was done. (My description might technically be in error so some pictures will help)

Until then here are a couple more pictures I have of the car with the PS Engineering wheels on it, and it shows a bit of the cage.

Enjoy.

Here is another update on a major part of the Suspension. I spoke with Jake at, "Jakes Rod Shop", and he sent me some pictures of the status my subframe.

Some of the features of his subframe are:

-Subframe is powder coated black
-Howe extreme duty rebuildable ball joints
-Monoball d.o.m control arms
-Double adj shocks
-Can run a 275 mm or 285 mm Tire on the front. (10 Inch Wide Wheel, With 8 To 8.125 BS
-R & P Steering (16:1 ratio)
-Exhaust headers keep exhaust tucked up 1/4 inch above the bottom of the subframe
-Headers are 1.875 primary going to 2.25 mid and 3 inch collector (tri-y Headers)
Mine will have "Down Bars" that will tie into the Cage. A "Handle Bar" will connect these.

Jake updated me that my subframe will ship immediately.

Hope this helps a bit.

Enjoy,

Ty

=====================
Eric:

Thanks for writing.

The roofline modifications I will really need to address those. When I had the cage installed, I was busy with my wife, and just screwed up on the front cage bars.

I wished I had remembered everything at the time, I just dropped the ball. It's odd, I absolutely live and breath cars, but when something happens to my wife or family, I become very focused on the issue at hand, and to my detriment sometimes, details of other things just never present themselves as options when I need them.

I really don't know what else to say? (Brain Fart??)

My family is important to me, and when the chips are down, they always get 100% of my attention.

Cars are my Passion, my Family is my life.

I seriously want to do a good job on that car, so once things simmers down a bit, I'll get it rolling.

Ty

I totaly understand "family first" and how that can affect things.

Nice progress on the project so far. It looks great!

Looks great, Ty. Once things have settled down a bit with the family stuff, I'm sure you will make a lot of rapid progress, keep the updates coming! -Rob
