I ordered a kit of procomp aluminum heads and cam, and after installing it the engine runs and sounds great but is lighting the headers cherry red after just a few minutes. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I could do to help solve this. It is about 420 hp and is running on pump gas with a Edelbrock 600 cfm carb. I haven't put a timing light on it but it is pretty close turned it until it was starting real easy.

Check your idle mixture. Should have two idle mixture screws. Start at 2 turns out from seat on each and tune them to highest idle. Need to be the same for both screws. You can tweak it a little from there. Out is rich and in is lean.

Sounds maybe like timing is retarded? Check with a timing light.Should have 10-12 degree's initial and maybe 32-34 total . Then I would play with the carb to make things happy. Joe.
I'm with Joe, get a timing light on it before you do any tuning.

I didn't read very well evidentally. Timing is always first.
