We just got the pass side outter wheel well tub in place and spot welded it but I am always grinding away to much to make it smooth! So can you guys post up pics of what it looks like on your car for me. I will take any type body work tips with welding and smoothing the welds down correctly. I think maybe I am being little picky since my first true muscle car and body work or maybe I need more pratice. Any tips/info fellows? Brandon

Be more careful?
It's easy to take too much off.... keep your grinder flatter if you're digging into the metal AND WATCH where you're grinding... you should be able to clearly see when you're grinding the "weld" and when you get into the sheet metal surrounding it. Don't grind into the surrounding metal any more than you have to in order to make it "flat".
Changing discs might help you with this. Use an aggressive grit to start.... knock the weld down - and switch to finer grit - finish with a 3M "pad" and even these come in various "grits" (they're not measured in grit - but you get the drift).

The discs are good for finishing the welds not grinding them down. I like 3M's 01991 3" grinding discs. You put them on a 3" grinder, and they eat the welds down quick! But only take them 90% of the way flat, then finish them off with the roloc discs 36 first, 80 next, then the red scotch brite. If you want it to look perfect you can then DA them with 180, 320.

Exactly, knock it down first then finish.
