Like the title says,

Trying to find a crossmember for a T56 install gents.
I've searched quite a bit and what I've seen so far is most guys had theirs
cut and rewelded. I was hoping for an adjustable one like ATS offers, but
I was told it won't work in the A-bodies.

An adjustable one is preferred for some room to play for fitment.
IF anyone has one they don't need or can make one, regardless of how
pretty it is, I'm in the market for one. Shops around here in Chicago
charge too much for labor and I'd rather do this in my garage.
Thanks.

The link doesn't work.... ??

So far I've seen people custom fabbing theirs.
I don't have welding skills yet. hopefully rectifying that soon tho.

now it works.

I was told by another member that bowtie overdrives 700R4 crossmember works for
the TKO-600 in a 72 Chevelle, so it might work for the T-56 in a '70 442.

I have been looking around the web for all the info on these installs and some people are using the factory cross member. I have no idea if this is true or not as i have not done this yet, just looking into it. Here's some reading and a modified cross member. http://www.pro-touring.com/forum/showthread.php?t=63343

Even though they're heavy, I recommend buying or fabbing a G-Force style crossmember under an A-body... it allows you to tuck the exhaust up a lot higher than a stock or tubular style crossmember.

http://www.crossmembers.com/a-body.htm

Normally when you look at the side of an A-body with larger diameter exhaust you see the exhaust dipping down past the frame where it has to go under the transmission crossmember. This was always the lowest part on my Chevelle. With the G-Force style crossmembers you can have 3" exhaust tubing even with the bottom of the frame. Makes a huge difference in ground clearance especially with lowered cars.

As far as the moved mount location on the T-56... assuming you have a C-section (standard coupe) frame, just slide the crossmember back where it needs to be and drill 4 new holes in the frame.
