View Full Version : Brass fittings on fuel line

Hello,
After I replaced the fuel pump on my 350, I have a fuel leak out of the brass fitting connected to the fuel pump to the carb(still using the hardline from the factory). Is there a trick to working with the brass? This little piece of brass has be frustrated like you wouldn't believe(some of you may understand where I am coming from). I would appreciate any help on this subject.

The flare may very well be worn out on your hard line. I'd pull it apart and inspect the seat and flare.

Also on those flare fittings, you need to use a line wrench. Lot's of people try and use an open end wrench, and that tends to 'round' the hex part of the fitting off. Once this happens you can't really get them tight enough.....
Don't use teflon tape!

I think my flare fitting might be done.

The seal is with the flare, not the threads...

I am not sure if this fitting is flared, compression, or universal.

Are you at the fuel pump end or the carb end of the fuel line? I may be thinking too late into the 70s but does this truck have a Qjet on it with the filter inside the portion where the fuel line enters the carb? If so, there's a thin plastic washer that seats onto the end of the large fitting and seals against the carb.

It needs a brand new line. All these bandaids are a waste of time.

Doesn't get any simpler than that Todd...

Stuff does get worn out... and a leaking fuel line is nothing to try to put lipstick on.

This is the fuel pump connecting to the lead pipe to the q-jet.
