That's beefy, Doug. I don't think the Chevelle will be a problem.

Yea, I wanted to be sure I ordered the right strength hand winches to lift the car. I don't want the cable to give while I'm under it....I ordered two with weight limit of 2000 lbs strength each.

Here is what it is suppose to look like when its done. This is a pic of Troy Trepaniers' (Rad Rides by Troy) rotisserie.

Wow Jake, thats a big'n also. Looks like you could do that school bus with that one. Hydraulic jacks are cool and I agree. Perhaps down the road I'll add them. For now, I'm trying to keep my cost down due to the fact this stuff keeps adding up. :willy:

Looks pretty stout, Doug. If it's good for Troy it's good for us.

those jacks are 30 or so bucks at harbor freight, not sure what your paying for the winch but it cannot be too much cheaper, check them out, i can give you measurements etc

I found that if you put the pieces that join the two ends of the rotisserie together on the outside rather than in the middle it gives you alot more room if height is an issue. Also jacks on both ends is a great feature that you will be glad you added.

Can you post a list of the parts to build one like that. I think that would work perfectly for me :D .

David

P.S. Here is ONE (http://myweb.cableone.net/jgrimmy/Rotisserie.htm) I found, but it does not appear to have a winch or jack.

I don't know why I did not think of Harbor Freight and we have one here in town. Previously, I check online with different providers and they were not as cheap as Harbor Freight. Many thanks and YES I'm going to use the hydraulic jacks now.

QUICK UPDATE : during my lunch hour I ran to harbor freight and was going to get two 3 ton hydraulic jacks for $39 each. To my surprise they had the 8 ton jacks on sale for the same price. :D Again, thanks for the tip Jake. :)

Jake, how did you build the pipe that turns on the vertical square tube? Specifically, my question is this, does the part that bolts to the car slide out of the round pipe or is it locked in it? This is hard to explain so let me know if you do not understand what I'm asking.

And how about a list of materials/lengths and measurements/etc.? Share man share!!

the part that attaches to the car has some 3.5 sch 40 pipe welded on to it about 11 inches long, the main upright that has the tube that slides up and down on it has a peice of 4 inch sch 40 pipe 9 inches long weldeed onto it, pipe is measured by the inside width, so the 3.5 inch is really around 3-3/4 to 3-7/8 outside(i can get exact measurement) so it fits damn near perfect into the 4 inch, just enough it turns nice.
the key is to have the peice that attaches to car be adjustable up and down as this will zero balance your car so it turns over very easy, all cars are real bottom heavy so you need to get that weight up near the pivot point, i am welding a manual adjuster on mine to adjust this as i used my engine crane to do it before.
also for jacks let me know your upright height so i can tell you tube used to go off top of jack then to adjustable height slider so that you can put it way up and down and not run out of jack doing it.
also yes the pipe does slide in, and is not locked in i have one 1/2 nut and bolt that locks it in place once car is in position. also it is very important that you center connecting bar peices fit very tight, or the end uprights will sag in big time, any little play will turn into big play at the ends.

looks great man, nice job, you may want to add 4 stabilzers to the outside legs so when sandblasting/working etc you can take the rock out of it, and make it stable, although mine is on rubber wheels it rocks some if you need pics just let me know

youmay find it scary to move the car in gravel or rough surfaces, mine is made to be towed up to 20 mph if i wer ein an industrial park with all the sub contractors close, however minus the little rock the thing moves almost with one hand anywhere in shop.

Thats pretty cool man looks like it ought to hold up a semi !!

Here is a pic of the one I built for my project. Just built it in a hurry out of stuff I had laying around so it didnt cost me anything but its not near as heavy as yours. If I ever use it again I am going to invest in some wheels..
