$300 too much for a used 9" 3.50 Posi?

I found a used (but "in excellent condition") 9" center section with 3.50 gears and 31-spline limited slip posi on craigslist a few hours from my house. I don't have to pay shipping. He says the posi looks new and gears are in great shape. Is it worth it?

Going in a 55 Chevy Sedan with BBC and Muncie (unless I get a great deal on something like a T56). I'm going to be getting a housing built from Currie, Moser or Strange.

FWIW, the 3.50 gear ratio, 31-spline dropout is the most common configuration in the wrecking yards since that's what most of 70's F150 (up to '83) pickups and E-150 (up to '86) vans used. Limited slips, as denoted by 3L50 on the gear ratio tags are the Ford Trac-Loc units. While decent limited slips, they are a clutch type design, so the only way to test them is to measure the break-away torque, not very easy to do with just the center section. The Trac-Loc units are somewhat infamous for breaking the OE cast carrier housing cap. Currie makes billet steel versions that hold up a lot better under severe use.

I blew up a Trac-Loc in my pickup and grabbed a new used center section for $150 IIRC, so $250 isn't outrageous but seems a little steep to me. Whether it's worth it or not is up to you.

Check you local pull a part salvage yard. They are 85 bucks each here.(Washington) That is a complete housing, center section, axles and backing plates. Brakes are an extra 35 bucks.

Also remember there are different center sections/carriers.
Some stronger than others.
