Had a blast this weekend meeting alot of Lat-g guys and new friends. Thought I'd share how the event went and the fun I had running on the autocross event for the first time. Still can't understand why more people don't get involved. Well on Friday after being there all of about 15 minutes and seeing some action on the course my friend Dean and I ran for the car and hit the inspection area. Once we got teched and emptied the trunk filled with cooler and chairs, I gave it once over and ran a slow 40 second time. Next run I knocked it down a few to a 38 and continued to get faster each run. Throttle was no problem, but definetly slowed the car down crossed up and sideways, smooth is fast. My best time ended up being a 36 flat which was okay, was hoping to run a 35 but obviously need some more seat time.
I was able to catch a ride with ryan from Detroit Speed in the 69 Test car, man that dude was fast, He ended up fastest in the vendor class with like a 32.3 or 32.4 I believe.
Well after runnin the car pretty hard Friday and Saturday, we found that the crew picked our car for "Muscle Machine of the Year" finalist. I called it a day and headed for home to only get a few miles from the event and the car was making some pretty bad metal to metal sounds and pulled over. Within a few minutes we had several "Goodguys" helping out, after pullin the blower belt fearing it was coming apart. I narrowed it down to the power steering pump and loose pulley. Well I tightened the pulley and helped a little but still had pump issues, Obviously the saginaw pump could'nt handle the beating it got on the autocross. Mark, one of my competitors with a killer blue and silver 67 camaro and friend I met not too long ago, offered a spot in his camp site at the event and his daughters truck so I could get home and back in the morning.
I cut the belt and strong armed it through the show on Sunday, Had Kyle Tucker take a look at the car and figured I'll be switching to a Type II pump and remote resivoir because the blower sits right above it. So if any of you guys have seen my engine bay and have any cool choices, its going to have to mount next to the radiator on the core support. The DSE is'nt bad, I would glass bead it for a satin look. Honestly guys I don't see the car being abused more than a small course like Goodguys so I'm not going crazy on it, But I do know what my next build will more of, man that was fun, I envy you guys runnin the Optima challenge!!
Thanks Mark, Dean, and Charlie for all the help!
