What are the best motor mounts for putting a LSX engine and 6speed into a 69 camaro? I want to avoid having to cut the tunnel on the car, so I need mounts that will put the engine forward slightly or lower in the frame...

Some good comparison photos in here:

I think ATS mounts place it the lowest but headers that don't need hammering to fit may be hard to find.

From what I've heard, the S&P mounts along with Stainless Works headers work perfect for stock steering on first gen Camaros.

Just curious what headers you have used with ATS mounts and stock steering. The only ones I have seen that worked were ATS headers. The SW headers did not fit. I remember Tyler telling me that SW's would not make the needed mods but that was a few years ago.

I actually did an update that showed the PerTronix (Doug's) mounting plates that allow two mounting positions: one simlar to the Hooker plates and one similar to the Edelbrock pieces:http://firstgens.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=317

By the way, the ATS plates seem to locate the engine in exactly the same place as the Moroso/DSE/Autocraft/S&P plates.

ok Don... ya got me. we have used the SW headers with the ATS mounts on oursub frame. i was under the impression that our (ATS) mounts being that we did not design them, are in Exactly the same location as all the others??

here is a pic for referance they look the same as DSE, and a couple of the others.

Back when I bought my headers, Stainless Works later revised thier stock steering header to this design. These should work with the ATS plates.

I wasn't trying to catch you. I was just trying to find an answer to one of the most commonly asked questions about LSx swaps. If you could say what headers work with the ATS plates that would help out a lot of people asking the same question. If the SW headers now work that would be great.

as far as quality and bang for the buck i woudl say yes. we sell them for 899.00 i think if you look at nrgular non coated headers and then add coating. i think your way better off and they are stainless

some of the issues we have seen is in the actual frame stands, there are some variances we just did a nova and tried 2 different frame stands to find the rigth ones we ended up using classic performance # E304 these list for a BB 69 dont know if this will help but they worked??

I used ARH headers and they are really good quality. Plenty of room for rack & pinion or stock steering. They have so much ground clearance. They're not even close to sticking below the subframe, and they fit great with DSE mounts.

They're a little more expensive but if you call they may be able to get you a deal

Stainless works are the same as far as the ground clearance goes. so there area couple options for you.

Any header recommendations for DSE subframe using ATS plates?

I have DSE plates on a DSE frame but it looks like the ATS/DSE plates are almost identical in positioning. My ARH headers work great but as they said the Stainless work headers would probably fit well too. (assuming your doing an Ls motor)

Lemons makes a sweet set for the DSE frame.
