View Full Version : Raising transmission tunnel to fit T56 transmission?

Anyone have any suggestions for raising the transmission tunnel to fit a T56 transmission in a 1969 Camaro? Any and all help is much appreciated! Thanks!

im in thge same situation but im still wating on motor and trans. if get a chance go to detroit speed site click on PROJECTS and then choose jason stavola's 69 camaro. they show very detailed pictures of install and fabrication. i must have been looking at pics for hours those guys do some great work, really impressed

I believe you just need to cut the hole for the shifter them make a plate for to mount you trim ring unless you are body dropping the car with soild bushings but if it is a 69 camaro you might stil be good with just the shifter hole. Hope this helps

In the same boat....However.... my research has me concluding that its all about the mounts you use.

I am using the ATS mounts and Cross Member. According to Tyler no tunnel Mods required when using the ATS mounts and Cross Member.

I don't have the drive train yet and I am welding in my floor as we speak

It also matters what subframe body mounts that you use. If you don't want to cut the tunnel make sure you use stock height.

If your using a Magnum even with full height mounts you will have to raise the tunnel a inch or so. We eliminated the body bushings on Project Unfair and had to raise the tunnel a tick more then 2". It is no big deal, if one wanted the stock console could be trimmed at the bottom and no one would ever know. We are just making some fill pieces and reusing the original tunnel
