Painting Question

I recently had a friend shoot my shell over for us. We had shot it 2 times and was not happy with it. He shot it and it was really heavy/runny but no orange peel I guess thats a good thing.

I had another friend who works in the shop as the painter come over and help withthe cut/buff stage and he said some of the runs he would not mess with, that the painter needed to fix them. I was a little miffed that a guy who had been doing this stuff for 13yrs would say he could not not handle the runs on the doors & the painter would need to do it.

I agree with the buffer, it's really hard to get out a big thick run I think you'll probably always see it in the right light. I would tell the painter he'll have to block the bad spots and start over. And tell him to slow the f down I start with a tack coat and work my way heaver with each coat. Good luck!

i agree with the buffer. You shouldnt go to far. The fault lies on your painting guy. You can fix runs but you could see them anyways. Kinda looks like a rimple in your body work. I would recomend sandind and shooting again....sorry

if you use run/nib file, and are patient,you can get rid of runs and sags completely with no traces left,that's if your clear does not have solvent pop, big mistake when you try to sand a sag or run off.

You can check clear thickness with mil gauge and see if it's safe to sand and buff.

I was just trying to figure out if he was just being lazy or what. I would agree the painter should of slowed down, he was laying down some really wet/heavy coats. The guy doing the sanding called me last night and is having the painter come back down to blade down the issues etc...

I use a razor blade on all runs. Hold the blade perpendicular to the surface and use a back and forth motion. Done properly the surface will be totally flat. Sand and buff. There will be no trace of run. Make sure clear is fully cured before doing this.

Yeah the painter stopped by and checked the runs in question, He said he cld razor blade them down some, but he would get it done when shooting the front sheet metal, and that we may want to most likely go over the whole body for straightness & shot some more clear across it all.

I am cool with it but I dont look forward to cutting/buffing the whole car again! lol
