So as I begin my build, I am wanting to smooth the firewall on my 70 Nova. I am going to be cutting out my own panels from 16ga steel, and was wanting to fill in the factory steering hole. I have thought about going with an aftermarket column and was wondering if it would be easier to fill the area from the factory and re-cut a smaller opening for the new column, or just leave the factory mounting location alone and just live with the opening as is? Also, if anyone has any pics of the hidden wiper motor, that would be cool since I want to do that mod also. Thanks guys

I like to smooth the firewall out first, then when you go to mount the column cut a new hole. Clean and simple all you have to do is build a lower mount.

Any thoughts on which aftermarket column to go with?

My sentiments exactly. That's how I'm doing mine as far smoothing first, then cutting a hole.

I am partial to Ididit personally. Here is a pic of my firewall smoothed without the hole for the column cut yet. I'm gonna use a swivel bezel around my column. The whole you see if for my brake master cylinder.

Here is one smoothed with the steering column triangle deleted.
We sell both IDidIt and Flmaing River colums. Depending on weater you need a key column or not. We used a IDidIt swivel Floor mount on this one, We have all the parts numbers nailed for this set up.

That looks awesome Frank!! I am looking to have a toggle turn the ign/assc on, and then hide a push button so a keyless column would be perfect. What wiper motor are you gonna use? Also, I assume one of the holes above the column is for the brakes, but what is the other hole for? Also, should I plug the stock accelerator hole also? I'm gonna run an ls motor if that matters

Clutch and brake masters are the 2 holes. We used a DSE wiper motor. We set the motor WAY back so that is a distributor relief for the angled Pontiac distributor
