So i bought this car a month or so ago from Chad Fletcher & have been going back & forth with myself on how I want to do this car. After over building my previous 69 and not wanting to drive it because i was always afraid something was going to happen I've decided to keep this one fairly simple. It will be stock in appearance from the outside with the full DSE treatment underneath, bigger wheels/tires, and I'm going to run a LSX 427 based motor with a Tremec 5 speed. The interior will get some new Recaro's up front, DSE dash, roll/harness bar & new gauges, otherwise pretty much stock. Here are a few pictures of what I'm starting with....

It was a pleasure speaking with you as well & thank you for the quote on the wheels. I have decided to go with a DPE SL5s (similar wheel attached) in gloss black center with a chrome lip. I had a set of DPE wheels on my previous car and was very happy with them.
I will be contacting you this week on your stainless steel bolt kit and I'm sure there will be more things I will need as we go.
Great talking with you. I like your plan.

Visited the rod shop today and it almost made me sick to see this car in pieces! All the DSE parts are in, front sub frame is already painted and assembled and we will start the mini tub and rear next week. I've decided to keep the 396 and auto trans for now (building this one on a budget) but I think its gonna come out pretty cool. We've decided to go for the semi murdered out look with the motor, very little billet, powder coating the headers and Frank (Prodgy Customs) and I are working on something for the radiator.

Ok, I know I decided to keep the 396 motor that's in here but I just got these numbers on a LSX427 from a very reputable builder. Dont know if I should even post these but here they are. What should I do??? Swap now or wait a year or so???

Doing anything twice costs more money. The 396 isn't worth much now or next year. Is it really setup for what you plan for the car?

The 396 will work but I'm sure it will have its downside too! I plan on using the car for autocross and weekend driving/having fun with it. Just really trying to decide if it's $20k worth it right now. And yes, it will cost me more to swap things out later as the car is completely tore apart now.

It really depends on how serious you are about competing. You can certainly get your feet wet with the 396 and see how much you like autocross. I'd at least put a quality pan on the engine. My car was pretty fast with the aluminum headed big block. Will the LS7 make you faster, of course. Less weight on the nose is always good. Enough to pony up 20k, that's hard to say without knowing how competitive you want to be. For 20k you can probably make more power anyway or make a little less for quite a bit less.

If I were you I would go with a LS engine not because I don't like big blocks, but because it sounds like you have your heart set on a LS. If you have already splurged on the DSE stuff, you ought to go ahead and go with the Ls so you don't have any regrets. Regrets can be expensive.

As of yesterday the mini tubs & roll bar is in and undercoated. The fire wall is sanded down and ready for some paint. I am now having problems with the wheel fitment because I'm using the Baer Exterme Plus but I think with Franks help we have the solution. Thanks Frank, your help is greatly appreciated!!! I have also decided I should of named this "Project Indecisive" since I could not make up my mind on the motor so yesterday the decision was made to keep the 396 and to guarantee that I ordered the Billet Tru Trac system in black anodized, were painting the block in an aluminum, and I ordered fabricated moroso aluminum valve covers with breather tubes, 14" air cleaner cover and swivel thermostat housing. Now that I've spent some money to dress up this motor I have to keep it.....for now :unibrow: Also ordered a TKO-600 5 speed yesterday and that should be shipping today

Hey Frank, If the "other" wheel company can't give me an answer today and we order new wheels I think this here is the ticket :unibrow:
Matte black center, gloss black outer with a red pinstripe. I'll have the big red brake caliper and I'll paint the Baer 6s in gloss black.

My office has been flooded this week with parts being delivered. I think we now have everything in except the wheels which were just ordered this week so it wll be a few more weeks before they arrive. We have everything completed that we've been working on so far and will be rolling it into the assembly area this afternoon to start putting IT back together. The firewall, inner fenders and radiator core were all painted with matte black and it looks really cool :unibrow: Here's a few more pics....

is way up in Michigan June 18th-20th. Shaping up to be a big event. Best part is you get a full day at Gingerman raceway.
Have not decided if I am driving or trailering to the event. Plan on leaving on Thursday and hooking up with Ron along the way.
Sign up and get your car ready. You look real close.

Getting close, the calipers are back in today from being painted and we will be installing them later, bleeding the brakes, mounting the wheels and tires and setting her on the ground. Waiting on the radiator so once that's in we will put fluids in it and fire it back up. Still have a few minor items to due on the body but hopefully i'll have her back in a few weeks :unibrow:

But, I hate the brakes, the pedal is almost to the floor and I almost couldn't stop at the first stop sign I came to. Hopefully a few adjustments and they'll be fine. And the motor has to go, this thing sucks! It has no power, in fact, it wont even turn over the back tires!

Prime the oil pump, rotate crank by hand a few times, and let her rip!!

I'd change the oil and squirt some oil in every cylinder. Then rotate it by hand with the plugs out. Then you can turn it over without spark to prime the pump. Pop the plugs in and fire it off.

Fast 90mm and I am signed up and ready to go to RTTH. Got a little oil pump problem rigtht now...7 psi of pressure. No metal in the oil or filter so i am guessing it sucked out an o-ring or the bypass is stuck. While I am changing the pump I will put in an Improved Racing oil pan baffle.
I take it you will be at RTTH? Hope so, love to see your new car in person. I really liked your old one. Great event and the people are even better.

with better skills than mine to help you out. If you want to be one of the slow guys...I am your man. LOL What is that new country song "I'm pretty good at drinkin' beer."
I will tell and show you everything I know. Brian Finch or Kyle Tucker would be a great place to start and they are more than willing to let you ride and pass on some good info.
With that motor you are doing you are going to have your hands full.
Are you going to make the drive non-stop? You are more than welcome to spend the night at my house here in Charlotte if you are planning on breaking up the trip. Come to think of it, you will probably go through Atlanta up 75 to Knoxville...invite is still open if you come this way.

Thanks for the invite but more than likely I'll leave outa here early and drive straight through.

It's been a while since I've updated but here's the latest. After spending weeks trying to sort out what we did and didn't have for the motor/trans I bought we were finally able to start ordering the parts we needed. Everything we need was in by late last week and we should have this thing ready to fire by the end of this week/beginning of next :_paranoid
Once that's done we are going to get rid of the chrome on the side as discussed earlier so hopefully withing 2 weeks I'll have it back. Trying to get it ready for RTTH6 but not sure that's gonna happen. Keeping my fingers crossed though :unibrow:

It's been a while since I updated and we've had tons of issues with the motor/trans swap. I really think I have a black cloud over my head with trying to get this thing finished  Anyway, we fired it yesterday and man the motor sounds wicked :unibrow: but as I walked to the rear of the car I noticed we were pouring gas outa the fitting going into the tank. After some diagnosis and thinking it wasn't tightened we discovered we had the wrong fittings so we are going today to get the new ones and hopefully have it running and ready to be tuned next week.
Also want to say thanks again to Frank @ Prodigy and Wegner for the kick ass front drive system, this thing is top notch and bolted in perfrectly, no shims no problems nothing!

Got to enjoy the car for a bit and get some miles put on it....finally! We have now removed all the emblems, chrome around the wheel wells, rocker and gills and in doing so have realized there's a little bit of issues to deal with from some previous body work. That said, I am painting the entire car over and deciding if I should go ALL black and get rid of the white stripes or do the stripes in matte black :_paranoid What do you guys think??? Has anyone seen matte black stripes on a black car and if so how does it look??? As always, any input would be greatly appreciated and very helpful :lateral:
Chris..... My vote is for Matte/Gloss Black. Here is a Mustang we did with that combo. The black wheels make it even better.

So far the motor has definitely "worked out" :unibrow: No money has exchanged hands of yet but he sounds like he's gonna take it. Kinda weird, I've had two other emails this week asking if the car is still available from a couple guys i had spoken with previously. Guess we'll see what happens ;)

Dude, yes indeed. Listen to the voice of wisdom here. Todd knows what he's talking about when he makes that statment. Get the bugs worked out, put miles on the car at the track and on the road. I would def paint if after that---I can't believe the road rash my car has from 8 events and almost 7,000 miles on it in this past year alone.
I'd leave the paint scheme as is, but I am biased.

That was the original plan to leave the paint scheme as is. However, once we started getting into removing the chrome pieces and emblems we hit the "snowball" effect! One thing led to another and instead of doing it half assed now & going back later to do it all over again I just decided to do it right the first time and get it done now :unibrow: We have already completed the body work and the car is in primer, they will start blocking in the car next week and get it ready to shoot :D
Once it leaves paint prison it's game on!!! :unibrow:

Here are a few pictures of the motor, I'm speaking with Tom Argue (He did a lot of work on "Evade") about doing my DSE close out in carbon fiber and relocating the coils off of the valve covers. I think a little more carbon is needed to set off the motor compartment and moving the coils will definitely clean things up under the hood :unibrow: Also getting the car ready for the spring show in daytona this weekend :D
