T56 Mag. Shifter Location

Can anyone tell me if my T56 Magnum shifter is in the right location to mount it in a 69 camaro? It's in the middle position as shipped from Kiesler. I put a whole new floor in the car and have not cut the shifter hole yet. Here's a picture. Thanks

What do you mean by "middle position".. do you mean the small mid shift position? I should have came with the rear shifter in the car and that shifter clocked so that the shift lever will mount as far back as possible (like in the story)

Do you have a consol? If not then mount it like I did in the story and get the right HURST shift lever, this way ergonomics will be spot on.

Also, I cut a large hole in the trans tunnel a bit bigger than that shifter. That plate has a hole in it for the shift lever. This way, in case of emergency, I can remove the shifter without dropping the trans.

The Magnum shifter was about 2.5" farther forward than the normal T56. You will also have to "clearance" the trans tunnel with a BFH to make roome for the reverse lockout solenoid.

If you have a console then I believe both Keisler and Hurst make shifters with offsets to the the placement right.

Ahh.. just noticed your picture.

My shifter is rotated 180-degrees.. it seems that it would be WAY forward in the position shown in your picture.

The longer Hurst shifter seemed to put the shift knob in just the right spot. It also gives good leverage so the trans shifts REALLY easy. The short throw deal doesn't seem to feel as good.

I must have the shorter shifter it has Kiesler on the side of it. Good to know I have options and to hear the words shifts REAL easy.
I'm going to try and get it in there a.s.a.p.
Just in the process of getting the run out on the bell dialed in and the proper clearance for the T/O bearing to the clutch fingers. Took my measurement and it was 2.25inch so minus the 2.4 gives me a negative clearance so shims would only make it worse.
Waitng to here from Kiesler on the best way to get the 1/4 inch of clearance they call for. Im hopeing I can get a differant T/O bearing from them. If not I guess its a thinner flywheel. Time will tell.

Well I got it in there and all finished up. Cant wait to try it out. I did find the shorter hurst shifter and your right that does put it in the perfect spot.
