so tell me about Grand Junction Colo please

I may be getting ahead of myself but I'm interested in going to GJ once I graduate to work. Most of the energy companies I have submitted my resume to have positions available in GJ. I think I'm worth it so I think at least one of them will hire me. That being said, tell me about the place. It looks beautiful from the pictures I see but I am a sucker for the mountains. So feel free to share any info you think an outsider would like to know about the place. I'll listen and ask questions from there.

Well this isnt a personal perspective but I can tell you that my brother who lived there about 5 years ago for about 5 years or so and then they moved to Tucson Az.
They are trying to sell there place in Tucson and he cannot wait to get back to "The Junction" as he calls it, they like it there, he does have inlaws there as well but he cant wait to get back..... FWIW

So are they talking like the oil biz is picking up there? I know it was a big part of there economy, there's lots of deals on homes there right now.

Well, I've been doing some reading on city-data.com about the ins and outs of the area and it looks like they were hit hard when energy prices came down. However, the companies are still hiring engineers and have that location listed as places to go. I'd imagine it has slowed but that it's still advancing. Of course a rig worker may say other wise. It's a question I need to ask but I'd imagine a company would transfer an engineer instead of just let them go. Where as a rig worker would be let go unfortunately. We will see. Like I said, I may be getting ahead of myself but I'm confident I'll get hired by at least one of the companies.

I'm all ears if anyone has more to add. city-data.com gives lots of detailed info but I can't get a feel for the area really. I guess that's what I am after. If anyone can convey a feeling for the area.

I lived in GJ 1980-1982.
Graduated from Mesa College..

Sadly I have not been back there since I graduated:(
Beautiful area.
Very diverse and scenic.
Great place to live if you enjoy the outdoors!]



One side of the valley is the Grand Mesa.
The largest Mesa in the world..
Lots of small lakes and ponds.

And the 3rd side is the Colorado National Monument.
Looks a lot like the Grand Canyon.
Rim rock drive is a breath taking scenic drive that goes thru this area.

The weather in the valley is very mild with lots of sunshine.
Play golf in the morning and go skiing in the afternoon.

I've lived in Denver metro all my life,since 1959.There is no other place in the country I would live,except Grand Junction,Co.

I really don't know much about the economy but I do know it was no where near as bad as the rest of the country.

The weather on the western slope,that's what GJ is termed, is not as bad in the winter as the central mtns or the denver area.Temps in the summer are generally warmer there than the rest of the state.

Housing is very much affordable.You can get a lot for not much money.The scenery is unbeleivable too.

After you get here we are putting up the "No Vacancy" sign because when people visit here they end up staying.

Thanks for the info guys and the links Scott. I think I will like it out there. I've got my fingers crossed that someone will hire me. I'll keep you guys posted as as I'll have to learn where all the good places to go are and to meet people of course. The one company said they will get back to me no later than two weeks from now. It's going to be an anxious two weeks lol.

well...... I got a job in GJ This is contingent on my graduating(no big deal) and them not finding anything bad in my background check. If they do, I hope they tell me because I'm completely unaware of anything that would prevent me from being hired haha

As of now, I'll be in GJ sometime in June. However, I have to train in Ft Worth, TX for a few months before I am in GJ for good. The company will be putting me up in hotels and such until I am there more permanently and even then I'll have a couple weeks to find my own place. That really helps me out since The first time I ever stepped foot in Colorado was a week and a half ago when I interviewed in Denver. So far I like it, lol. I will have to get used to not having a lot of trees around. Aside from that, bring it on.
