:soapbox: So I go to check on my 69 Camaro today after the guy has had it for four months after I've paid to have a one piece floor, inner & outter rockers, trunk pan and L & R full quarters installed to see that all that has been done is the floor was cut out... Needless to say after four months of run-around I've decided to pick my car up after numerous excuses on why it's not done. I'm going to pick up the car and panels this week or weekend and do them myself. It may take me that long to do them myself since I've never done any panel replacement before, but am doing alot of research on how to do it. I'm extremely pissed that this guy went back on most of his word and just strung it out for this long. Anyhow, atleast I know no corners will be cut and will go about this the best I can and make sure all the fit is correct and not do a slap together job. I'll be glad to have my hands back on the car and will personally have more hands on expierence with the car. This guy just turned out to be a joke. Anyhow, just had to vent a little bit....

Sorry to hear that I guess that just goes to show you that references and talking to old customers is the most important thing you can do when dropping off your car to a shop.

Yeah, he had some refs that were good and many other cars, but I got the shaft... oh well, lesson learned.

get the car, parts and money back. There are enough places close by you, or even some shops out of state that will come get your car and not bull**** around...

Bro, I think many of us have gone thru that. I too, until I found a guy who is honest and friendly. I have his business, home & cell phone contacts. He's very open and will work with you on all levels. I don't know how far White Settlement is from Dallas...maybe an hour. If you'd like, I can give you his contact info and let you speak to him about you car. He does everything. His guys know what they are doing too. PM me if you're interested. Take a look at my Chevelle Makeover thread.

Crappy thing to have happen. I know it's not the first time someone on this site has experienced it either. Sorry you had to deal with it. But the good part is that there are TONS of great threads and a lot of very good advice here from the best builders in this and other countrys. Best of luck to you on doing it yourself. More power to you. Be sure to post up lots of pictures along the way.

Sorry to hear your dilemma. It's exactly this kind of stuff happening repeatedly - poorly done work - over priced - taking too long - etc that caused me to build my own shop (private). I got so tired of re-doing work I just paid to have done...
That's not to smear every pro shop out there with the same brush - but around here - there's more dickheads than there are GoodGuys... :>)

You can do this. If you invest in the tools that you would have paid in labor you will be way ahead. A plasma cutter and 90 little suit case mig welder will get you a long way on this type of sheet metal and the bonus is you can use it for other projects.
Body shop jail isn't fun for anybody that gets caught up in it.
I helped replace the entire floor, inner/outer quarter, trunk, and rear body panel on a 68 bird. It is a big job, but nothing you can't handle. We did it for the first time and got some super results.
Good luck!

Charles, Sorry to hear something like this has happened to you! Dealing with you on all the parts you seemed to be a really good guy and definitely don't deserve this kinda crap but then again no one does! I seen my father go through this same type of thing 15 years ago when he was building street rods and it really makes me angry as a business owner how many guys out there take advantage of people. I know it's a distance but I have some really good, honest friends down here that build my cars for me and if you need any help you have my number so give me a call. Even if you just have questions I could put you in contact with them and I know they'll be happy to help. I'm sure there are a lot of guys on this board that would be willing to do the same thing! Good luck man, wish you the best

I am not too far from you and learned quite a few things the hard way on my 69 Firebird. If you need some help let me know and I'll drop by.

Thanks guys. I went this morning and picked up my car and some of the sheet metal I bought from his place. He says the other metal is on order and a few parts to my car was misplaced... They were inexpensive panels, but it still counts. Anyhow, I've got a little bit more metal to buy and then the metal work begins... Thanks again guys !

I've had a few people PM'n me asking who is was, I will let everyone know of the place and his name once everything settles. I'm going to give him a little bit more time to come up with the panels I paid for and my missing stuff. Once that happens I'll inform everyone. Thanks guys !
