The guys decided to build a shop car that they can autocross - they were tired of watching everyone else have all the fun. Too bad Mike and Jim can't drive.

We have a lot of people to thank for making this project possible:
Keith Craft (http://www.keithcraft.com), Chris Alston's Chassisworks (http://www.cachassisworks.com), Foreline Wheels (http://www.forgeline.com), American Power Train (http://www.americanpowertrain.com), Tremec Transmissions (http://www.tremec.com/), Be Cool Radiators (http://www.becool.com), Fuel Safe Fuel Cells (http://www.vintageair.com), Vintage Air (http://www.vintageair.com), I Did It (http://www.ididitinc.com), Heat Shield Products (http://www.heatshieldproducts.com), BF Goodrich Tires (http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com), Flowmaster Mufflers (http://www.flowmastermufflers.com), Royal Purple (http://www.royalpurple.com), Classic Instruments (http://www.classicinstruments.com), Baer Brakes (http://www.baer.com)

Without the help of everyone involved including our staff members this project wouldn't be happening. Thank you!

I think it sits a little high for autocross. Just my Opinion. The wheels might be a little small also. But other then that,

The swivel casters are set up for those really tight courses. I can only assume that the ride height was strategically chosen to keep them from clipping any cones with the bumpers or rocker panels.

All kidding aside - I can't wait to see them thrash on it. Just make sure they don't make it so damn perfect that they don't want it to get some cone rash!!!! ;)

Mike said we needed extra ground clearance for the transfer case. Don't worry they aren't very fast anyway. Dumb and dumber can't drive anyway.
They are building high enough so they can drive OVER the cones without knocking them over. You all wish you would have thought of that!

Those frame rails look awesome. I thought I was the only one dumb enough to put that much time into rear frame rails that you will never once all the sheetmetal is on, unless you happen to flip the car.

Looks good guys.

Great choice for a shop car guys, looks like it was pretty clean body wise to begin with.

BTW, I'm super envious of all you fab geniuses :hail: . Makes sitting behind the desk at a computer all day that much more painful.

I think it might be from Maier Racing...

I agree, it does look like Maier racings new rear design but I didnt see Maier Racing in the list of contributers to this project. It looks like they may be experimenting with the coil-over placement from the TCP cantilever rear setup. Or maybe they just set them up there while working on something else. :unibrow:

The rocker system in the back, looks like parts from Chassisworks. They use something similar on the pushrod rocker system they sell for mustangs. Plus those are Varishocks from Chassisworks hooked to the Rockers.

Come on guys what is taking so long? Are you going to have this car done for Columbus?........

It's all Chris Alston that we are modifying because they didn't want the cage under the car.

Your correct on the roof. Its a Carbon piece
The wheels on the car are Forgelines that look similar to the rendering. Not quite the same but very close. And I believe they are painted darker..
You'll have to ask Mike and Jim on proper specs for sizing..

whats the color called? GM just came out with a new Blue on the corvette called Supersonic blue..looks very close to it...it is a steel blue color isnt it??

The camera skews the color quite a bit. The color name is Thunder Blue - its a BMW color. Does look greyish to me but bluer than the pictures show if that makes any sense.

Staci ---

You're killin' me.... :D

The photos sure make it look GREY and one or two have a slight blue tint making it appear that it was a lighting issue with the photos.

Reminds me of the old ads --- "only her hair dresser knows...." :unibrow:

Sorry, having trouble downloading the video off youtube but it shows the first video'ed test run of the car. It also is on our facebook page as well. If someone manages to download it on to this website, that would be great.

Sure looks like Jim's driving not Mike. Mikes the old fart, aka "Matrix Mike"

Greay work guys and Staci, looks like a true contender the way you dominated the frontage road. (Not once have I seen a cop in that small town of yours) I think you guys are the best in the biz when it comes to color selection on all your builds  Hey Mike, whens the boy get to drive it, if Im not mistaken he's no longer on a learners permit and you dont have to drive him to Culvers anymore. Love the new nick name "Matrix Mike".

Mike told me once a year ago he hates thrashing on the cars after all the painful work...on the other hand Jim loves to step in and make it happen.

I can't wait to drop the pedal on DRAGON. Sorry Mike!:wow:

The purpose of this build was to have a car that the guys designed that they can drive. We haven't been able to participate in the auto cross events because we've always had a customer's car. This year the boys will be in every event that they can.
We are going to kick off the year with the:
Optima Batteries Ultimate Streetcar Invitational (http://www.optimainvitational.com/)

Modern ROLLER CAM motors need no break in proceedure... fire 'em off and go drive. The rings are good to go by the time you've degreed the cam. BUT (there's always a big butt) I'd break in the ring and pinion and bed the brakes...

You know I was coming back to enjoy this build thread and was just wondering if anyone at Ring Bros wanted to share anymore on that CF roof skin. Are there any closeup pictures of the roof ? The only ones I saw were not detailed enough. The early Mustangs did not have a removable roof panel like newer cars. So I'm wondering if this was the technique used -

The middle section of the roof was cut off

A flanging tool was used to form a step so that the CF roof could fit flush, or flange pieces were made separately and welded to the remaining roof.

I'd think the CF roof must have been at least 1/8" thick, which is a fairly large flange to make in the roof metal, but making a separate 1/8 flange would also be hard to curve, its not like you can put it in the shrinker although I guess you could hammer a curvature into.

I'd just be real curious about more details on this. I'll look closer at the roof photos but its hard to see that detail.
