The guy that bought it at BJ TWO YEARS ago only put about 30 miles on it in that time.

The new owner will put on considerably more I'm sure.. lol

OK...Here it is in a nutshell...Bob Johnson had Alan Johnson build him the Cuda. Bob sold it at Barrett-Jackson a couple years ago. Doug Cooper happens to be Bob's friend and last years winner of the Riddler award with his 32 Ford B400 "Duecenberg" also built by Alan Johnson had his 50th birthday a few days ago. At big car events you will likely see Doug ,Bob and Alan together. They are joined at the hip. Doug's wife surprises Doug by stealing the phone # off his desk of the guy that bought Bob's Cuda at Barrett-Jackson and manages to buy it and surprises him with it for his 50th birthday without him or Alan or Bob knowing anything about it. She has managed to piss of Wives nationwide...

If you know it will be at a show and you're thinking of attending, just go. It's worth the time even if you only get 5 minutes with it. Flip through the build pictures too if the book is there. The metal work that was done is ridiculous. Great car and I'm so happy I got to see it while it was still local.

Doug, it may have you been you driving it at the time, but I remember a few years ago at Columbus Goodguys I heard something pretty mean sounding at the hotel next door and walked over just in time to see the end of the Battle Axe doing a nasty ass burnout in the back of the hotel parking lot - and then quickly parking - of course.

The turbo black 69 Camaro was "The Real" Bob Johnson..lol..He lives near Dallas Ga. His had an all aluminum BIG block with twin turbos..and an AUTOMATIC..rode him like a rented mule over that. He got the name The REAL when he showed up at SEMA several years ago with his body shop work shirt on that had his name on it..Bob Johnson..he had a seamstress sew The Real over his name..pretty damn funny..he sold his 69 to Gary Benedict from Massachuttes and sometimes Daytona Beach, Fla. haven't seen Gary in awhile so I don't know what happened to it. Everyone got the two cars mixed up.. because that imitating The Real copied my car, and even copied my name. lol.. i sent him a check for a commission on a car he helped me sell. His wife looked at it and couldn't believe that he had even immitated my damn signature. She said I could forge his check or vice versa..i have been asked if he's my son..I told them he came from BET Bob Johnson..That's the black guy that owns Black Entertainment Television..

That old saying 'its the thought that counts' at the end of the day, that's what really matters when gifts are given. Obviously a lot of thought went into your wife's gift Doug.

i could see my wife buying me a car. kinda like me buying her a gift for her Birthday or Christmas or blah blah blah..We both see something we want, we buy it..so everyday is a birthday, christmas or whatever. She doesn't want anything I pick out so I gave up years ago. She turned 62 on Feb 13. It was snowing outside but that didn't stop her from going shopping and buying herself a Cartier Ring and Cartier Bracelet that she had been eyeing. She was even more excited when she found out the bracelet had been made in the first year (1970) they made this style bracelet..1970 also happens to be my oldest daughter's birth year..someone asked me what my wife thought about me going back to Bonneville after the chute failure that made me crash and destroyed my car. She told me if I was going out there and kill myself, then to please get rid of all these cars and junk around here...She didn't want to have to deal with it after I was gone..lol..i sent Doug an email joke...I told Doug this reminded me of my wife and myself. A man is on his deathbed. just barely hanging onto life. He smelled something cooking and it was Chocolate Chip Cookies..His favorite thing in the world was his wife's homemade Chocolate Chip Cookies..He had a small burst of energy and crawled out of the bed and down the hall on all fours..He reached up on the table from the floor and tried to get a cookie. His wife hit him on the back of the hand with a spatula. She said git yo hands off dem...They's for the funeral..

Alan is about to get my 58 Caballero Wagon ready to drive..Got Evod making me a set of one offs for it..kinda mimicking a 59 Buick hub cap..should be pretty neat if it comes out like I envision..i bought Charlie Lilliards 32 3 window coupe at Barrett Jackson. The ol Camaro did sound pretty good. That's why I just can't get into a turbo motor for the street. i just gotta have a hot rod sound like a hot rod. Hard to get a turbo motor sounding anything like a nasty cammed up motor with some compression. Alan and I both are into the sound. That 69 that Alan built for Nathan Powell was at Columbus this past year and made the final 5 for SMOY. ALan couldn't make it and neither could Nathan so they wanted me to drive it..Now that was one more nasty sounding beast too. Everytime I would pull up to someone, you'd see them slink down in their seat. That Carbon on Carbon Tilton clutch set-up makes em rev like an air wrench.

he might not...I wouldn't let him drive it when I had it..his reputation precedes him..he's still bitching about that..i bought the Z06 mule car that GM used as a platform to build the Z06. I had him drive it out of the tent down to the truck that was loading it to my house. As soon as he got out to the street I heard it hit the rev limiter, then bang second, same thing. I could hear it over all the auction noise..he just can't control himself

I'm sorry --- I had to laugh --- that is funny right there!

Of course if it were mine -- He'd only do that ONCE... and then I'd shoot him!

Guys say - "well.... that's what they're made for"... YES --- I agree --- But if it's mine - I'll be happy to wing it to the redline... but I don't want someone else doing it UNLESS we've agreed that's what your going to do.

I would have to agree with you that was the baddest souding Camaro i have ever heard.

I got to RIDE in the Passenger seat plenty when Bob owned it...probably more miles than anyone...but I never got to drive it...I did ask, so same situation...except I don't know if Bob wants to ride shotgun with me behind the wheel...he doesn't like it in a rental car and I'll probably treat the Cuda just like a rental car [but with more HP...]

You left out the part why I was driving it in the first place...you can't fit in it with that tight cage...also this Z06 mule was run at Sebring for 24hours straight on kill...all I did was hustle it down to the truck! didn't want to miss anything... for the record it never was on the chip!!!!!!

Yes...Because it goes right past Alans shop in Alabama this year I want to see if I can hit a couple or a few stops...the dates are tough...NHRA Englistown which I attend most years, Indy Goodguys, and the Power Tour all conflict???

I already have a pair of tower suite passes for Englishtown! I wouldn't have any trouble finding a friend or two that wanted to go to the races...

all i can say is I'm thankful (as the rest of the world is) that Cooper's daughter got her mothers Genes..The twin boys got Cooper's unfortunately..One of them mooned us one time when they drove by and I can attest that he had so many wild hairs up his A$$ it was unreal..Both are out of control as you can get..wrecked more cars than I did at their age. If his daughter got his genes, she would be riding Brahma Bulls in the PBR instead of riding jumping horses with the La Te DAH..You think these cars are expensive, you don't even want to know what it takes to ride competitively..like they say, you don't want anything that eats and shi+$..

Have you spent much time behind the wheel of the B400, Doug? If so, how is it for a driver?

No not a lot... I've driven it in and out of shows this past year...from the hotel to the fairgrounds etc... in the rain at Columbus! we tried to keep it as slick underneath as possible...maybe some road time this year after I decide about a couple other indoor shows? it drives fine like any other 32 I have it's just quieter with less HP!

Do you have plans for another build anytime soon?

I have three 69 camaro bodies...one of them is in primer ready for paint it's mocked up with a brand newLS7 5 speed has the DSE hydroformed front sub frame mini tubs new floors bear brakes plus all the goodies... but I might not finish that car...pass it on to someone else whos looking for a 69 that's quite far along at a deal...30% LESS THAN IT TAKES TO GET ONE TO THIS STAGE!? anyone interested?

Then Ive got a handful of rust free 32s a perfect sedan body, a five window body, 2 three windows and a brookville three window body that's unassembled

we will see which way we go with the next build street machine or another street rod... I havent decided?

since it was brought up, Doug can you explain what is so special about the B400? I know it won Riddler and is an all around great looking car. However, I'm not a street rodder. Why were people so surprised that you chose to build that model car? Why is that model different or not used typically? Why did you name it what you did etc etc? I've just always wondered since rods aren't my knowledge base.

I named it..Alan and Doug had several BS names they were considering and I thought they all sucked..i names it after The Duesenberg..which were all coach built bodies on Duesenberg Chassis..the ultimate in 30's automobiles..Since this 32 was coach built(whole body was one off and built by hand) and it was a 32 Ford, also known as a Deuce, i just changed a letter or two and made it The Deucenberg..which sounded the same but was spelled a little different..In our eyes, it was the perfect name..

My first suggestion would be to visit HUB GARAGE .COM here's the link [http://www.hubgarage.com/] click on Home then search/type in Doug Cooper garage...look at the 500 build photos I posted of the 8000 pictures that exist. that will give you an appreciation for the mods/work that went into the build...and the level of detail.

Why a B400...I'm a 32 nut...the B400 is a sedan convertible only a little over 900 were built...really rare body style..and Alan improved Henrys design without hurting it's identity!

The Name "Deucenberg" this car is styled after the coach built cars of the 30's and a bunch of the features were derived from Duesenbergs!

Bob Johnson coined the name! it fits the car perfectly!

Not sure if to many people see it but he does have a style all his own. His SB2 32 is one of my top two cars of all time. If you could fly out about a thousand pounds of tools and a $10,000.00 flare machine and the keys to G-Force I just might plumb a car for you.

No turbos on those Lambos... if a turbo motor sounded good I'd pull the Hemi out of the cuda reduce the compression and twin turbo charge it...but turbo motors dont have the exhaust note needed...and the Cudas got a good amount of HP!

the SB2 Keith Dorton built for my XLR Bonneville car was as nasty sounding as anything you ever heard..especially since it was just 9 to 1..and only 357.5 inches..I'd love for Keith to build a big inch SB2 with about 14 to 1..I guarantee you it would kill the living and raise the friggen dead..that SB2 at over 9,000 RPM is one more howling wolf..

What did you think of the top 8 and ridler winner? Since you have experience having won last year.

The Ridler Winner and The Great Eight...there were six cars that I felt could have won the Ridler this year...the competition was that close...there was no clear cut winner the minute you laid eyes on it...there were two I didn't care for...but they deserved to be in the eight!

I was pulling for Ted Thomas of T&T and Tammy Ray... Ted has been in the great eight more than a half dozen times...once before with a car Tammy owned!
Ted is a friend and I have seen him come to Detroit year after year with a killer piece [three years ago w/Mr. Gasket Joe Hrudka's old 33 Willys] only to get beat...bad timing! This year they got it done!

Congratulations to Ted, Tammy and All Involved!!!!!!!!!!!!
