'99 Suburban Electrical - Rear Brake/Turn/Reverse

Sorry for the mundane question ..... '99 Suburban isn't too exciting.

But, drivers side rear brake light, turn signal and back up lights do not work.

Passenger side works fine.

All bulbs are good. Left turn signal has a "fast blink" sound inside the truck.

At first I thought it was a broken wire somewhere, but I thought that I would ask here first. It's cold and rainy/snowy outside !!

Any ideas? Certainly I am missing something obvious.

These GM trucks were notorious for problems like you're describing. Most of the time the fault is the injection molded socket strip that holds all the bulbs you are having trouble with. Check to see if the pins are corroded or broken off where the harness plugs into the strip. Also look for any cracks in the strip itself. Chances are one or both of the conditions I described are the cause. You can get a new strip from a good auto parts supplier or the dealer.

Each of the bulbs connects to it's own independent socket, which connects to the common light housing. Each bulb has it's own set of wires.

Crawling around underneath the truck, I found two connectors under the rear drivers side ... one blue and one grey. The grey one was disconnected (somehow???), so that is cleaned out and back together. That takes care of the brake light, tail light and reverse light. Drivers side turn signal is still not functioning. A chore for tomorrow morning, I guess, as the cold and wet snow wins for tonight.

Ahhh......they changed the design. Its been a while since I had to repair one and all the ones I have repaired were the strip style. If you have individual bulb and socket connections, it sounds like your on the right track with the dirty connectors.
