What is the difference between an LS1 bellhousing and a gen I bellhousing? I am looking to install a tko600 on an LS1. The guy I am buying the trans from has the clutch and bell housing, but it is for a gen I engine.

Simply put....two different bolt patterns. Gen I's are the small block/big block chevy engines. Gen III/IV are the LS motors. Now you can use it but you will need an adapter plate that costs anywhere from $250-$350 and also you may need a spacer. So, in my opinion if you're gonna spend the money on an adapter plate, you might as well spend the money on the applicable bell housing. Besides, I think the bell housing adapter is for adapting TKO's to Gen I engines, not a TKO to the LS1. The TKO can generally be paired with an LS anyway with the appropriate bellhousing without an adapter plate. The adapter was invented because 5 and 6 speeds didn't exist when Gen I motors were invented 30+ years ago.
