Greeting all!
I found this site while looking for information on the Street car challenge at Road America in a few weeks. Fortunately for me I live near RA and will be there checking this out as I would like to participate in such an event in the future. In a previous life I road raced motorcycles so I have been bitten by the road racing bug years ago. This street car challenge is very cool to me as it combines two of my favorite things, road racing and good ‘ol V8 muscle.

There is some amazing hardware on the site and I hope to learn from some of you on this site, other sites are great but they seem to either focus on drag racing or restoration, not all-around vehicle improvement.

My car, well…. It’s usually the only one wherever I go, I love it.:)
It’s a 1969 AMC Javelin. It’s an original SST with a 343 and had the dealer installed Donohue package a few months after it was purchased. I bought it from the original owner and finished the resto/ and round one of the mods last year literally hours before the Hot Rod Power tour kick-off.

Most of the modifications are just the old school tricks done to the original TA cars. My wife and I took it to the first 3 stops with zero problems, great event. My two kids and the wife also like to jump in the car and spend the day in the car going on some of our great local curvy roads and some ice cream, really enjoying driving it!

As you can imagine, I can’t exactly go out and buy hop up parts for this thing:_paranoid so I’ve gotten to be a better fabricator to say the least. For example tomorrow I need to make a few finishing touches to the panhard bar project. I purchased a Maier racing adjustable panhard kit for a mustang, chopped it apart and figured out how to adapt it to an AMC Javelin.

More information to come.
Cheers All:thumbsup: !
Mike

Here is how it looked a couple years ago...

And it ended up like this:D

That fact that I got this thing on the road is a miracle, did most of everything myself with some major help from a good friend who runs a bodyshop with his father.

Your Car looks terrific, probably the best that AMC ever put out.

I have always loved the Javelins, and they are damn few and far between anymore. I remember seeing the Red White and Blue Models at the dealership. No one was buying them then. Would REALLY love to have one now though.

Keep posting your progress, and please get some better pictures of your car in the sunlight.

Thanks for posting it.

Here is a better pic, the back is riding a little high on this one, I lowered the back one inch after this was taken.

Empty engine bay. Stock 343 in the car at the moment. I have a 401 project that's been started for some serious hooligan power.

Screw the LSX. Everybody and their dog, grandma, and son in law is doing that now. Great work man, lot's of respect from me knowing how little aftermarket support is available.

Thanks for the kind words guys! Can’t wait to see some G-machines in action at Road America in a couple weeks! I live only about 20 minutes away:D
Spent some time yesterday finishing up my panhard bar install. What a PITA.:omg:
I got it all in but had a slight clearance problem with the top of the pumpkin and the cross bar, the bolts that held the pumpkin cover were contacting it with the car loaded down (Wife, 2-kids, full tank of fuel). So after a bit of head-scratching I decided to notch the rectangular cross bar to give another 2” of clearance.
So I put the car on jack stands and proceed to get it done while laying on my back grinding and welding over my chest and face while reaching around the rear axle. NOT fun but I think I have the problem licked.
Here is a couple pictures of the project.

I started with the maier racing mustang kit, and I was able to use the bar, and lower spring mount/bar mount with some modification.

I cut the frame bracket appart and used some of the pieces as shown here.
Here is a picture showing the wooden pattern placing the frame mount while making sure it was placed straight across from the axle mount at ride height. :_paranoid

And the completed bracket.

Glad it's done!
Next big project - get the girl trans out and put in a 5-speed:cool:

Beautiful!!!! I love the Javelin, and frankly, I always thought they looked better than the AMX.

Shiny Side Up!

Thanks!
Plus the Javelin has a back seat, which I need so the small people that live in my house can fit in the car:D

Blast from the past! I just came by this thread while searching for something else.:bump:
The car has evolved a ton since this last post including an Automatic to G-Force T5 that I built myself and still hasn't broken:lol:
When that was done I put a new motor with lots of upgrades ;)

I posted here once last year, so I may as well do another post for this year.
New axle from Moser with all the good bits inside and rear disc brakes, and a pic from last year at the Kenosha Homecoming.

You guys here might like this too, a bit of restore, and weight reduction up front. Yes, it's real.:P
