the logic behind charging for checked baggage? Obviously I understand that it is a revenue generator. But explain it logistically. On a flight to Atlanta from Columbus. Non-Stop. Full flight, 150 people. Every person had 2 bags. (that is what the FA said) 300 carry ons, not enough space. It took 20 minutes to stuff all they could up top, then off load and check bags for the stuff that wouldn't fit. We are late to ATL, this flight picks up people and continues to Fort Lauderdale, FLA. It has to be late -or- the airplane burns more fuel to get there on time. It seems the revenue generator would be to charge for CARRY ON luggage. EXPLAIN THIS MADNESS!

Can you tell I am in a bad mood? I hate traveling for work.

Not complaining about the charge. I am complaining that it does not make sense. That is the reason SW does not assign seats. Quicker to load, quicker turns, plane makes money in the air not on the ground. Charging to check forces everyone to try and carry on which slows down the loading AND unloading process.

The airlines are such a goofy bunch. What it comes down to is that one carrier started to enforce the charge of extra baggage and then it snow balled from there. Now everyone it trying to make money and of course if one airline does it, they all have to do it. What frustrates me is that they have all forgotten what customer service is all about. I like on time, friendly service with a smile. That's rare these days. Even most airline employee's will agree with me.

You are 100% correct that the airlines are slowing things down and causing delays due to their own actions. Yes it does take forever to board the aircraft these days, but it takes longer than need to clear security due to all the extra luggage being hauled in. It's a goofy system.

It's not going to get any better that's for sure. Good luck!
