Hey All,

A friend of mine has a 1978 Corvette and he wants to lower it 2in all the way around. He's willing to cut the coil springs and modify the rear leaf springs. Can someone please send me any info on how to accomplish this with the stock parts?

Thanks
Hec

Let most of the air out of the tires. Easy 2 inch drop with stock parts. :P

You might be able to use lowering blocks in the back, but you'd probably need longer U-bolts. Other than that, I'd look into aftermarket leaf springs with a built-in 2 inch drop. I'm not sure if you could get the existing stock leaf springs re-arched for a 2 inch drop. That's something to search(more specifically) for on the internet. For the front, it's not usually recommended to cut coil springs as they were designed to work at their original length. You could cut them to possibly save some money, but it might have very adverse effects on ride quality. You would probably want to go with aftermarket coil springs. I'd do some searching from parts vendors to see what's available for the front also.

You could lower the back leaf cheaply with blocks, not sure how that effects geometry (prolly have to reset rear alignment). You might trying searching for aftermarket lowering coils for the front. I know coil over kits are available, but costly.

Redfire blocks on the rear of a corvette could possible only raise the car.
there is longer bolts for the leafsprings that can lower the car 1-2 inches.
front I say lowering springs are ok up to 2 inches, I did this on my 71 and the suspension on a 78 is basically all the same.

longer bolts in the rear and cutting the front springs will do just fine. If he wants to upgrade, Vette Brakes and Products has better coil springs that are cut to height for the front. They also make a composite monoleaf for the rear that combined with longer bolts will work very well.
